Red Dragon-DK Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Sorry, if this have been mention before. When I stand outside a clear night, and watch the sky, I can see the navigations light from the aircraft up there miles away. I wish this were implanted in DCS World. Being able to see navigation light from a realistic distance. As it is today I think it fade away too soon. 1 Intel I7 4770K, Evga 1080 FE, win10 64Pro, 32GB ram, TracIR 5, Hotas Warthog, MFD Cougar x2, MFG Crosswind
Joao611 Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough but I only see the airliners' lights when they're quite low.
Ranbi2Delta Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) Aircraft lights are visible from tens of miles away. That's their purpose. At night time you will see the lights of an aircraft (especially an airliner) long before you are able to make out its silhouette. This is especially true with the white strobe lights and landing lights. I agree with Red Dragon here, the lights in DCS serve no purpose other than eye candy at this point. Nav light visibility distances similar to FSX/P3D is really what we need. Edited November 2, 2015 by Ranbi2Delta 1 "What's that goat doing up here in the clouds?"
theGozr Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 This is a huge problem , Reflection of aircraft glass/ fuselage etc at distance should be greatly improved, Lights at distance nee also a serious improvement at distance.. for now they vanish.. they should stick out greatly instead :) SO yeas it is a pain and hopefully this is addressed and should be improved as priority really. Fly it like you stole it..
SDsc0rch Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 yes - i support this idea also (and equally important) aircraft lights have specific arcs of visibility --- this way you can roughly discern the aspect of the aircraft ((same or similar for ships)) it seems odd such amazing attention to detail is evident in so many places in DCS - and then you see something like this and wonder how it slipped through : ) i'm sure this is on an ED buglist somewhere, i hope its only a matter of time before it gets attention 1 i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Why485 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I was hoping this would be fixed with the model visibility settings but nav lights are just as difficult to see now as they were before. Nav lights are supposed to be easily visible for miles, so I hope ED addresses this at some point.
Deano87 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 +1 would love to be able to see nav lights at long distance! QuiGon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 +1 It would also teach those guys a leason that forget to turn them off when entering the AO :D Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Northstar98 Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 +1 I find locating airbases without using TACAN, VOR, NDBs etc impossible, even when I'm on my downwind leg (yeah I shouldn't just be relying on mere guess work and VFR to navigate at night anyway but you get the point). The same applies when teaching formation flying in the dark - people can't see me until they get really close. S-GERAT Posted May 5, 2017 Posted May 5, 2017 Any news on this ? Yesterday was doing a training flight with other members of my squadron at night time and was nearly impossible to stay on visual with each other.. It's hard to believe that something like this has not been sorted after too many years..
MikeMikeJuliet Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 At least the reflections are getting an overhaul. I believe it was on Mudspike on the early look at the Normandy map in 2.1. version. Found it! In the latter half of the article, a few screenshots and a brief mention on the subject http://www.mudspike.com/preview-of-dcs-normandy-1944-and-wwii-assets-pack/ Not quite on the lights yet, but it shows promise, eh DCS Finland | SF squadron
twistking Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 yes, nav lights visibility should really be bumped. on the mustang trainer (the free aircraft), the nav light even vanish completely with the first LOD switch (obviously a bug - haven't tested since last patch though) My improved* wishlist after a decade with DCS *now with 17% more wishes compared to the original
OnlyforDCS Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Unfortunately form what I've seen of the Alpha of Normandy, this has not yet been adressed. I hardly ever switch them on in 1.5 anymore they don't improve visibility one bit. :( Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
