Well, just tried some quick missions as I wanted to check out the HUD rendering. Still hardly visible in 50793, but I had to discover I'll just run off of 45fps when being literally alone with just static units at max. In the quick missions there are some others going about and I'm instantly down in the low 20s again. Not exactly what I'd call performance. This has to be bumped up considerably...

I'd very much prefer to keep the current model, but I understand the idea behind this - to generate income for the core features. A voluntarily subscription that does gather some ED miles wouldn't be too bad actually. Another thing I thought of was rather simple: Make it possible to donate to the project. That way, everyone could add to the thing to their likings and possibilites their wallets grant, without having the need to do so to keep going on.

It is pathetic actually. It looks great as a effect (it always has in this engine), but is way overdone. I've just taken off from Senaki to the east and turned northwards on a DCS standard CAVOK day: In the Rift, I could barely see the village/town to the right even with Gamma turned down to 1.0 (was running 2.8 for ages since 2.5 dropped), the horizon didn't exist at all, it's just barely visible here on the shot. Later, when having gained some altitude, it became even more washed out I couldn't see the rivers and other landscape features at all and was just barely able to make out the horizon, but not discerning actual mountains there. When I flew home, I was barely able to navigate back, mainly because I could make out the coast eventually and follow that. But until getting there, at 15kft everything looked totally washed out and from time to time I thought I wasn't flying level anymore, having real issues keeping the thing straight as there just was no horizon at all. Now just as a comparison, I found a photo shot from Lanchkhuti which is just south of Senaki, in northern direction. Just see how clearly we can see the Caucasus here, with the Elbrus being ~140km away: You'd get very much a similar picture from Munich looking south to the Alps which are ~100km away as well: https://www.google.com/search?q=münchen+alpen A sight like this is absolutely impossible in DCS, and the sky isn't even clear: And the last few updates made the already existing issue a lot worse to begin with. Haze after all, as far as I understand is the actual atmosphere, yes. But the main factor here is humidity. We can't change that (yet), and it's clear that better visibility should be possible in the Caucasus even. Now start to think of the NTTR or PG deserts, where it's literally always dry as f*. Same haze in DCS... max visibility <10nm. Definately not quite right IMHO. And, worst of all, it's absolutely impossible to see a HUD against it.

Went to 5 on the first run... and I guess I have a new track for the walkman now

You don't really have OCD unless you call it CDO But "F14" triggers it a lot. Also, have you been taking a seat in the RIO pit yet wanting to push down that broken bit of glare shield coating just in front of you?

You could try disabling the Guardian altogether. Need to enable dev mode for that though.

The biggest gripe I have is that we have thick fog even if none is set which probably is supposed to be haze. Weird enough, when taking screenshots and looking at those afterwards, it isn't nearly as bad on those. When I'm up at 10kft or more, I practically can't see anything down there except for the fact that there is some landscape, but ever so blurred. I can hardly make out the horizon at all having an extreme hard time staying level even if there's no HUD. But again, I always make screenshots and it looks a thousand times better on those... so I can't show examples.

I'm so glad we have this "feature". I could spread so much hate on other sim devs for not having it. Nothing sucks more than being kicked out of the sim by inadvertendly pressing that friggen Windows key ever so often, just to discover your stick's gone limp again after alt-tabbing back in, leaving you to having to restart the whole sim again. Thank you ED!

Can't there be any thread without the friggin' subscription model off topic? Nobody wants to have that anyway... Just noticed that the latest build indeed is _AFU_. I was reporting it was the worst ever, later I revised to tell I still got my 45fps on Caucasus. Well, that is. But I just have 7 fps on the Channel... this is ridiculous.

I have yet to see a WWII sim where the gunners aren't cheating with radars... I guess I won't see this anymore in my lifetime.

PSA: Check your Aux tank fuel load if plane is super unstable
Eldur replied to Voyager's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
What exactly is PSA? Pretty sure it's not Peugeot Société Anonyme in this context... and I see it every now and then, still wondering. I never had any fuel in the aux to begin with BTW since I don't take more than half in the DCS maps. And I still giggle at that autocorrection there... -
I wasn't even aware of DCS having that feature at all... back in the day in that other sim, it's been used heavily. But I also remember skip bombing ships without since the bombs lost their effectiveness with a delay there. Doing it right had to be mastered though...

Are you using FFB by chance? Elevator trim with that is absolutely minimal, and this is an overstatement to say the least...

If you don't have issues with modifying your input luas, you can try inserting these: -- COCKPIT VIEW FOV / ZOOM PRESETS {combos = {{key = 'Delete'}}, down = iCommandViewZoomAbs , value_down = -0.833333, name = _('Cockpit FOV 30'), category = _('View Cockpit FOV')}, {combos = {{key = 'End'}}, down = iCommandViewZoomAbs , value_down = -0.333333, name = _('Cockpit FOV 60'), category = _('View Cockpit FOV')}, {combos = {{key = 'PageDown'}}, down = iCommandViewZoomAbs , value_down = 0.166666, name = _('Cockpit FOV 90'), category = _('View Cockpit FOV')}, Those luas are at DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\[module]\Input\[module]\keyboard or \joystick respectively. Just add the lines somewhere in between the blocks. I usually put them right after the default zoom key lines. With these keybinds, you'd get 30°, 60° and 90° FOV instantly on a button press. This is for the default 20-140° FOV range. The number values range from -1 to 1, where -1 is the most zoomed in (20°) and 1 the most zoomed out (140°). So you got to calculate the values needed if the module has other limits. I had the formula for that somewhere (pretty sure I posted it as well), but I fail to find it again and since I run DCS in VR now, I don't need that anymore... In the second thread below I've also put the values for the Tomcat. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3435168&postcount=34 https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3891760&postcount=6 Best way to have those modified luas is to make an JSGME or OvGME mod that's always to be removed when updating and put back in afterwards. If changes are being made to those files by the devs, take the new ones and put the own blocks in there again.

I almost got the impression that I can look farther in minecraft than I can do in DCS even at high settings since minecraft doesn't have that thick fog... Disabling Tacview almost doubled my framerate, just a hint... And for some reason, the Edge mod does hit a lot which is why I experienced utterly subpar performance on 50793 in the first place. Switching to another plane made me have about the same performance as the versions before, dating back to the SC release. The main difference was that that version did run well with Tacview while the newer ones don't. BTW always been running DCS without any AA modes, and always PD 1.0 except for trying out more than that once to see if it improves the Viper HUD which was not worth the performance drop at all.

DCS: Flying Shopping Cart confirmed!

You should put this on June 24, when Top Gun 2 was about to air before the Bog Roll Apocalypse happened.

Sorry to say that but this statement is absolute bollocks. I can even differentiate a conning (for the flat earthers: putting chemtrails) airliner with two engines from another that has 4, at angles of 25-30° above horizon. Those are 20+km away (easy sin maths here) which is more than 10 miles. And my eyes totally suck (I can't even read a car plate from more than 10m), yet I still can do that. Although I have to admit I'm having extra issues actually spotting things thanks to the loss of peripheral vision. That hurts... I wish I had half of that though. DCS: Multiplayer has always been a powerpoint for me...

All the talk about a new map being VR optimized not yet when the whole sim isn't even Well, I look forward to the new map as I've been waiting for that one for a while now and it's been utterly silent lately - glad to have some news finally. Then we just need some planes like the Phantom and Flogger and it's gonna be awesome! And PG isn't just sand rock... it's Dune. He who controls the Spice... I still wonder though why the newsletter has that part about the Harrier... it's neither new nor is it going to be completed / out of Early Access anytime soon

Didn't think of that TBH even though the A-4E-C just recently caused problems with the AN-M65 on the Jug as well Got the Grinnelli F-22 (which I just was about to try out as well as the Su-57) in there and the MB339 as well. Coming to think of it, I'd be under the impression the Grinnelli F-22 would be compatible with the Edge 540 after all since Grinnelli is part of the team... or is that someone else with the same name? Actually I wonder why these problems do happen... I remember the MB339 initially replacing some gear sounds which had an effect on the Hornet and others since those files were in the general Sound folder structure... but with these now everything is in their own subfolders and yet they still interfere each other. Edit: Did a quick check. Switching off the F-22 in the module manager fixed it. MB339 apparently doesn't cause problems, at least none that would come right at your face.

Well, philstyle actually pointed this out in his preview video. The area where the Dungeness NPP is at is modelled as industrial area whereas back in the 40s, it was mainly just plain landscape... http://www.oldtowns.co.uk/MapShop-Kent-by-sheet/86-NE-1940.htm

I've never seen in my life such detail in a flight simulator map
Eldur replied to Simon1279's topic in DCS: The Channel
Took a Huey to see some things close up and was blown away as well. Sitting next to the Chain Home towers or hovering next to those is an experience. Didn't dare to land on those yet though... The landscape is just beautiful and it's pure fun to just fly around there. Only thing that was weird was my chopper being on the hangar roof... wanted to spawn in one of those at Hawkinge, had to select take off from ground cold and move the thing to the hangar spot just to discover I'll be on that thing then. Well, at least I was able to hover taxi in there after landing. Not that this is being an issue with the map in particular. Had found myself on top of the hangars in PG as well after doing a repair in there.
