These manuals provides the necessary procedures to efficiently and effectively learn the necessary skills to be successful in DCS. Fundamentals as well as Fighter Fundamentals and Section Maneuvers Basics The Logbook & Training guide is designed to give a guide for all the different subjects and skills a pilot needs to know and understand to be successful in DCS. The Basic Flight Manual goes over all the fundamental skills and base knowledge pilots in DCS need to know and understand to succeed and enjoy DCS to its fullest extent. This guide provides the foundation for all follow-on flying training. The Fighter Fundamentals Guide contains fundamental procedures and techniques to learn the basic fundamental tactical concepts and skills to be able to succeed in DCS World. It is designed to be used in conjunction with instruction from an experienced and knowledgeable Instructor Pilot. The manual can help build a solid foundation on which tactical training can be accomplished. This volume is not directive in nature and is not the final authority for all things in combat aviation. It is merely a single collection of the fundamental and basic tactical concepts that are universal to US Navy, USAF, RAF, and other fundamental training programs. Fighters rarely employ as a single aircraft. Fighters will typically employ in section, division and as a part of a larger Strike package or Defensive Counter Air package containing multiple elements. Fighters throughout history have proven the benefits of having a Wingman in combat. Two aircraft, working together, are more powerful and capable than one, whether their mission is Forward Air Control (Airborne) or a Fighter Sweep. The fighter’s in section or division work together to achieve and maintain tactical situational awareness and to achieve air superiority. The Section Maneuvering Fundamentals manual will discuss planning and employment considerations for two aircraft in the air-to-air environment. How a section employs in a known 2v2 scenario is not different from how the same section will employ in a multi-group environment in 2vX. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3328191/ All missions take place in various regions of the Caucasus map. A series of quick missions (Most take 3-10 minutes though 'Advanced' and 'Expert' missions may take longer), designed to help Viper pilots practice their systems workflow, refine their key binds and HOTAS controls, axis curves, and employment proficiency with a variety of both air-to-air and air-to-ground weapon systems, Air-to-Air refueling, as well as some more advanced scenario based training, that will test your flying abilities while expanding your Viper skills. These are designed to be quick and hassle-free ways to practice selecting the weapon systems, picking your modes, options, ripple patterns, etc. in order to ingrain good muscle memory and habits so it becomes second nature when flying real missions. If a mission has a live threat present, it will always be noted in the mission briefing. Missions are broken down into 5 categories for easy navigation: - 'Fun' - Just that. Fun scenarios, doing silly things, to just enjoy flying the Viper. No stress. No threats. - '.Basic': Essential skills for new pilots. Landing, formation flying, spotting, etc. - 'Weapons' - Threat free environments to practice weapons employment. The bedrock that this mission pack is built on. - 'Advanced' - Scenario-based training. Live threats may be present. Read all mission briefs in full. - 'Expert': - High level scenario-based missions. May contain multiple types of live threats and/or difficult flying conditions. Limited use of F10 and labels. Read mission briefs thoroughly. These are not tutorials. I include some helpful tips here and there, but there are no step by step directions telling you how to select and employ the systems required. These are practice missions. A basic understanding of the jet is required. (Though they could be useful if you're following along with Tutorial videos or checklists.) There is a briefing accompanying each mission letting you know your airspeed, altitude, situation and overall objective. The F10 map, Labels and Active Pause are available in all missions, except for Expert level scenarios. NOTE: If you have any version older than v.3.2 it is strongly recommended that you delete all old missions and download the latest version. Numerous missions will not function properly due to patch updates. ** MOST RECENT UPDATE **: v3.5 - May 11th, 2025 *Changelog:* - Reworked target locations in the 'GMT SEA Radar Mode' mission. Targets before were way too far apart and the mission took far too long. Targets are now much closer together to make rapid practice easier and less time consuming. - Moved starting locations for most Wild Weasel missions closer to the SAM batteries. The ingress was too much of a time sink and now allows you to get more in more practice runs in far less time. - Moved 'ILS Landing' from the 'Advanced' category to 'Expert'. This is an extremely challenging mission and will absolutely test your ILS landing skills. Includes the following Categories & Missions: Fun: - Airshow Demonstration - Marianas Tanker Shoot - Carrier Landings Weapon systems: - AIM-9M Sidewinder - AIM-9X Sidewinder High Off Bore shots - AIM-120C RWS Mode - AIM-120C TWS Mode - CBU-87 - CBU-97 - CBU-103 - CBU-105 - GBU 10 & 12 (Single mission for both.) - GBU 24 - HARM - HARM with Datalink - IR Mavericks - TV Mavericks - JDAM - JSOW - Mk 82 & Mk 84 unguided bombs (single mission for both) - Mk 82 Snakeyes - Air to ground guns & Unguided rockets (single mission for both) - Air to Air Guns - Maverick Boresight Practice Basic Skills: - Air to Air Refueling - Cold Start & Takeoff - Cold Start & Takeoff at Night - Air to Air Refueling (Easy comms, no external tanks) - Visual landing: low light & fog - Visual landing: clear night - Visual landing: clear day - Visual landing: rain and light wind - Instrument Landing System (ILS) Practice - Ground Moving Target radar - SEA Mode - Beginner Formation Flying - Spotting Practice: Air to Air - Mark Points/GMT Radar Employment - TNDL Datalink Advanced Skills: (All BFM Scenarios have a randomly selected enemy jet with a random skill level.)- Air to Air Refueling (No easy comms/Tacan required, external tanks) - Air to Air Refueling - Night (Easy comms, labels on) - BFM - Neutral - Fox 2s. - BFM - Neutral - Guns Only. - BFM - Defensive - Fox 2s. - BFM - Defensive - Guns Only. - BFM - Defensive - 2v1 Guns Only. - BFM - Defensive - 2v1 Fox 2s. - BFM - Offensive - 2v1 Guns Only. - BFM - Offensive - 2v1 Fox 2s. - BVR with AWACS - BVR without AWACS - DTOS Mode w/ CBUs (No Threats) - DTOS Mode w/ CBUs (AAA & Manpads present) - CCRP Low level toss bombing attack - Bad weather low altitude Maverick employment - Low level CCRP Strike w/ high-drag bombs (Mk. 84 or Snakeyes; your choice) - Wild Weasel: SA-2 - Wild Weasel: SA-10 - Wild Weasel: SA-3 - Wild Weasel: SA-6 - Wild Weasel: SA-11 - Wild Weasel: SA-8 - Wild Weasel: SA-15 - Wild Weasel: SA-5 - Wild Weasel: AAA & MANPADS - Sustained Formation Flight - Sustained Night Formation Flight - Flameout Landing Approach - Fight the Phoenix Expert Level Scenarios: - 'Two Dogs' Refuel - 500lbs of fuel remain. Get your head on a swivel. - (2 Player Possible)Go for the Head - Take out critical communication bunkers before enemy CAP arrives. - (2 Player Possible)Gecko Hunt - This mission has received a massive overhaul (as of 7/9/23) in order to increase replayability and now has five possible scenarios that go off a random trigger at mission start, all still involving hunting moving SA8s. Some scenarios involve MANPADS and enemy helicopter threats. Now has three available client aircraft armed with either IR Mavs, TV Mavs, or GBU-12s. - (2 Player Possible)On The Run - Search and Destroy on enemy HVT fleeing via speedboat. (Tanking required) - Fox 3 & Fox 1 Unknown Adversary - Fox 2 Unknown Adversary - Air to Air Refueling - Blackout - Dusk & Night Wild Weasel - ILS Landing Approach - Dense Fog (Huge thank you to Mulder76 for creating this one!) To install: Unzip folder and extract the Folder titled 'Viper Proficiency v2.X. Copy and paste to: Users -> *Your username folder* -> Saved Games -> DCS.openbeta (Or DCS if you're running stable version)-> Missions Then go to the 'Missions' tab on the main menu of DCS and at the top should be the folder containing all missions. When not caged, my understanding is that the dial should move to reflect the range to a target based on radar returns. I've messed around with this for an hour and have yet to see the dial move off of 1800'. When I cage it, it goes right to 600', but right back to 1800' when uncaged again, regardless of how far away the target is.

Hi there, my question is kinda self-explanatory. I am a bit out of the loop regarding the F-16 flight model improvements. I believe there were *some* adjustments made in the second half of 2021, though I do not remember how significant those were. So, are more changes to the FM to be expected in 2022 or does ED consider the work on the F-16's FM to be fully complete by now? I am asking because I was surprised of how easily every single modern jet manages to get on my 6 in both 1 and 2 circle dogfights. I know the Viper is considered to be a great ratefighter (2C) and I *think* I am doing everything right, especially maintaining my speed, around 420-440kn in a sustained turn, yet I get killed over and over. I am by no means the best dogfighter, but frankly, neither are my friends, yet I always end up on the losing side whenever they get inside something different than an F-16. This is why I decided to ask here, hoping that someone more experienced would clear things up, as well as getting some info on the state of the Viper's flight model accuracy. Any feedback is appreciated!

Hello ED, Please take a look at the attached tracks. ACE F16 vs ACE F/A18, Guns Only - Nevada. Both planes deploys speed brakes and "merges" at crawl speed. The F/A-18 doing 170ish knots, stalls and landsharks around, while the F-16 is no better. It also deploys brakes almost directly, ignores the excellent gun shot at merge opportunity, comes around behind the F/A18 and almost collides with it instead of shooting the cannon. This is repeatable time after time. I can see so many incorrect things I don't know where to begin. In the last track (crazy again) the F-16 just "merge" and stalls/crash into the ground. Not sure what's broken but something needs fixing. Thanks for taking a look at this. Please make the AI great. M2000 ACE vs Me Stops flying and fighting and crash into the ground. Not using any mods. Hi all, apologies if this has already been discussed. I happened across a YouTube video by @Growling Sidewinder yesterday who was demonstrating and discussing the F16's rate turn performance when compared to the F18 and F14. The general conclusion of the video is that the F16 is underperforming in a 2 circle rate fight when compared to the F14 and F18 (or obviously the later 2 aircraft are overperforming) I can see how the F18 and F14 could/should outperform the Viper in terms of radius turns but not in a rate turn. Has anyone carried out a controlled test using something like Tacview? GS's video is here:

I believe AI doing really wrong even worst than before in some certain setups! I setup multiple run with F-5 against MiG-29A, in all sorties the Fulcrum either crashed to the ground! or running away(he seem tired to pull Gs!) or I could stay comfortably in his 6! just to be clear, the AI set to ACE, there were not any AWACS available, only two planes and I was doing really bad! and here is tacviews 04_Tacview.zip.acmi 03_Tacview.zip.acmi 02_Tacview.zip.acmi 01_Tacview.zip.acmi

Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read the entire post. I am interested of having one on one training for BVR and BFM even if this training is provided with payment. Fortunately/Unfortunately I cannot commit every day to DCS, but rather once or twice per week. That been said, the time I commit on DCS is very valuable for me, meaning, I need to use every minute of my flying time to learn/absorb something. So far, I joined two squadrons and the way of learning is sort of "just jump in the sea and start swimming. At some point, you will learn how to swim" I know this is one of the best ways to learn, but it does not work on all cases (at least not in my case). It's not easy to join a BVR PVP session with advance pilots and all you do for two hours in try to just follow up and understand what is happening. I understand most you learned that way. My profile: Been flying about a year++ in DCS ( ~100 hours) Age:37 I am aware of the basic principles like: - Mar - Notch/Gimbal - 1 circle vs 2 circle - speed is energy - exchange energy for turning Essentially, I am looking for someone to transfer my theory into practice and start learning and evolving.
