Pyroflash Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 "you take a look, is beautiful" min 6:20. Is the best this man can say about the F-35. It is a great aircraft for what it does. Does it have flaws? Yes. So does the F-15C, for that matter, or the F-16C, or the Superbug. Aircraft are always a tradeoff. You will get advanced capability at the expense of being good at other things. I'd argue that with the proliferation of more and more advanced Russian IADS systems across the globe, America is going to need weapons like this more and more. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
AegisFX Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Hence the public Russian decision to employ tactical nuclear weapons early on in a conflict against an evenly matched enemy I suppose. GGTharos Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Then maybe you should find and read the opinion of an F-16 pilot transitioning to F-35 instead of the american-bashing RT BS :) "you take a look, is beautiful" min 6:20. GGTharos Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Doubtful. I saw some pretty good comparisons. outlawal2 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 After watching this video and considering Australia is also set to receive delivery of the F-35 by 2017. The F-22 and F-35 should be scrapped. Well over budget and the superhornet was found to be useless in air to air combat. Hornet should only be used as a replacement for CAS only missions, obviously no good in air to air or dog fights. US are adament they have the best military planes in the world, however in a combat scenario, I would much rather be in a Russian fighter. EDIT: i'll add that the B2 Spirit is probably just as useless considering it shares the same technology and stealth technology with it's JSF cousins QUOTE] Seriously... Are you alright? Did you bump your head over the weekend? Maybe a bit too much to drink? Highwayman-Ed Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Hey, I have an idea... Don't spend anything on defence for the next 10 years because as he says, nobody can touch the US. Then lets see what happens in 10 years when you need to bring the defence contractors out of retirement to build something to match the would be aggressor that has been spending their money on R&D for the military... Because you always want to go to war with an opponent on an equal footing right? Seriously though, everything should be done in moderation and I for sure would not want to be the one in government responsible for choosing who gets funding for something and who doesn't because you will NEVER be right. WildBillKelsoe Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 just like any aircraft that is said to be good or bad, you need a conflict to test out its metal. You can't hate an aircraft because of propaganda. And you can't love it either. I mean take the A-10 for example. Plenty of RL HUD, TGP, JTAC videos, AFAC BDA videos on youtube. Contrast this to the ones about damage, for example the Iraqi Freedom damage, the OAF book showing Goldie Haun's nacelle damage, the female pilot with peppered wings A-10, and you get a basic idea that the A-10 is sturdy in design, redundant in systems (in a good way), and can deal heavy damage to ground forces unlike any other aircraft. So my opinion is that available media can be a XXXhole glorifying, misleading stuff, or it can show the truth for those who understand. Another example for the exercises shows how squadrons glorify their mainstay fighters while in a real life scenario, things can go to shit quicker than the acted video. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Scrim Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 just like any aircraft that is said to be good or bad, you need a conflict to test out its metal. Nah, didn't you read the Gripen thread? If you send a jet to a training exercise, you'll know exactly how well it'll perform in actual combat. :music_whistling:
CypherGrunyev Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 These threads hurt to read. F-22 is fine. Fix the oxygen issue and it's a good aircraft. Infact It's up there with the Eagle for my favorite. F-35 is what you thought it was. a massive project where every senator and congressman got his dick into it by promising their constituents jobs in helping create it. So of course it isn't going to die. The oxygen issue was fixed almost 2 years ago. And it wasn't anything wrong with the plane. It was a combination of pressure garment and cold weather survival gear worn by pilots. http://articles.ktuu.com/2012-09-22/cold-weather_34045939 Edited April 14, 2014 by TZeer
ENO Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Actually not to be that guy but I'm totally going to be that guy- in the article you link to it says that there was in fact a glitch with the algorithm used in early service of the f22... But yes- they did fix it. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
FanBoy2006.01 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 In regard to the original topic. Yes, I also think that the F22 and F35 should be scrapped. The USA have a long line of crap aircraft. So I assume these two would be the same as the F15, F14, F16, F/A18, F4, A10, B52, B17, B24, F86 Sabre, P51, P47, F4U Corsair, F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat etc., etc. All junk:megalol: PS. I am being sarcastic.
realtrance Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Actually, given technologies already present both in Russia and the US, any further waste of capital on "next-gen" manned fighter jets is mainly a boondoggle to keep the military contracting business (to the tune of $200 billion for development of the F-35, and over $1 trillion for maintenance the first decade of availability, for example) going. It's just a form of corporate welfare. :) Meanwhile, we can enjoy all these beautiful machines in simulation and fantasy, along with the upcoming WWII ones and the MiG-21, in an environment where the waste, politics and utility issues are utterly irrelevant, without having to argue uselessly about their mostly-absent real world merits. Maximus_Lazarus Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 So, is it true that China already has new radar tech that can make "stealth" virtually obsolete ? I mean, when you think about it, people had to know that at one point the curves on a plane would not longer protect it from being detected right ? Not only planes advance, radar does too ? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
