All I saw were 11 people training with 10 red dressed leprechauns helping... there were 11 leprechauns initially there but one decided not to work today. Doesn't count!!! mmmkay? ;) .

Yurgon Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Nobody opened a thread for this? Lets do it! :) When casually looking at the TV screen, the background-color looks about right, but other than that there's too little Snooker there for my taste. :D Nah, just kidding. It's that time of the year when I either become a soccer fan or I'd have to hide in the basement for 4 weeks straight in order to maintain my mental health. As always, I opt to become a soccer fan. :music_whistling: That said, soccer rules! 4:0! :megalol: And while we're on the topic of calling it "soccer", there's this mandatory rant, in case there's someone not yet spammed to death by it. :) Edit: And while I was enjoying Cleese's rant, I already missed the US' first goal. They don't seem to waste a lot of time tonight. :) Edited June 16, 2014 by Yurgon

Griffin Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I'm not actually a football fan but I guess watching it once every 4 years could be enlightening. The stupid dives and ridiculous drama still ruins just about any game I try to watch. Exactly why I stopped following football many years ago. Could not but notice how immature and ineffective the Portuguese team was. Germans on the other hand; Wow!, that's the famous German efficiency! And I concur to the football vs soccer argument! There's no such thing as soccer and no such thing as American "football".
Suchacz Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Germans on the other hand; Wow!, that's the famous German efficiency! "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win." Gary Lineker  Per aspera ad astra! tarracta Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Persie's header against Spain was epic, but Argentina is still going to win the cup. nonono ... at least the Germans have good experience how to defeat them for another time, maybe there is some penalty shooting necessary
Feuerfalke Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) They rely too much on Ronaldo... When he kicked that ball and hit that single man standing still in front of the wide open goal, I really thought Ronaldo was going to cry. :music_whistling: Lahm probably said: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" I also loved that scene close to the end of the game, where the two Portuguese players l tried to take the ball from each other. Pilotasso Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Now that heads are cooler I can say this: The USA coach came forward to say that this group is not a forgone conclusion.. I think theres some logic to this and might not be as crazy as it sounds. American and African players can deal better with the heat and humidity. Ghana and USA going for the next phase? You can talk about efficiency, but for me that is a relative term. I would call efficiency when both teams are nearly balance but one scores with less attempts. What I saw yesterday wasn't it. I saw one team imploding and give up victory on a platter to the other. So the Germany team really is not tested yet. Portugal are trashed though, they can though still complicate matters in the group if they still manage to win 1 of the next matches. An then again the USA coach logic seems even less crazy. :) .

Pilotasso Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) yeah but who else is going to kick their own collective rears? :) On another note, Portugal is not hot and humid at the same time, so our difficulties are the same as everyone else from Europe (Itally is just as hot or hotter and Pirlo confessed he was hallucinating after the game, even without the cocaine) Edited June 17, 2014 by Pilotasso .
tarracta Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 This temperature issues are really ludicrous. These soccer players are all high-trained professionals which have no problem with high temperatures. And even here in Germany we've had muggy 38°C among the shades last week, nothing unusual here. In athletic sports afro-americans have little advantages to the Europeans .. but that doesn't mean a European could not win any sprint. Portugal has lost its faith yesterday because of the pressure... Ronaldo & Co are world class players which can do their thing.. if they got the chance to ... but they just hadn't got it.
Aginor Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 As long as there are no Italians are involved our German team should have a good chance to get far. Italians are their Cryptonite. True story. My favourite players in the tournament yet: - Mexico's keeper - That young Costa Rica guy who played like he was from Brazil. Can't remember his name. - Gerd eeehh... Thomas Müller (Germany) - Pirlo, the Italian guy who looks like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Brilliant passes. - Robben. He's just.... well, Robben I guess. - Benzema (France) And now that I saw the Brazilians play twice: WTF happened to them? Where is the magic Brazilian football ? Really underwhelming, I always liked that. Looking forward to the rest. I'm not the biggest football fan, but I like world championships. Edit: About that heat and weather thingie: I think it's only partially the heat that makes it so hard, it is also the humidity. Especially in the "jungle stadiums". Pilotasso Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 Brazil can be underwhelming at times, not the only time they done this, having said that this game was fully enjoyable with Mexico making a surprising showing. .
Aginor Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Yeah, they were great. Especially their defense. And that made the game enjoyable overall. EDIT: Joel Campbell is the Costa Rica guy I mentioned eralier. Great control over the ball, very nice to see him play. Edited June 17, 2014 by Aginor DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
