After the first hour or two it starts to get fun. If you fly it under MTWO its also a lot better fun.

New Thrustmaster Stick and Throttle Unveiled
shu77 replied to KLaFaille's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Can I ask where your issue with the Warthog throttle is? I admit the switches dont reflect whats nearby on the Hornet, but they are close enough to be useful, I splurged on a custom TEK creations face plate and its been great since then, and while there are some differences between the throttle hat configs, you can achieve all the same functionality with minimal change of behaviour in your finger positions. Unless you are flying an actual hornet sim I would suggest based on my 25 hours or so in the hornet with it the Warthog gets you close enough to not lose anything in the experience. -
Query whether my computer specs are ok for DCS
shu77 replied to mart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
dumb question, have you tried installing DCSWorld and jumping into MP with the TF-51 or SU-25, you dont need to be able to deploy, just to be able to get airborne and report back. -
Can I ask what you were flying what res and could you read the MFD's?

New Thrustmaster Stick and Throttle Unveiled
shu77 replied to KLaFaille's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Been trying to decide if the 'first officer' add ons are worth while for sim pittling, the Park Break/Landing gear knobs would be useful for Hornet and a bunch of other sims, I havent decided what to use the 2 extra axis for with Hornet though. -
Making DCS more accessible to new players.
shu77 replied to Vertigo72's topic in New User Briefing Room
Disclaimer, Im not a fan of campaigns and I dont do a lot of missions, but When I started Warthog in 2011 I found it hard, for the first time in 15 years I had to study I got a notebook and wrote notes from Wags missions because that was about all there was in the day and from the manual. It was hard and frustrating and I started to feel like I was working then I realised that actually flying a Warthog at CAT C is work for someone somewhere and then it started to click. When I needed to do my ITIL and PRINCE2 certifications in 2012 and some other post grad work the experience i got getting back into a study mindset from DCS really helped me. So learning DCS I agree is its own reward. What I think is missing from DCS is any sort of 'Game' Its a sandbox, where you make your own fun, really more or less like minecraft. What its missing is the kind of scripted GUI mission that something like Gunship 2000 or Strike commander or Red Baron had. I get its not that kind of game, but I honestly think thats the big difference. Its hard to get into DCS, a lot of info is hidden in forums. It took me ages to figure out how to get into Open Beta because its not in the manual or the forum, I think GR actually helped me find the actual dos command to type, I mean in 2020 Seriously WTF? Theres no diagrams for half the airfields. As a Pilot when I go flying I know where my aircraft is, I drive there, I chat in the Hangar, I know which way the wind is going and I see the other traffic. In DCS I start in a spot Ive never been before, theres no ATIS, no friendly traffic or assets apart from what the mission might have. Half the time I cant find a diagram for the field Im on let alone find where I am on the field short of F-10, I cant easily figure the wind direction. I cant do a walk around, or have a meaningful dialogue with the ATC. I have to waste time clicking menus because in 2020 I cant use a decent GUI for radio comms. ED is wasting time replicating SRS when they should be implementing voice comms or atleast intelligent comms. Its these kind of things that kill the experience for me. Dont get me wrong I will keep flying and I have a great time on line, but thats more about the experience of flying with people that have a similar passion and learning from them than it is about DCS itself. Other sims have a campaign, or civil traffic or in the old days a story, a squadron that was transferred around the battlefield enemy aces and news clippings. This wont appeal to lots of people I know purists who like to fly will fly, but for me, if you want to attract new players you need to ask what is the story? I have been watching a lot of DCS on youtube. The best videos are honestly Iain Christies . A lot are tutorials and have a place, just like ironhand once did I use Redkite, Wags, Spudknocker and even GR to learn things. GR's videos are fun, but its like watching a video of your mates. What I want to do more and more is play a sim based on hanging out in Iains world not in an empty sandbox where I dont know where my airframe is or what its doing. -
Marianas WWII Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields
shu77 replied to saburo_cz's topic in DCS: Marianas
They do look fun, I hope we get a number to play with. -
I've been playing with this for a few weeks and unfortunately the way the map renders now its not easy to convert the mission editor images to diagrams as I once did. The map now shows the airfield markings and bits of text so I started to try and prepare one of these but found its a significantly longer process than it once was. Its really disappointing as it lets the map down not to have diagrams of the fields.

I was reading a thread about the inclusion of NAS fallon in NTTR and how ED will not be adding it https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=226353&page=7 It got me to thinking has anyone made an airfield mod? at a simple level a runway object would be a fairly low poly object very similar in nature to a FARP. It wouldnt obviously have radio comms, but I was thinking at a it would be an interesting project so I was wondering if anyone has seen it done? a quick thread search didnt return anything, so wondering if anyone has thought abou tthis or the limitations etc.

Is this a modification of an existing aircraft or a proper stand alone module?

Triple screens, LCD's for MFD's and 2 GPU's
shu77 replied to jaccovdzaag's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Resolution would need to be 7808x1440 based on your description above, but DCS doesnt really support 2 GPU so I think your issue may be to do with the output on the second GPU. -
I've been trying to teach myself about modding and so Maybe a question for the textures/liveries thread, I had a go at the texture the other day because I want to understand how the bits fit together. The issue is that the texture files not been mapped in the 3d editor as I understand so it repeats over the model rather than each part of the file mapping to an area. My understanding is that to fix that you need to UV unwrap the file and then anchor that back onto the model so theres a reference point for each area of the 3d skin on the texture fileI dont quite get that last part but understand you need the unwrapped model to bones to identify how the texture lays out. I also had a go playing around with the liveries, just to see if I could turn it blue etc with a copy of the original file block filled another colour, but I think theirs something unmapped in the config there as I could get the livery to load in model editor but not to apply to the model, I tried a few things like rationalising the naming on the folders, editing the liveries path in entry.lua but something else I couldn't see or find a reference to was stopping the model from grabbing the liveries. From what Nibblys said he has a guy working on it, so I think its just a case of waiting, but if anyone knows of a good tutorial on how textures and liveries interact with objects, rather than just how they are painted I am currently trying to find something to explain how the lower level bits interact
-
honestly this is poorly realised I wish they'd focus on this over re-implementing SRS
-
OK you are living the dream!!
-
I just export the 3 screens to a second 22" screen my understanding is the 3 screens dont add more than a single in terms of fps drop
-
1/100 events rarely help I like the handle to tighten with a tist thread to fine tune, makes it look a lot more practical to convert back.
-
yeah this is ratty cool
-
Yeah 17days no update on shipping. would accept it if i hadnt paid so much for the device and shipping....
-
If I was running sabre or mustang I might do that, theirs noting better than seeing the actual screen you are working on pop up under your fingers as you type and see it reacts.

Nah guns is aft per the default/ actual. there is no WSS Left in the plane which makes it a good choice. Ah OK Chuck inverts his layouts, if you look at the actual hornet throttle youll find WSS left is not used and apparently if you have a hornet stick its almost impossible to use. if you look at the actual layout wSS is off the right pinky not where chuck says.
-
OK sounds like maybe you have an axis conflict start by picking a plane. assign a throttle axis, make sure no nothing else has the throttle axis assigned, use clear if you need to, report back, send screenshots.

I agree TRACKIR is amazing. get a sheet to hang over the mirror, there is noting better than trackIR for flying than full VR.
