Yeah I would definitely pay $5 more to have "Highway to the Danger Zone" as the menu music!

Want to bet the royalties would cost more than that. :)

Or you know... You can mod it yourself for free. ;)

My understanding was 2 aircraft from LNS to be released 2015, but given the current trend in delays around here you might be right.noexpression.gif

Cmon, let's have some faith in them. They expanded their team, they have knowledge, experience and they stated that it's already in advanced stages. Let's be positive. :)

I am not for Tomcat love, personally think it is boring plane (well maybe I'll try Phoenixes :D once) but good to see some movement around double crew crafts.

Regarding release date it is rather obvious it will take much more than predicted time, 1.5-2 years perhaps :)

The only problem with that statement is that you have no idea how far along they are with this project so their timeframe just may be possible..

x1000 this!

I totally get and share the Tomcat love, but Top Gun is one of the most cringe-inducingly bad movies I've ever seen.

Can't wait to fly an LN-built F-14, though. Good times. :joystick: :pilotfly:

Top Gun is pretty much a guilty pleasure for me. I hate every second of it, apart from the flying scenes. Any scene without plane is insufferable to watch. But these carrier shots make it worth sitting through Iceman playing volleyball without a shirt on (shudders).

LOL true, I guess Goose AI doesn't really have as snappy a ring to it as Jester AI. Plus with Jester there isn't the suggestion of potential canopy KO. Jester is a more recognizable character than Merlin so I understand not going with that one.

If we're going to suggest celebrity voicing for the AI though I'd prefer the suggestion of Ironside over Edwards. Sure Goose is the iconic RIO/WSO, but Jester has that meaner "kill a commie for your mommy" voice than Edwards has.

Oh come one! Goose has been my role model since....ever.....

What about the parts where they say "I'll brake and he'll fly right by" and then push the throttles *forward* to the stops and pull up?

I find that kind of painful to watch...

That's 80's cheese, mate.

Tony Scott himself was aware that some of these scenes were not "realistic", yet none of the actual dogfight scenes actually are either. At the ranges you would normally engage with these planes, there is no way they'd fit through the camera and still make it visible. A realistic movie is not necessarily a good one when you think about it. I have yet to see a 100 % realistic air combat movie. The same process goes for flight sim movies as well. You often have to shoot airplanes closer together than they normally would be just so the video can be enjoyable to watch.

Just for the sheer debilitating amount of complexity involved in doing these aerial shots I can forgive him the cheese.

Oh dear -- what a huge thread already. Glad to have so much enthusiasm behind us. We won't let you down. :)

I have a question: Who is responsible for this super cool 3D model of the tomcat?

We are.

The cockpit is also finished -- we will be showcasing it soon.

This thread is swelling- might be asked already but:

Cobra: "NOTE: Due to an unexpected technical error in our website & subsequent down-time due to overloading the server, this is a limited, interim announcement."

Does this mean that there is more to this reveal than what has been shown? Were we actually meant to see more?

Yes -- there was supposed to be lengthier info on the site.

Since there are a lot of questions in this thread; I will use more time to wrap up the project page and include a FAQ.

It looks amazing, really. Great job. I'm admiring it even more as a 3d modeler myself (well... amateur trying hard). I just hope you guys know that a lot of people don't have computers able to render six gazilion polys at once :D

The really cool part is taking this million poly model and by using some impressive technics and texture magic - reduce it into 5% of the polys here to make it playable ...
