The server spam setting has been useful in getting rid of the problem for a lot of users. I'm hoping that TARS on the new API version will help with that particular issue.

In other news, my goal is to have a generic frequency set that the combined arms JTAC and people who want to act as ATC will be able to use. Part of the latest development effort has been focused on getting that ready.

I was hoping to have something to release this weekend, but unfortunately the wait continues--merging all of the modules together (A-10/KA-50) is requiring additional work, since people will likely want to switch during a game and TARS has to handle that seamlessly. Lua and Plugin code changes need to be made to accomodate this. The POV hat issue is resolved along with the API upgrade to the latest TS3 API.

Looking forward to the Combined Arms integration. I contributed $16 to the cause =)

Headspace- any chance you could comment on how you are working TARS into CA? When you say "generic frequency set" do you mean that you plan to have anyone who joins as JTAC to transmit on a set frequency that is set with TARS prior to game entry? Will a player be able to transmit on multiple freqs (say for example they wanted to play AWACS and air traffic etc).

Many thanks.

I'm planning on having frequencies configurable in the TARS control panel for vehicles or airplanes that don't have configurable radios in the game.

Since TARS, configurable radios are a must have for each player-controllable vehicle. It would be (once more) a punch for the MP-community by ED (or whatever 3rd-party developer) not to take this into account.

Guys like Headspace push the sim forward and the developers push it back...??

You are aware that this claim makes you sound like

? :)

On the one hand, we got people tearing ED a new one for postponing the release, on the other hand people keep coming with wishes for new features.

Do you see the irony?

As I never complained about postponed releases, I see NO irony on my end. :p

What I meant to say in the first line is, that working radios shouldn't be something to ask for. In my eyes it should be a self-evident feature on the list for each product. At least since TARS came around.

As far as my understanding goes, it could be simply "moved" from one product to the next, as radios are quite similar all around the world. All that needs to be done would be the few switches and stuff, but on the functionality side, no one would need to reinvent the wheel. Feel free to correct me, as I'm no programmer!!

And please stop "whining" each time critics or suggestions come up. Been away for about half a year, but some things just never change... ;)

Well, if there's a radio to hook in via the export environment you can do it in the "traditional" way (I'll probably have some sort of API to do it when the third party aircrafts become more prevalent). Alternatively you can just assume there's a radio (in the code) and act accordingly. What's taking the longest right now is moving TARS into a state where it doesn't necessarily assume an aircraft and can switch between aircraft/vehicles in a single execution cycle.

Laud was asking for configurable radios for ground units, i.e. having an interface to tune radios. That is not an existing feature.

It certainly would be cool to have long term, but I think headspace's interim solution sounds great.

Headspace- will a ground unit have one single radio or multiple? If just one, what frequency band will it be?

Cheers

Indeed, the only limiting factor will be, that CA units will be pinned down to just one frequency. ... and Headspaces extra-work. ;)

Keep up the good work head case. Looks like DCS World will be a great challenge for TARS. I know you'll do great things as usual.

TARS should be back in August. TS3 is throwing somewhat of a curveball now on top of everything else. I don't want to do anything major without assuring compatibility with CA and other driveable/flyable stuff.
