Terrorizing McCarran International Airport in an Mi-8MTV2

In previous previews of the NTTR map, I have shown you Nellis AFB, Creech AFB, and Groom Lake AFB. In this video, today we have a look at McCarran International Airport.

This video was recorded using pre-alpha builds of DCS World 2 and the NTTR map. As such, this may not represent the final products.

As the ever present "when" question... we estimate between March and June.

I imagine that is for the Alpha release, to A-10C beta purchasers, only.

DCS 2 open alpha will be free and accessible for everyone, NTTR should come with it free for A-10C beta purchasers and everybody else should be able to buy it for unspecified amount of $$$

From the first post in the thread.

An Alpha test version of the NTTR map will be made available for free to those customers that purchased the A-10C beta. For those that did not take part in the A-10C beta, the NTTR map price and availability is TBD

Hopefully someone will start making AI civil planes soon. It would be nice to have to dodge the Southwest 737s, Cessnas, and tour helicopters on approach into LSV.

Oh you negative nancy's....

From Wag's YouTube account...

As to the when questions: we are projecting sometime between March and June 2015 based on the current blocking bugs. We realize that this is taking a very long time, but building a new graphics engine from the ground up is a massive task, but we think that you are starting to see the the time and effort has been worth it.

Whats the fuss all about , there is nothing new in the time-frame here , they said they were aiming for public alpha first half of 2015

that means, if not this month then sometime in March till June, so if anything they are still on schedule set in the Mudspike interview last month.

People need to relax.

p.s

after that thread someone opened in bug report section about stuff in Waggs`s video not being exactly 1-1 to RL then i get why they delay this.

What's wrong with pointing out errors in a forum that's dedicated to...pointing out errors? Why wait until things are set in stone before pointing out an error? Why not say something early while it's more easily dealt with? Why the need to bash anyone and everyone who is anything other than mesmerized by what they see? It's entirely possible to love something, but still want it to be better.

Sometimes its just as easy to model something correctly as it is to do incorrectly, if only the developer is made aware of the error.

Is it negativity or the fact that every estimate up to this point has proven to be wrong? I don´t mean to bicker or complain, but that´s the way it is.

To end on a different note - in the latest video, I really love how low-level flying looks and the immense amount of detail that has been put into 3D models.

EDGE is only showing half of it´s potential in a barren landscape like NTTR or the Strait of Hormuz.

I´m really dying to see how EDGE will render more temperate zones with green forests and rolling hills such as you would find on a channel map for example.

The promo videos for commercial products featuring earlier versions of EDGE were quite impressive.

Doesnt give anyone the right to misinterpret what was said just to be negative for the sake of being negative, which are what posts like that are...

Because there will be a long Alpha period I am sure, nothing is "set in stone" and the video likely contains a few errors, many of which are already known. You cant judge or do any sort of true bug reporting based off a video... you will have plenty of chances to do that with the alpha release.

Stunning video. We've seen a lot of good detail so far, and the amazing scalability of EDGE, from ground level all the way to high altitudes, with super smooth transitions.

The only thing we haven't seen are special effects and convective weather.

I am out of words that could describe how much I am looking forward to DCS 2.0! :)

EDIT: The March - June time frame allows me to save up on a second video card for SLI and another 32GB of RAM.

What I'd like to know is, will there be substancial updates/bugfixes in the meantime? I realize that certain fixes for various modules are scheduled to be included in 2.0 to limit the need to maintain two development branches. Also, I am not complaining that 2.0 and EDGE as such is coming late®, but I have a feeling that there is a backlog of more or less important fixes building up with this approach ...

EDGE is looking pretty damn good. All the little details are starting to come together to give life to the environment. The city feels like a city; the airport feels like an airport. I'm also excited about how the new engine will handle lighting (do we have a night video yet? I haven't seen one).

Hopefully no nasty bugs reveal themselves and we can get our hands on 2.0 relatively soon.

And that is what worries me a bit. It will probably rather be June than March when 2.0 hits the download servers....

I just hope, that they (they as in all devs concerned) reconsider this policy - on a case-by-case basis as well as they (as in "ED") reconsider(ed/ing) their 2.0 schedule as whole ... :o)

Anything that is blocking or causes crashes certainly would get pushed ahead, but anything they deem non-critical would probably wait as moving them from 2.0 to release can have their own problems...

Video is not bad, finally city looks better, closer to real city. Airport also :)

I hope in the final not everything will be shining, example concrete.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D
