metalnwood Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Clicking outside the DCS image on the desktop switches the active application from DCS to windows thereby preventing control unless you move the mouse pointer back into the DCS image and click it. It's frustrating at the least. Here's to renewing my wish for the option to enable the mouse completely if the user wants it. I was hoping to see that today. This was the cause of a couple of crashes for me, aircraft crash that is. You click on the mouse but if your mouse was outside the DCS window on the desktop you wonder why no inputs are working while you travel down to the ground and you have to get out of the rift to find the windows to click on the gain focus. Blindly clicking on the mouse button and not knowing what the mouse might be clicking on your actual desktop could be a recipe for disaster.

There needs to be a way to trap the mouse pointer into the DCS mirror window on the desktop to prevent deactivating it as the primary application running so this doesn't happen. I've had it happen to me a couple of times as well. NeilWillis Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I am about to place an order for the CV1, and although I'm in the UK, I shall be placing the order via a company my wife works for in the USA. So, I have a question - does it require an external power supply, and if so, does the USA package come with a universal power adaptor, with both 110 and 240 volts switchable, or will I need to get hold of a European adaptor as well? As the device is marketed at $599.99 in the US, and the UK price comes up as £599.99, then even with onward postage, it'll save a bundle.

There are no power connections, just USB and HDMI ports. I believe the Vive uses power connections for their laser trackers.

Chivas Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I'm just going thru the RMA process with the Rift, now. If you're having problems with the Rift save yourself a lot of grief by testing the Rift on a friends computer, even if their computer recommended specs are a little low. I would have saved countless hours in driver searches, installs, new PCIe to USB3 controllers. Rift support was supportive, but you can wait a couple of days for an email reply. I also waited almost five days for an RMA shipping label, but I'm sure that process will get shorter soon, as I don't think they're support/returns department procedures was up to speed.
whitav8 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) New issue - I think. In the nighttime environment, when I go to an external view (mainly F2), I notice that it feels like I am looking through a "faceplate" that has a pattern of smudges on it. At first, I was afraid that I had some sort of "burn-in" from a constant image on my DK2 but I don't see anything like it all from the cockpit view. The "faceplate" image turns with my head - fixed in place - but I still see the outside view of the aircraft OK but through this fixed pattern. It might be there during the day, but I can see it only at night. Anybody else see this effect? @SkateZilla, Thanks for the tip on going fullscreen to maintain window focus - but it really shouldn't be required since that is not an issue with the 1.5.3 VR version - in fact, there the problem is to get your mouse cursor outside the DCS window to look at a webpage. After a month of CV1 and over four months of Gear VR, I'm still not jaded on VR. It might not have the same OMG wow factor as it did at first, but I still haven't gone back to the monitor at all. I've gotten pretty close to going back just to help learn the Gazelle and familiarize myself with the cockpit, but I can't bring myself to do it. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS

NeilWillis Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I'll need a new mobo, processor etc before I get my Rift. Are there any recommendations? I understand that the i5 4590 is the minimum recommended, but is there any mileage in going higher up the spec ladder? Cost is an issue.

SkateZilla Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I think the shipping delays are pretty much resolved, Oculus had Contracts to uphold with Retailers to provide kits for the "Oculus Ready PC Combos" etc. One Guy's Estimated Shipping Date was June, and he got his last week, never got a shipping notice though (he assumes it went to spam box) Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

whitav8 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 @Derek, Nope - I still have a DK2. Like I tried to say, I don't think it is a "burn in" image since I just can't see it at all in the daytime missions - but it might be - I haven't always turned the goggles off. It seems like it is maybe a couple feet away from the eyepoint and is nearly black but with dark fixed smudges - so it looks like a dark mesh screen. Please try the nighttime yourself and instead of being inside the cockpit, use F2 or whatever to get outside and carefully look. I didn't notice it right away. In the end run, not a big deal but I didn't notice it with earlier VR releases.
