I agree the airframes are completely different and absolutely not comparable But IIRC the DCS Hornet IN RNG actually was appearing at around 6:30-6:00, just as in that video. I am now wondering I didn't notive the massive differece in RedKite's video when I first watched it or even when doing this myself. Probably because I didn't really pay attention to anyway since I fire at 2:30 which is what I learned to to before the changes were made to be efficient.

Just did a compare, they both match. Knowing that is vital since you might expect differences there when your mod enabler tells you both have the same file and it might cause problems. I just removed (aka appended .bak to it) it from the one shadermod folder which I load first so I don't get that nag anymore everytime I switch on my mods after an update or check-to-see-if-it-happens-without-as-well.

How to choose best TGP camera option for the job?
Eldur replied to Eldur's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
That's exactly my problem. The contrasts generated by the auto function are useless. Usually I slew my TGP onto something that might look like a target and then it changes, literally fading away all the contrast it had just before. But I never managed to get a decent setting manually either. And it all was daytime, somwhere around 1400-1600, clear skies. BTW Taking Screenshots works again after that session. Don't know what went wrong there. Still miss my Fraps though. And Dxtory doesn't work either. For other games I'm literally stuck with the Windows Game Bar at the moment unless they have an own screenshot function. -
I wouldn't even remotely call flat shadows and terrain object shadows off high settings, especially given the fact he's running a OG (what does that even mean, I understand that as 1st gen) Vive which pretty much has the same specs as a CV1 regarding how much it tanks the hardware. I get 45fps in the same scenario with low-high shadows (no difference at all), flat terrain object shadows and just running a very much dated 3570k and a 1080 nonti and it does not look like early 2000s lighting. Turning the shadows to flat only and terrain shadows to off makes it look much worse, but doesn't increase the performance at all, regardless of flying offline in a rather spartan map or online on an empty Through The Inferno hosting server, just with the difference the online experience is tanked by mostly just 15fps, sometimes even dropping to single digit, maxing out at 22 in less dense areas like offshore. It's so much definately an engine issue, especially WRT MP. I tried running my own training maps off of a dedicated server locally (different rig, 955, 8GB, 6950, console only) and joining that just to find out my render performance then goes down by at least half of the frames where I expected the server to take off some load of my client that wouldn't have to do the AI calcs and so on anymore. It's outright ridilulous. And no new hardware would ever fix that. Not even a 4090Ti.

Just want to push this as I had an idea that would be a great workaround for this issue as well as a great addition in general. I'd like to see a button mapping that needs to be pressed in order to show up the tooltips of the control that's being pointed at exactly for as long as that button is being held down. This would increase the immersion as the tooltips wouldn't show up everytime we hover our cursor (mouse or VR controller alike) over something, but only when we need it. Also it wouldn't make them disappear while we still are reading them which happens a lot if the descriptions are rather lengthy. On top of that, it would simply solve the problem stated above. It should be a key mappable to keyboard and controllers (HOTAS devices), as well as on button B of a VR controller by default (those should be remappable as well in general, but that's another step to be taken).

Thanks for the hint... could you tell which line number it is in Mustang's so I know what to take over?

Just noticed this as well today. I could clearly see that weird overlay like a skydome in the dark within the CV1 (gamma 2.2 as 1.6 makes DCS the Dark Cockpit Simulator at daytime). Also, pretty much the same, there was a black spot mostly around me on the water, but it went only so far and from that point on it was pretty much grayish. Screenshots attached. Be wary of pitch black. Crank gamma up to 11 to see it on a non-OLED and non-CRT monitor.

I tried some MP within the last few days. First off, the render performance is absolutely abysmal, even in rather empty maps. I wish DCS could improve here vastly as I remember this being an issue ever since, literally. I can get 45fps offline, dropping to 30ish in heavy situations, but I never see more than 22 ever in MP with the same settings, and it went down as far as single digit. Meh. But now to the actual topic. With the CV1 it's hard to see things and my eyes won't help that either which is why I fly with dot labels offline. Always. Now taking the things MP, I encountered something I can't explain myself. The server browser lists the settings of the server in the lower right corner. I've seen these: Labels: Dot only This results in just what it says, dot only labels. Fine Labels: None Self explanatory, they're off, most common setting for servers Labels: Dot only (local) This is where I thought I'd get them as well, but I didn't. They actually were off. Then I tried something, I switched my setting to Full and then it said Labels: Full (local), but still on the server, they're completely off. What's that setting actually? How does this work and how is it meant to work? Looks totally weird for me as it doesn't provide for what it sais...

Go on the Tube, look for BelGeode and his preview episode #2 video on that other recently released sim called "Poor Man's VR". Didn't work for me in regards of performance though, but that thing was a horrible stutterfest anyway when I tried that. Technically however, it worked. Basically you'd use OpenTrack to track you VR HMD movements and translate that into TrackIR "emulation" and run VirtualDesktop in VR with the virtual screen wrapped around your front hemisphere.

Noticed something similar today with my CV1. Having to live with like 20-22 fps even with the shader mods (kegetys IC compliant by s-o-h, mustang shader mod, mustang flat shadow removal - I do miss the days where I had 45+ without those mods even in the Quest which has 88% more pixels which is totally unusable in DCS right now!), seeing it actually run butter smooth on the mirror after tabbing out while blocking the sensor in the headset to prevent it from going off. Clearly an issue that needs to be fixed ASAP. Can't use fpsVR on the Rift though as I don't run DCS though SteamVR. But it is extremely obvious, night and day difference here.

They both have the FireVehicle.lua file though...
-
That's the point. You won't really notice it that much in VR anyway, but on a screen it would obstruct quite a bit of the HUD image I'd guess. What bothers me now though, but that's clearly ED's fault there, is that I always see that friggen tooltip for the switchology, which is bad enough in other modules already. They really have to get that straight. Yesterday! I just wish they'd read the VR subforums... it's like a No Fly Zone for them as it seems. Bummer...

The contrasts are literally non-existant. I took some screenshot, well, I tried to. Apparently DCS isn't able to take them anymore on PrtScrn. And since Windows 10 simply sucks, none of my other tools I used to use are able to take screenshots anymore either, they just return a completely black image. So I can't provide those and this is not in bug reports. But it's least to say I can't make out anything really on the TGP in IR BHOT or WHOT modes, it's even better in plain TV mode.

Wait, what? Literally wondering the same. Does he know more than we do?

What a great step! Highly appreciated

I'd take a Starfighter from these guys any day Please sign a contract with ED before some other team with a lot on their plate already does
-
Is it merged already? BTW it would still be great to be able to decide whether to have this or not, but I wouldn't mind if it comes with the same package.

BAE Systems entered the chat and have . Then the DSMS for the A-10 is clearly wrong or, which is more likely, it is possible to put a different store type to the inventory on the DTS which makes sense if you might also carry unguided rockets at the same time so the DSMS doesn't pack them together. But it's not mandatory for the system to work at all.

That's the best joke I've heard in a while... I guess the 3080 would be jump from my 1080 nonti though. But first I've to replace all the rest which is 9 years old by when I'll be able to do that.

I'd love to slew the TGP with the HMCS and see that image overlay while doing so...
-
Guess that covers it all. Let's see what we can make out of this Make sure to bring enough fuel and don't fly with the throttles firewalled
-
I guess you can just go to your Saved Games\DCS folder and copy the input files from the legacy to the new one, but that might need a check if everything works correctly afterwards. As this is a new plane, it will have a separate input mapping for sure.

I totally don't know why... Wait a minute, they're LOAL? Holy Belly of the Cake Princess, that's gonna be very delightful! DCS DM in a nutshell Guess you hit the head right on the nail there
