Completely see ED's point in DCS 2.0, Have any of you seen dayz in alpha over a year........... Just put that into perspective of making DCS 2.0 amazing, Yes you could release early but how many of us would cry due to bugs and things not working ? :megalol:

My guess is that it will be somewhat similar to the satellite recon feature in falcon 4. It would allow you to recon a target area to see enemy targets.

For instance your mission is to target a Nuke plant. You would be able to recon it to see AA placements. Chances are the ones that spawn based on random figures or triggers won't be visible in a recon "photo." Probably would only display "known" threats or pre-planned threats.

That is also another possibility, though I would expect the verbiage to be 3D ME.

IMO, current map type with denser isoline and more labels/marks can be enough for placement or recon?

So new GUI, a few effects that need to be improved and peformance enhancements?

tbh I'm not so sure about it being far off, aside from the GUI it all sounds pretty minor. Since he makes it sound like an open alpha was already being considered, I'd imagine it's pretty close to being available.

Some high res versions of those screenshots would be nice though.

Well, this shows exactly what development projects encounter. Challenges when all the functions must play together, it's normal. Keep up the good work ED

Ahh it is like I tell my clients - the longer it takes the better it gets.

So I am cool with however long it takes.

My only gripe would be developers waiting to release a patch (or paint kit..hint hint) until 2.0 is released.

I didn't read it like that. Apparently they want to integrate a lot of stuff before releasing the Alpha. The biggest surprise is that they want to integrate multicockpit functionality into 2.0 before releasing it?!

I was really stoked because of the recent flood of pics and videos, it seemed to be quite close. I would be prepared to play an alpha with all of these added features missing, but it seems they want to make it as feature complete as possible. Im very dissapointed but I have only myself to blame since I should have known better.

I hope it comes before Christmas, but the absence of a date as well as the expanded feature list doesn't give me much hope. I will not fret, in fact I will simply pretend that 2.0 is not coming.

Considering most companies these days pump out unfinished pay products, I find EDs integrity absolutely amazing.

Good on ya for having pride in your product.

Are you referring to the fact that once 2.0 is available it's only going to be in alpha stage or to the fact that most DCS planes released int he past 2 years are still in beta? :P

The bad news is this time there is no ETA. The rest is good news.

Fore and firstmost: there's NOTHING that comes close to DCS. If all I had was the Huey or Hog, I'd die happy. But I have everything. This defines ecstasy for my pilot-self.

ED, take as long as it takes to do it right. People who belly-ache and moan are just people who love you so much. Kids will be kids, you know.

My (ex-programmer) question is, just what the heck is the difference between Pre-alpha, Alpha, Pre-beta, Beta, and Post-beta? I don't mind ripping through the air around McCarran without guns or ATC, but I sure don't want to see big blue holes in the runway or hovering firetrucks.

Finally, since you're working on ATC, are you going to have an intelligent (FAA/AI) response to those Skuzz-bucket newbies who fire 30mm into McCarran's tower? Say... their tails and tips instantly become orange... or pink even!

And finally-finally, is there a way we can get a hi-res of those two AWESOME thumb-nails. Hoover looks so... so.... yeah, just so...!

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

We have done that to ourselves by counting the months, days and minutes to perceived deadlines...

What about an ETA for 2017? We could somewhat cool down and if it gets relased before so be it.

This "wait just a bit" thing is getting old and frustrating, as much as i understand the reasons for the delays and stuff.
