ED Team NineLine Posted July 10, 2014 ED Team Posted July 10, 2014 That is the goal of the DCS WWII 1944 project. One thing that is going to get weird here is the idea of the environment. The world for which you will fly WWII planes vs modern aircraft in DCS. Basically, ED will need to develop an entire world set in 1944 including cities, towns, buildings, roads, vehicles, life... that match the time period. The ground has to match the period aircraft, otherwise the simulation will simply miss an entire aspect of the experience and fall flat. Couple that we the modern aircraft world, and its simply a conflict of time period. Beyond the aircraft, developing the worlds for where those aircraft fly realistically is going to be a daunting task for ED. I simply do not see it happening.... and believe its best to stick with one time period and build a flight simulated world around that period. ED/DCS World is modern...not 1944. DCS not only "modern".... period. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=89885 DCS stands for “Digital Combat Simulator”. DCS is a world simulation engine permitting the user to operate or direct a growing number of combat and civilian aircraft, ground vehicles and ships, from different historical eras, in different geographical locations and at different levels of fidelity. It is a true "sand box" simulation. And ED has working now on a WW2 Normandy map. agrasyuk Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Good that you are content with what you can get. But 6 50cals on mustang, vs 8 of 50cals on thunderbolt, vs 20mm cannons on spit and 190 or single 20mm on 109. That much more difference to explore then say Mirage, Fantom, Tomcat, Flogger? I can understand its requires less effort to build simplier airframes, I fail to get excited about so many of those deeply simulated simple look-alike airframes. Anton. My pit build thread . outlawal2 Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Am I preventing you from moving on somehow? No not really, but several thousand posts all complaining about the same things.. Over choices that have already been made by ED.. And already explained by ED... That make absolute perfect business sense for ED... GETS OLD You don't like WW2 planes and have made that abundantly clear. ED isn't going to cancel the project because you want your F-18 yesterday. ED is going to make decisions based on their reasons not yours... Stating your opinion is great.. Railing about it over and over after so many others have exhausted this topic repeatedly is annoying.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO

Yes 95% is wheel spinning, but from all the white noise bits and pieces of customer base mood can be gathered. I'm quite sure developer will take this over very quiet 3 posts a day community. And if things happen to annoy you there is a very easy solution to that :) Besides, you don't see me on this side of board to often as I preffee to stay more on technical portion. Frostie Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 DCS is not and never has been limited to a specific time/era. As such, any arguments/debates relating to Modern/WWII/Jurassic etc etc are superfluous/irrelevant. Does this mean.. DCS Pterodactyl is on the cards? :notworthy: "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. diveplane Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 So instead of releasing planes from WWII, how about you give people what they really want. Jet aircraft ? F/A-18, F-15E, F-16!?, F-14 maybe. Hell, even the F-22 or let me fly a E-3 AWACS or KC-135 for some supporting role fun ( look i know plane names  ) I mean, and I would assume people play DCS because of its roots in jet fighters and bombers. If people want prop aircraft from back in the day, here is the link to War Thunder... http://warthunder.com/ I just don't understand why its being left to other company's to make the aircraft. Most of them cant give a release date, or get some much shit they want to do they can stay on task. I mean its nice to have a aircraft that is like the A-10C where I have full control. Can Eagle Dynamics not produce the F-15E or F/A-18 at the level of detail? wtf is going on, over? this post is a waste of time... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.

WindWpn Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 Understand regarding maps such as Normandy 44, but what about the content of the maps. Objects in particular populating the map(s) ranging from buildings/landscape to moving vehicles/armor/infantry, to horse drawn carts... life in 1944. I guess if EDs focus is building "worlds" across time periods and can successfully add life to those worlds, it will work. Exorcet Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 While I don't think ED is doing anything wrong (they develop what they can and what will sell to earn a living) all this amount of WWII birds does not really excite me. Not that I'm totally not interested but seems more of the same to me. After all they all are similarly shaped single props. So this one has somewhat diffeently aspirated engine, oh and this one has a clever altitude sensitive device to dose fuel, oooh and that one goes slightly faster when above x,000 feet. C'mon guys, I fail to see that much of a difference to warrant that deep level of work investment, you can't say that spitfire and mustang are not near same dang thing. They'll be more different than what we have in FC. Probably just as varied as having DCS F-teens (all of them). The Fw-190 is already quite a bit different from the P-51 in terms of systems of weaponry, and without all the computer assistance in these aircraft you can expect quirks in flying characteristics between them all even in level flight if the modeling is done well enough. There was a reason for all of these planes to be built back then and that should be reflected in the simulator. fearlessfrog Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) Sort of on-topic (and if there is one here, it's pretty well hidden) I was surprised how popular War Thunder is doing as a casual WWII sim: http://steamcharts.com/app/236390 It may be counter-intuitive to a lot of people here, but DCS is significantly smaller in current market-size than WT (or even Train Simulator actually).. Crack the 'accurate sim but fun' nut (even via WWII content) and there are obviously large markets waiting.. Edited July 10, 2014 by fearlessfrog ~~~ http://www.mudspike.com
