mjmorrow Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 If you are a fan of the MiG-15, you would probably really enjoy the MiG-21. I think that you can feel the heritage (if that's possible in a Sim), but the MiG-21 is much higher performance and trickier to take-off/land...but that's the fun part! -Nick This is my experience, as you predict, Nick. I am a fan of the Mig-15bis and I do really enjoy the Mig-21bis. While I really like all of the modules I own, the Mig-15bis & Mig-21bis are my overall favorite rides. The Mig-15bis & Mig-21bis add-ons make me now want to collect all the Migs, turn DCS into DMS, Digital Mig Simulator. :) :pilotfly: MJ [sIGPIC]http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/mjmorrow76/SPAD%20of%20a%20new%20generation_zpshcbftpce.png[/sIGPIC]
GaryIKILLYOU Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 A-10C MiG-21Bis Su-25A MiG-15Bis Those are pretty much the only aircraft I fly anymore. Sometimes I'll take an F-15 up for a spin just to danger zone out, but if I sit down and "fly" it's one of those four. MegOhm_SD Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) The following for immersion in no particular order of preference: P51 - will never forget the day I had a gunfight with a human piloted F15 and won. Well no surprise really but hey... Mirage - just a fun plane, fuel management. A10C - for the weapon systems and the graceful lumbering time in the TO. Mig21 - just a beautiful job by the devs and immersive. F86 - love this little jet, a lot of fun against the Mig 15 and over the shoulder bombing. UH-1H - when I feel like flying a Chopper whether transport or as a gunship. KA-50 - was proficient but it has fallen by the wayside lately. BF109 and FW190 - flew them for awhile and enjoy their idiosyncrasies but so many others to fly. Maybe revisit when we get the Normandy map. F15 - when I just feel like cruising around and running mountain valleys at high speed. Have most all modules but the rest gather dust. Too many planes to fly really. Ready for the F18 which will probably take over because of ground radar, SEAD and Carrier Ops! Dingo_Bob Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 (edited) 1. Mirage - Flavour of the month (year) excellent fun to fly 2. F-86 - just fun to fly humming the theme for it in your head all day long :D 3. UH1 - great module 4. Bf109 - for being a painful frustration to get in the air at first but rewarding when you do :D The Tomcat's most likely going to the top with all likelyhood the Gazelle up there too in the interim good year so far so much to come Edited April 14, 2016 by Dingo_Bob [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Modules are like Pokemon you gotta catch 'em all :joystick::lol::pilotfly: AMD Ryzen7 3700x, G-Skills 32Gb RAM @ 3200Mhz, MSI GTX1080Ti, TM Warthog (20cm extension by Sahaj), MFG Crosswind Pedals, Oculus Rift, Track Ir5

MegOhm_SD Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I have most modules but never use the Mig 21..very complicated..but I am going to give it a whirl !! Mizzy Why do you find the Mig21 complicated? I don't think it is. There is a good guide out there and there was a English pit mod but I don't know if it was updated for latest patch. It was broken by one of them recently. mmaruda Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 My personal opinion is a bit pessimistic, but I consider any module that comes without a proper theatre of operations more of a novelty, rather than a full game. That said, here is my list: 1. Ka-50 Black Shark - the least painful entry to the study-sim genre, a very interesting machine that comes with two campaigns, a great manual and in-game tutorials to flatten the learning curve. It's also very fun, very manly and not to hard to fly. 2. Su-25 - does not come in full simulation mode, but it's a legendary Russian ground attack plane for real men with hair on their chests. Not very complicated to operate, but very challenging to fight in and very satisfying. 3. A-10C - it was a pinnacle of combat flight simulation when it launched. Nuff said. My only gripe with it is that the whole conflict in Georgia is a bit of a stretch - it's completely implausible that the USA would get engaged in such a force in such a conflict. 4. UH1 - legendary helo, though not really fitting modern conflict scenarios, but it was a lesson in humility to learn to pilot this baby, so in essence, for me it was sort of a milestone in flightsimming career. 5. Su-27 - yet another not fully modelled plane, but I have a sentiment for the Flanker since I loved it since Flanker 2.0 and it's something of a flagship for ED products. Also works very well online and as I said, it fits the setting. What should be on the list but isn't: 1. Mig-21 - poor manual and a very user unfriendly controls list that makes assigning everything the way I like a problem, so I never got to learn the plane. But it is on the 'to do' list. Also it had a lot of bugs and performance issues. 2. Mi-8 - where is mah manual!? 3. All the WWII planes with the Dora leading the pack... as soon as the map arrives, they will be my top planes to fly. 4. Mig-15 and Sabre - same as above 5. Combined Arms - huge potential, but still miles to go, before it's reached. I'm still hoping for a good armour simulation sometime in the future.
Scooternutz Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Mi-8: I fly tons of CSAR and its better if you cold start. Ka-50: Just plain bad ass and I have been flying it since 2009. A-10C: Amazing on CAS but get bored after start up and take off. Mig-21: Love it but just free fly with it right now. Huey: When I don't want to fly the Mi-8. I own all the modules and fly from time to time to keep current. Own Combined Arms, never played it once. Frostie Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 All of them, keep promising myself some stick time in each but the opportunity to do so is always few and far between. The Flanker, Ka50 and MiG21 are my primary choices. I'd love more hours in the P51, BF109, F86, MiG15, Mi8 and Huey all great modules. The A10C is amazing but boring, i'd love to see the Su25 vanilla in full DCS glory as it has always been one of my fave rides, everything you do in it, a2g, a2a, landing, it always feels like a great accomplishment, it makes the Su25T feel like easy mode. The MiG-21 and MiG-15 surprised me, I was expecting to prefer the western aircraft that I grew up reading about. I also think the Cold War MiGs are excellent candidate since they are mostly declassified and are not too complicated from a systems standpoint, especially compared to the F/A-18C or F-16C. One aircraft that I would LOVE to see in DCS that is not a MiG is this one: The Su-15TM. Seems pretty obscure to most people, but it actually played a bigger role in Soviet Air Defense than the MiG-25 (which was it's contemporary counterpart). It is a somewhat better rounded fighter, not as fast, but reported to be more maneuverable. Old fashion radar operations and finicky weapons make me happy. I hope we get a lot more MiG modules, especially the MiG-23, MiG-25 (or Su-15TM), and MiG-19. -Nick PS - I should mention that someone would be crazy for doing the Su-15TM before the MiG-23...but I still like it. :) Edited April 15, 2016 by BlackLion213
311Gryphon Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Interrogative: what user mods are referred to for the UH-1 and F-86? I'm pretty reluctant to start installing mods as I don't want to break the game or make any of the modules less realistic. I did use a canopy mod for the F-86 before 1.5 since it was nearly impossible to see out of in some cases. I'm very interested in mods but definitely don't want anything that reduces the realism. Thanks. http://www.youtube.com/user/311Gryphon i7-8700, 32 GB DDR4 3000, GTX 1080 TI 11GB, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, Dual (sometimes Triple) monitor, TM Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pro Combat Pedals, TrackIR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Oubaas Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 For Russian aircraft, I like the MiG-21, KA-50, and the MI-8. I'm still waiting to add the MiG-15 and the L-39. U. S. Aircraft, the A-10C, F-86, and UH-1 are great. It would be tough for me to specify a favorite from that lot, but if you pressed me, the MiG-21 is truly awe inspiring, a beautifully done module. But they're all great, really. I haven't hit a bad one yet. Oubaas
Alfredson007 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Mig 21 is the best. It looks great sounds great and is challenging. I prefer simple planes, the mig felt complex at first but it really is not that complex. Pulling g forces with mig just feels great but the most addictive feature is the landing. It is a challenge but in a right way. I still feel great after perfect crosswind landing. The second favourite is the tf51 mustang. It is a nice stick and rudder plane for aerobatics. I find it more challenging in the air than the mig. Those are the planes i take seriously. I fool around sometimes with su27, f15 and sabre but atm they are disabled because i just do not fly them atm. Sabre looks great and has a bit similar feel as the mustang but i prefer the mustang which is complete opposite tp the mig while sabre is something between.

Apocalypse31 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Top 2, since I only own 4 modules (CA, UH-1, A-10A, and KA-50) #1 Combined Arms I am a ground pounder and have always had an affinity for armored vehicles. I think the DCS game engine is powerful and IS suited for ground combat - much better than ArmA or Steel Beasts. If I wanted JUST ground combat then I'd go play Steel Beasts, but I'm here for more; I want a combined arms experience, and DCS does it exceptionally well. The CA module balances the game, in terms of combined air-ground integration. There's still some improvements for the CA module, but I think there is a fun balance with the vehicles that lands it somewhere between ArmA 3 and Steel Beasts. In a community that is 99% pilots, I sometimes have to remind folks that aviation is used in support of ground operations :D. You'd be surprised at how much fun a mission can be with a dedicated ground player. #2 UH-1 Huey I'll echo what several others are saying: it just feels right. I like to use the UH-1 as a recon/light attack aircraft in the missions that I create. I'd love to use it more in the transportation role, but the lack of a decent infantry model makes immersion difficult - no interior infantry models & strict scripting for transportation missions. BFBunny Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I got this game because of the ww2 birds. I got sidetracked by all the other fancy stuff, but at heart I'm a piston pilot. The 109 is just everything. Hard to use, rewarding to fly and you look damn cool using it.
