Cobra847 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 We've found a serious flaw in the visibility flags on the external model when in cockpit view. This is one of several things we've identified that are causing poor performance. I'll keep you updated as we progress in eliminating this issue. Eldur Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Everyones jumping to conclusions that dcs mig 21 bis is to blame for the low fps, couldnt it be caused by the new patch that was installed before mig 21 itself could be installed and played with ? Just a thought... A thought that could be supported by some guys who had the luck to fly the 21 before all others. Do they notice any fps drop? If yes, hit the nail right on the head. I also have like 25-30fps, didn't fly other modules yet (why except for just checking fps? :megalol:) in the new version. Corrigan Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) I've been trying to wrap my head around this all night: I, in contrast to most of those I've asked on TS, get significantly lower fps when looking down into the cockpit. I get something like 35 fps looking straight at the gunsight, but 27 when I look straight at the stick. Anyone have any idea what could cause me to lose fps when looking down, when others with similar systems gain frames when looking there? I've tried matching their settings, and lots of others too, and every time I have the same tendency. Does my problem possibly tie into what you've discovered, Cobra? We hope to improve performance in all viewing directions. Different performance based on viewing direction is totally possible though, with the main cause being the GPU and it's performance. In particular, something like fillrate, with normal and specular maps + significant amounts of textures in the cockpit has a significant effect. Corrigan Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Cool. I'm on 1.5 gigs of VRAM, the person I was comparing to has 2. I guess that could limit me enough compared to him that I'd see a drop, perhaps. Another thing; I posted this afternoon about the external LoDs: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130314 Is this something you would take a look at? Or is it behaving as intended? Maybe we could get a moderator to move the thread to the correct subforum. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5

Thus the even lower LoDs are very high in terms of polycount. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
Zakatak Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I'm glad you found problems with it, much better than the MiG-21 being a performance killer by default.

Rykane Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I honestly love how transparent and open the developers on this forum are. I'm so glad to be part of the DCS community. Glad you've found one of the problems Cobra! Say thank you to the whole LN team for their continuing great work.
statrekmike Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 So are we looking at a hotfix in the near(ish) future or is will there be a need to wait for a future DCS full update?
theGozr Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Well since it has big issue with the FFB and stick forces been always on ON and buzzing I wont be able to get in the plane and fly.. waiting for fix or it will blow my FFB rare Joystick.. I'm wondereing if the other dev checked their garphics as well. "We've found a serious flaw in the visibility flags on the external model when in cockpit view. theGozr Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Now thinking about it .. This FPS problem is hugely important .. The FPS should be optimized at maximum for a best smooth experience .. This is very important for the up coming new Terrain that will change many things .. if the plane graphics produce low FPS it will kill the work done by terrain graphics 3D textures team's efforts. So everything should fit together to aim for the best FPS smooth flight possible. No body want to fly on a sluggish aircraft that kill the flight combat sim experience due to low FPS.. ( and Vise Versa ) Thank you for "Listening" Edited September 18, 2014 by theGozr Fly it like you stole it..
JorgeIII Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Please fix this ASAP! My FPS went from 50-60 to 18-20. Its worst in MP. Many pilots on our squadron couldn't even fly it online, they had les that 10 fps with 7 migs on the airport. Anyways its and excellent module. AKA TANGO-117. DCS Modules: most of them, proficiency: only a few at a time. The most crucial aspect of a simulator is its realistic physics and precise aerodynamics, accurately reflecting all flight conditions.
Kelevra9987 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I do have an FPS Drop also, but i still have 20-30 FPS with that drop. But i get real lags, when im starting the Engine. Foul Ole Ron Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Sounds like a few bugs crept in right at the end when compiling the final build. No worries these things can happen and will get fixed. LN are clearly on the case and will get it sorted out. Admirable lack of freaking out by the community too! We'll all be flying the Mig with normal FPS soon enough. There's often a few bugs with any DCS World release so hopefully ED can slot in a hot fix shortly. They probably had one planned anyway for anything that came up.
Wissam24 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Yeah, I'm having the same issues. Decent enough PC to play other DCS modules with comfortable FPS, but the 21 just falls off a cliff. Glad to see a bug has been identified and is being fixed!
Drona Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 BUY ALL THE TITANS! If you're paying for it, I don't mind :music_whistling:
Lilkiki Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Just had a thought this night, I'm sure that the actual "DCS 3D engine" does not help to get good FPS, even on high-end computers. If EDGE runs like ED announced, I'm about sure that the actual Mig's 3D mesh (about 18Mo with 0% Lods) would run with maximised FPS, even with lots of AI units on the map. Don't forget that the Mig-21 was planned to be released with EDGE few weeks ago Is there a relation of cause and effect ? :smartass: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
audax Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Lilkiki, the preview version had much better performance. It clearly is just a bug.
TurboHog Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Glad to see that LN is working on it! In the meanwhile I can read the manual ;) 'Frett'
