So, here's the thing:

I just started out. I couldn't help myself and within a week of owning a HOTAS and starting I bought FC3 and the Huey. Full price.

Let's assume I want it all. All the planes. Fast.

What will happen when DCS 2 comes out ? Will they make upgraded/updated models of existing, will I need to buy it again ? Is there anything official on that ?

DCS 2.0 is a free update, any new maps you will need to buy. See the first post.

And, no, you won't have to buy your modules again. Just new maps like NTTR, Strait of Hormuz, Normandy, etc. as Sith pointed out. Georgia will remain free under 2.0.

I'm sorry, I guess my question wasn't that clear. I get that new maps I have to buy. I get that old modules will keep working.

The actual question, as far as I can make it clearer (not native english here), is if there will be updated modules, like 2.0 versions, with the risk of haveing to pay more/again if I want those. Or is it safe to assume that what I will buy now I will be 'stuck with' for DCS 2 ?

You will only have to pay for new content, all your existing modules will be upgraded to 2.0 as they are now with other updates.

It is always possible that v2.0 versions could be created, with added content. However, I think you can safely consider it unlikely.

I notice they not using the grass that was featured in early screenshots. Even though it looked copy and pasted it still looked decent. Perhaps they've scrapped it and opted for bushes and grass patches similar to what we have now.

What i like from those pics is it seems like the foliage draw distance is remarkably far and much improved. Will be great for rotor heads and tree top flying!!

This is a rather confusing thread. I came here to see if 2.0 was still on track to be released this year. Now I'm not sure what to think.

I can say confidently that Sith is rockstar for posting so much in this thread and keeping things on track. It's very much appreciated.

There is always a balancing act between performance and quality. Hopefully they've designed EDGE so that they can easily upgrade most aspects as the sim is optimized and computer systems allow.

I don't think we can expect a optimized performance on the beta release. That is not realistic with any software released as a beta product.

Yes but the latest video's[GA's to be precise]do look very, very smooth and FPS Friendly:)

Yes it does but its also a single ship no combat flight.... we need improved performance in combat not solo flights. Also his FOV is pulled back giving a false sense of speed

Yes, you cant tell anything about the performance based on a video. We need the beta to test with adding units and other aircrafts and static units ............ No one can tell about performance before a longer test periode is done.

Are you just confused about the release date or was there something else confusing you? What part of the thread do you find confusing and maybe someone can help out.

Edit: Just saw that you said: "Sith is rockstar for posting so much in this thread and keeping things on track" So, I'm abit confused why you're confused now :)

Of course we can expect optimized performance with the beta over the original DCS graphic engine performance, and its quite possible that the beta will be optimized by the time the beta is finished. As well as possible further performance optimizations thru the life of the product. Code isn't written on stone tablets.

Agreed, I think you only have to look at the videos that have been posted to see it has been optimized over the current DCS engine.

Please note, that the video can be rendered after the flight from the saved track with any FPS you want , even 120 if you wish, and with the highest details posible :smilewink:

you know, the main optimization is the dx11 usage, so the plus 200-400% FPS increase (antialiasing dependant) is not bad imho :)

Ya I'd like to see the numbers to prove that. Until we see combat scenarios with ai and other players in this Edge it's all hogwash and speculation. I'm sure he pretty graphics will run better but will see when we have it if it's the same story as the current Dcs when theirs actually action going on the map. Would hope it's much improved but seeing they dropped that pretty grass tells me their making cuts

have you ever tried the unigine valley benchmark "demo" ?

with that you can see a beautiful living grass and forest madness :)

you can see the FPS comparison of API OpenGL dx9 and dx11 and you will see that (antialiasing dependant) 200-400% FPS gain - with dx11 ultra quality settings it runs smooth as a dream on fullhd

Not sure this is really relevant for this thread.

Don't get your hopes up, just because it's dx11 doesn't mean it magically fixed all performance problems especially in edge with all the mass amounts of calculations it does. I believe performance will be much improved generally but the specific area I'm concerned about is when high cpu calculations are slaughtering the frame rate in current engine. If that is totally fixed then I'd say amazing upgrade. Uniengine is a totally different animal compared to a simulator.

I would say if you want to compare it to anything the closest thing would be Arma 3. For those who have been around that series awhile should get the picture real quick.

Wrong quote sorry Sith was the guy above ya.
