Try to see it this way: Wags wants to show us cool stuff to make the waiting easier, and don't have us worry so much about which features ED is working on and how they look.

AKA as "Demo State", where the software is at a point where it can be publicly demo'd to a live audience unxer developer control, but still has major blocking issues.

 

you see it all the time at GDC and E3, the developers demo a specific part of the engine/game, well before alpha or beta testing is even thought of,, looks good on the floor because the demo is setup that way, things that cause crashes etc are removed or bypassed.

 

The streams look great and run smooth, but as he said in the last newsletter, still got some major things to fix, the missions in the videos are likely setup to avoid any of the blocking bugs. They arent gonna intentionaly setup a mission to showcase a crash or major bug.

My primary concern is the FPS in Las Vegas. DCS World 1 would come to its knees around Novo or Sochi if there were many objects to "paint" and, as some have experienced, come to a complete stop with 1 frame per several seconds if someone caused some smoke or some such.

 

In DCS World 2, in the streams, I noticed some stutter here and there. It was noticeable but acceptable for such a high degree of detail.

 

What I would like to know is at that intense level of detailing (non-flat shadowing, etc.), what was/is Wags' FPS and what CPU core speed does he have? What GFX card(s) does he use for the demos?

You arent required to watch the streams, take part in these threads or anything else, if the hype is too much for you then maybe you need to find something else to pass the time? I am not sure why you are getting so worked up.

Umm.. ED do very little teasing, and always the opposite of hyping since their was ED.

 

If you had said there's nothing to discuss before the live stream, I'd agree. Infact, you can post questions which might get answered by Wags during live stream. Yah, there are plenty to discuss now and hopefully, 2-3 tims a month, we can discuss Wags' stream.

 

I'd personally like to see yo-yo and wags alternate the stream.

Thanks. From the web, i7 4770K base clocks at 3.5 and can go up to 3.9. With my two 680's and my clock cruising at 4.6, I should be able to match Wags' FPS.

I hope all those buildings are neseccary, it would be a tad disappointing if they led to poor frame rate. I would rather lower model count and higher frames. Total speculation and it would be rather overkill if the buildings caused a signifigant frame rate drop but regardless less is more.

Well an empty map would be much better for FPS, but would be rather boring. I think for the most part people will be quite pleased with performance zipping through the buildings along the strip.

Not only are we getting more eye candy, but more options for controlling that eye candy to suit each and everyones machines better. I am pretty sure they understand having more than one unit flying around isnt what they should be shooting for, I am sure the Red Flag campaigns they are working on in conjunction with Steve Davies will have a number of units and things going on in them. Everything they are doing is for better quality and performance.

The discussion is about the features and such for DCS World 2.0, opinions on everything else really are not on topic, that includes how ED promotes the upcoming changes and release timelines. If you dont like the "hype' or streams, dont watch them.

I am happy with the general quality of Medium at the moment but with my system (under-used on both CPU and GPU) I can only get about 20fps at Batumi and around 30-35 in the air. I am hoping Edge will give a significant fps boost at those typical settings which might even let me increase them. I am however running 5900 x 1080 Surround plus 1920x1080 below (instruments) or about 8MPixels so I don't expect miracles even from the GTX980.

Well, you really have to understand the statement before you worry, I mean everyone has different experiences with performance, with my current machine I get really good FPS in the current release, if I get the same or similar in 2.0 I will be happy.

You have some kind of issue then because I have a GTX770Ti and get better than that.. Time to start looking at the forum as you have an issue with your system or your settings somewhere..

What do you think the bottleneck is?

 

I am running 4k (8.3MP) with two 970's and I can see upwards of 122 frames and down into the 20's depending on what's going on. But that can be attributed both to graphics (bringing up the mav cam, tgp, and mirrors in the A-10C is good for a graphics hit) where I see scenery processing go through the roof, and CPU (throw a ton of SAMS all over the map and I can see micro stutter madness as my CPU tops out) maxing out.

 

It seems odd that you think both are underutilized and yet your performance is still bad. Something bottlenecked.

You are running four 1920 x 1080 monitors?

I have been twiddling with settings for some time :(

 

@xaoslaad. I guess there most be then. I've been looking through the forums and tried adjusting graphics.lua. Turned off HT. Only using in-game settings not Nvidia CP. It did surprise me that I got no more fps with the four screens and GTX980 than I did with my one screen and GTX570.

 

Anyway we're in danger of going OT with talk like that :)

EDIT: I just saw your resolution.. That is a lot of pixels. How do you have your second monitor setup in Helios? If you have it BELOW the other monitor then you are pushing way more pixels than you need to and that may be the issue. Redo the Helios profile and add the 2nd monitor at the end of the main display rather than stacking them. (Helios does not care where you place the physical monitor but if you setup Helios with the 2nd monitor beneath the main one then your pixels are multiplied and will take a lot more horsepower to push them unnecesarily...

I didn't intend to SiThSpAwn, there are already many other threads on the subject. It was just a hope for Edge. But as I'm typing - and I don't need a reply - I'll just tell outlawal2 that it's not 'below' but at the end alongside the 5900x1080 Surround in Windows resolution giving overall 7820 x 1080 in game.

EDIT: and it's not HELIOS it's full blown game graphics across 4 monitors.

 

I'm really waiting for Edge now to see what happens.
