As the title asked , I'm sure it is written someplace but in my original LOCK ON I have it, so why no terrain features such as cities and airports in that area as well as The Ukraine ?

It is an active theatre so it would be nice.

There were limitations on the number of objects that could be stored in the old DCS engine.

That meant that when the current portion of the map was populated, some other portion (Crimea) had to be 'de-populated'. The old terrain mesh was just left as it was.

The new engine in DCS doesn't suffer from the same issue, but E.D. may not be disposed to do the amount of work needed to add objects and high detail terrain mesh to a new large area of what is the perfectly functional existing FREE map.

Cheers.

ok Fair enough, however it is not free so let's stop tossing that around, I am an original LOMAC player and had to purchase the product I wanted. This is a money generating operation not some guy named Ed doing this because he loves it.

I would be willing to entertain a small fee to complete the existing map, how does everyone else feel?

Yea I would be willing to do the same but It might conflict with people that don't want to buy it and multilayer. But if it was cheap enough I'm sure 99% of people who play mp would buy it

I hope myself as well that the Crimea will be added later. I can remember the day it was deleted. I did not understand where that part of the map went haha. I think i searched forever for that rock with a hole in it so i could fly trough it. It took me half a year to realize they just ditched it because they added some more Georgian terrain at the expense of the Crimea.

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

I agree with everything that was said in favor of Crimea. Politics aside......what a great addition to the Black Sea map. Absolutely worth buying.

If memory serves me, it used to be in LOMAC and FC1 but not FC2/3. Since the caucasus map will be integrating into 2.5 sometime soon and the map is getting a bit of a revamp, I don't see why adding the crimea area would be a bad idea. Although it may take a bit of work.

It would be worth it though I really did like the crimea area when it was in the games.

there is a reconditioned Crimea map for DCS (more accurately: an extended Black sea map with parts of Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Armenia and Azerbaijan more) but unfortunately that's not available to the public momentarily

Crimea to me, is a blank canvas, upon which I can draw my own scenarios.

It's got mountains, valleys and plains, plus everything you need to make missions in the editor.

I use the plains as a weapons range, (special stores), valleys as cover to attack ships, etc, etc. It's great for helos and vehicles don't need roads. Make your own towns.

Nothing has been removed that I need, to have a great time in Crimea and it's so quiet.

That's a really good idea.

One interesting possibility is that, in forseeble future, we will be able to place sort of expeditionary runways on map, thanks to WW II project. Besides, we already have the ability to place FARPs, as well as buildings to create some pseudo towns.

So, while it may not exactly be ideal, it will be quite possible to extend opertaional area of map with Crimea, at least for aircraft that can operate from such runways as we will be able to place with that feature, as well as helos. Like Holbeach stated above, Crimea already has at least features like mountains, even some lakes, even if low poly ones.

This comes up once in a while, any update to the current black sea map is supported by me. I am up for anything between free upgrade, kickstarter & DLC. :)

Are you sure? I seem to remember that this was a measure to ensure that there was no copyright infringement versus the then publisher of LOMAC, Ubisoft.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

It would be great to have it back and extend the theatre a bit to allow more long range flights. I don't see why it would be so difficult since they already did it for the old Lock On, and honestly what changes have there been in terms of 3d models of buildings and such since Lock On? If they put it back exactly as it was it would already be a plus.

That was my interpretation of it as well. Also to do with the reason FC3 needed a copy of Lockon owned/installed for ages, even after FC3 was added to World.

Pretty sure that was the reason I read for the area limit on the populated area, and eliminating it was one of the advantages of the new engine.

it's free now - go to the download section and download DCS.

one free map, 2 free planes.

If you want other planes, you pay for those..
