Fred00 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 As the title reads, how many modules do you fly consistently? Just one? Two? More? Personally I've flown the A-10C as my main module for the last 18 months (when I first got into DCS). However I've also flown some Mig-21 and F-86 in between. Variety is quite nice since I don't want to fly the A-10C every time. The last couple of weeks I have realized that I want to fly more modern planes. The F-86 and Mig-21 are awesome but really hard to use effectively because of lack of modern navigation systems and avionics. DCS is already a hard game even with the more advanced systems offered in the more modern planes. Also I really want to focus on modules with high quality campaigns. I have decided to test the M-2000C as my 2nd module and then Leathernecks AJS-37 as my new 3rd module when it arrives. Three modules might be a bit much, especially with limited time for this hobby, but there are too many good modules coming! When the F-18 comes the A-10C will probably go in favor for it. Problem is I'm also interested in the F-14... So how do you think and what modules do you plan to focus on in the next 1-2 years?
ebabil Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 my main module is uh-1h. if this had other variants like rescue, fire, or had more weapons, most likely it would be my only module. but options are limited with huey. rest of the time i try to fly with other planes from mi-8 to su-27 and sometimes i use a-10c to drop some giant bombs in the future, i will make a-10c completely retired and use f-18 and f-14 only. but i don't think that my huey will ever be retired. firmek Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It's good to change the modules from time to time just for the sake of having some variety. There is more into it however. The main point in my view is getting more overall experience which can be later applied to any aircraft. Older planes (like TF-51, Mig-21) actually forced me to learn how to navigate and fly using the instruments. Just a simple maneuver as making a level turn can get interesting when has to be executed without HUD and FPM. In Mig-21 or Mi-8 navigating is engaging and requires much more understanding than just fallowing this dinky thing on HUD (which I forgot how it's called - tadpole?). I'm not saying to its not possible (actually should be done) to learn and understand concepts of aviation when flying A-10C but with all of the complex systems the focus in on learning how to set up and use them first. For those reasons I may (probably even should) end up buying a trainer someday :D I would also say that every module is different and can be enjoyed from other perspective. Obviously those are not the only reasons but I like A10 for powerful systems and being able to apply CAS tactics, Mi-8 for possibility to fly heli and having great flight model (I can fly it for hours without a need to blow up something – which Mi-8 is also fun to do with), Mig-21 for being maybe archaic but still probably the second most complex in DCS, M2000 for its relative simplicity etc.... Anyway I would say that every full fidelity modules in DCS is worth buying :D At least what I'm trying to do however once I get into a new module is to get proficient in it and spend as much time as possible without switching to the other aircraft. The only one wish that I would have is that the modules are more finished when released and don’t stay forever in beta with missing/not completed functionality, manual, campaigns, training missions. Also I'm looking forward for DCS Word to grow and have more content and environments to fly the modules in. For instance Mig-21 in 70's theater, with other ground and air units from the era. Flying with it against F-15 on DCS Unreal Tournament edition servers is just not a fun at all. PS: I would suggest to add a pool to the thread. F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. WinterH Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I fly most of the stuff I have (I have them all currently). Only C-101 is something I almost never fly, and I don't forsee this changing due to lack of progress on CC variant and EFM. Also the Mirage 2000, got it as an impulse buy on release, and while I enjoy it quite a bit early on, it wore off very quick and since a few months I only fly it like once a month or less. I also fly A-10C and most of the FC3 stuff very rarely, though, lately I did fly the Hog a bit. Primary module I fly most is probably MiG-21Bis. Remaining time is allocated between helicopters and old warbirds prop or Korea era, but I also fly L-39 and Hawk every now and then, try to do convoy attacks or dogfighting in them is quite fun actually. Also, unlike other FC3 stuff, I fly Su-25A with some frequency too. Devrim Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I confess: I have almost all modules. :D But I can't learn and be master on all aircrafts and system naturally. Whatever; Today, My main modules are helicopters; Ka-50, Huey, Mi-8 and Gazelle. I'm OK with their systems and weaponry. I also like A-10C and its modern systems compared FC3 or other planes. And, sometimes I like to fly TF-51 or Kürfürst. I uninstalled other modules... :\ Intel i7-14700@5.6GHz | MSI RTX4080 SuperSuprimX | Corsair V. 64GB@6400MHz. | Samsung 1TB 990 PRO SSD (Win10Homex64) Samsung G5 32" + Samsung 18" + 2x8"TFT Displays | TM Warthog Stick w/AVA Base | VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle | TM MFD Cougars | Logitech G13, G230, G510, PZ55 & Farming Sim Panel | TIR5 & M.Quest3 VR >>MY MODS<< | Discord: Devrim#1068
Fred00 Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 Thanks for the replies. What I have realized is that a good campaign is maybe the most important thing for a module. Therefore the fact that Baltic Dragon is doing the campaign for the M-2000C is a big plus. It's most likely going to be awesome. :-)
SVgamer72 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 My main module is the MiG-21bis, but I have recently spent a lot of time in the M2000-c and the L-39. I also jump into the Korean era jets and the WWII fighters when the mood hits me (I own almost all the modules) Too much good stuff.

agentdarnell Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Before Dec of last year I flew the fc3, a10c, f86 uh1, black shark, and mi8. Since then I have not been near a computer, but looking forward to the new modules I purchased and hope to get better on all of them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
QuiGon Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) I regularly fly the A-10C, MiG-21, UH-1, Ka-50, M2000, Bf-109, Fw-190 and P-51. I also fly the F-86 from time to time, but not as often as I would like, because of the lack of good MP servers for that (Can't wait for BlueFlag Korea :D). And sometimes, if the situation demands, I also jump into the F-15, but only if it's really necessary since I don't really like FC3. In the near future I will probably fly the AJS-37 Viggen a lot and further down the road the F/A-18 Hornet, F-14 Tomcat, Eurofighter Typhoon, Bo-105 and the Harrier. I will also give the F-5 a try although I'm not that much into it. It's getting kinda hard to not get confused with all the different cockpits and controls and it's not gonna get better :D Edited June 30, 2016 by QuiGon Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Ktulu2 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I'm efficient with the F-15, occasionally fly the Mirage. I have flown in all FC3 and the a10c and know the basics about those planes though I haven't flown in them in something like a year. As soon as the F18 comes out i'll mainly fly it, or maybe i'll still fly in the F15 just as much depending of the 18's A2A capacities. I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
StandingCow Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 A bunch, I try and rotate to keep fresh on all them. A-10C, KA-50 (still not great at this), Huey, F86, P-51, Mi-8, M-2000C (haven't flown it since early beta though), F-15C.... think that's all of them. Can't wait to add the F-18 and F-14 to that list. :) 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo

grunf Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I have more modules than the time to fly them I'm afraid. my usual routine is to pick up a module, start learning it, then I buy a new one, and so on. :D I do try to fly them all occasionally, although there are some that are sitting in a hangar for a long time. The only exception is MiG-21, which I fly the most and keep good proficiency level. Along with the MiG, I currently fly M2000, Gazelle, Sabre and Hawk, and these are the aircraft I could efficiently (more or less :D) fly the combat mission with. Except Hawk, which is my current general flying/acrobatics plane. I recently started to learn A-10C (bought it almost a year ago), but I'll most likely park it as soon as the F-5 comes along. :D
Exorcet Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Despite it being a FC3 module, the F-15 gets most of my time. There is no comparable DCS level modern fighter yet. When the F/A-18 hits it will be a lot of fun, but being a smaller, navalized, multirole plane, it still won't surpass the F-15. I still really hope for DCS F-15C to eventually hit. The F-14 might hold me over though. Second to the F-15, I really enjoy the F-86 and MiG-15. They are great for general flying and dogfighting. Sadly the AI and damage models need work, as they tend to make it very difficult to make immersive/fair missions. As a result, I mainly do quick head to head combat with these aircraft. The MiG-21 is a great module, but the plane itself isn't my favorite. I don't tend to like Russian cockpits and the way the plane feels at the controls just seems a bit off. I don't know what it is. One thing I really want for this module is some kind of AI GCI system. The F-5E will probably be my go to 60's/70's fighter though. The A-10C gets a fair amount of fly time, but I prefer air to air to ground attack, so I'm not totally proficient with it. The WWII fighters are great, but again AI issues can get away every now and then. I'm not up to date with the latest modules (trainers, M2000, etc) and have mostly sidelined them until they're developed a bit more (which may be now since I haven't been on DCS all that much). Lastly I have the helicopters, except Gazelle. Ka-50 is the best by far, but I don't use it terribly often. The UH-1 and Mi-8 I bought for flight physics. Never used them in combat. Buzzles Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Not owning pedals currently, my helicopter time is limited. Aside from that, the only one I don't take out frequently is the C-101. That will change once it gets its own AFM. I don't own all the modules though. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
Somnus Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I own all except the Gazelle and the C-101. I regularly fly the Su-27, MiG-21 and Ka-50. I started learning the A-10C but put that on hold for now. I've been flying the M-2000C lately too since it's my newest module. I like to fly the MiG-15 occasionally, and will probably start to learn the Bf-109 and/or Fw 190 soon since a friend is getting the P-51. I rarely touch the Hawk or L-39 right now, and I haven't spent any appreciable time besides maybe one or two quick flight in the other modules. The Su-27 is what I fly with my friend when we want to just jump in and zoom around shooting things. The MiG-21 is what my squadron flies most, and it's also tied for my most loved module. The Ka-50 was a surprise for me. I'd never had any interest in helicopters, but wanted a change from the MiG and I quickly fell in love with it. I've probably done the most SP in that module. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
M460 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 In my case it would come down to the operation requirements. Mostly Uh-1h, Ka-50, SU-25a, Mig 29s. Mig 21 and Gazelle recently purchased and loving them.. #I've been dreaming about an unlicensed version of the MIG-31... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
travisiniraq Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I own the KA50, FC3 P51 f86 a 10c, I have only been DCSing for about 4 months though. right now my go to if I want a quickie is the F-15 but after that it as to be the A 10. I would love to start doing some online gaming but after watching some online missions I very much feel like a rookie.
