Are you sure that it was through the radio you heard them and not Teamspeak? Easy to forget to disable MIC and SPEAKER in TS :music_whistling:

Guys,

I have encountered an issue with SR using the Gazelle.

SR radio server up and working, SR client connected

jump into a Gazelle, The VHF AM Radio panel shows a freq of 124.000 Mhz

looking at the SR Overlay it shows 124.000MHz as expected,

Chaging the frequency by middle rolling the mouse over the left dial to say 125.000 doesnt update the SR Overlay, nothing i do on this radio updates the SR Overlay, so all people are stuck on FRQ 124.000AM for ths radio

We flew last night with soley SR, bloody awesome, love the direction and the functionality of this project, keep up the good work chaps.

All other Radios in the pit work perfectly.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks

Mith

Hi Ciribob,

Please, could this feature be disabled by default for the clients in CA slots?

Reason is that they are usually doing GCI or ground based FAC duties.

For example: The ground based FAC would be in a command car / hummer outfitted with a SINCGARS (or the older AN/VRC-12 set plus the AN/PRC-113 and -117 just to make sure he has the whole range covered) and several receivers, each of them with their own separate antennas (typically 2 to 3 receivers).

With each receiver having a separate antenna there is no distortion. The FAC uses the one transceiver to jump between the various frequencies he needs to transmit on.

Cheers!

It's not implemented yet - That setting is just a place holder but yes I'll make it like that then. Thanks! :)

Did you set the VHF radio to Manual Mode? By default its in Automatic (?) so you changing the numbers doesn't make a difference :)

Look from the Co-pilot seat and you'll see it much more easily.

thanks for the reply Ciribob, i will test tonight, i had been looking for a switch to click from the pilots seat, no wonder i couldnt see it.

Can i also make a request to get some sort of overlay in the rift please mate? please no rush as i know you have your life and stuff to do mate

a single bar at the top of the screen would be amazing.

thanks Mithandra

I believe the distortion should only take place if you hear two transmissions on the same radio (i.e. the same frequency). There should be no distortion when listening to two separate radio transmissions on separate frequencies. Having a separate transmitting antenna should also have no effect on this.

So working with two or more radios should not cause you any trouble even with the distortion enabled.

Ciribob, can you confirm that's the way the system will be created? Just to be clear about the function of the distortion.

If someone wants to donate a Rift or Vive i'll take a look... :P Otherwise not sure how I can actually solve this as I've no idea what the overlay looks like in the Rift.

I must've misunderstood ViFF.

With the Real Rx Option enabled server-side, when it's implemented, you will only hear distorting on a single radio if that radio on that frequency receives two transmissions at the same time as you describe.

The plan is to give AWACS / JTAC / GCI 8 Radios and if they're all on different frequencies you'd be able to hear all 8 at the same time with no distortion.

Xcom and I did some testing last night and managed to reproduced the stutter bug again... so I'm going to investigate that before doing any new features or changes as it really needs to be solved. Thought I had! :(

Ok, did another latency test locally (2 clients connected to the server) and it got a lot better. I think it was roughly a second in a previous release but now it's 0.3 - 0.4 seconds. That's probably close to or even better than TS :)

Do you think you could ommit the chat message 'This server is running...'? I've been trying to keep the chat as clean as possible and this awesome radio project is already mentioned in the server description and in the briefing plus the autoConnect is enabled. Or maybe just keep it on the playerConnect event, already tried remarking 2 lines in the script on the server but then the autoConnect no longer worked.

Thank you!

E: Maybe make it report the version number on connect, so players know exactly which one to get/use.

Another idea perhaps, i think Aries does the same but pretty aggressive, after clicking the radio overlay DCS no longer has focus resulting in 'WTF?!? My controls aren't responding!!!'. If you could set the focus back to DCS maybe after 2 or 3 seconds that might be cool.

Channel I and II of the Bf -109 are not working, they are showing the same frequency for both. Only III and IV are ok. Last version .

Better explanation.

@UF_Winterz yes you can set the server app ip to home and players joining connect to via your public ip,

also the server does not need to be on a machine with DCS can be anything & anywhere you want it.

I'll have a look at reducing it but having the connect message sent only on player connect wasn't very reliable unfortunately. Might be able to filter the message out if the player is connected.

Version number - I really need to implement a proper protocol version so that you can't connect to an incompatible version. Will look at adding the version to the connect message.

Handing back focus I did have in a while ago but it was too aggressive handling back. Will look at adding it back in with a delay, good idea! :)

Glad the latency is improved - I tested with a remote teamspeak server side by side and it did actually beat teamspeak by a hair

TeamSpeak? What's that.. we got SimpleRadio now :)

Yeah once a player is connected he wouldn't need to see the server message anymore.

I think with the focus you can reset a timer on either getting focus on the overlay or one of the controls on the overlay. Maybe also check if DCS is the 2nd in line in Z-order of windows when returning focus back to DCS in case someone was checking his email during flight or something.

AutoConnect works fine Ciribob but can you add a choice on the client to accept the autoConnect silently with no user action? Maybe with a sound saying you changed to the other server.

We had the same bug. When talking via interphone, the second Gazelle could hear everything.

Both Gazelles were in the same group.

I think I've tracked down the bug and its a silly mistake as they usually are! Depending on time I'll do a testing release tonight that should fix it.

It'll also include a fix for when the overlay is displayed, the taskbar doesn't disappear even when DCS has focus which was reported on GitHub

I'll add that to the list, its been requested by others as well. Glad to hear the auto connect is working!

Can this be a thing we can integrate with Discord?

You mean like use Discord or TeamSpeak or XYZ VoIP solution to speak to one another in the lobby and when in DCS Simple Radio only emulates the DCS radio connections?

Yep, already in... :D

Is there a way to transmit on say a VHF and UHF at the same time? This would be great for ATC type ops.

Hold down both push to talk buttons or mapping both radios to the same PTT key.

Glad to hear the auto connect is working!

Yes it is working fine. Actually I would like to change my request slightly and say that I want it to auto-connect when joining the DCS server and auto-disconnect when leaving the server. It would then be easy for any server operator to set up SRS and have connecting clients joining in on the Radio fun!!! :)

Oh cool, I was afraid that doing something like that would cause a spontaneous formation of a black hole in my living room.

As you might've realised, this is the only 3rd party software for DCS that DOESN'T require teamspeak or other voip softwares. The point is exactly to keep you from needing to fiddle around with multiple versions while playing the game. I don't know if any DCS-radio software is bound with discord, but many use teamspeak (such as the previous DCS-SimpleRadio, which required TS to work).

The less programs we need simultainously WHILE FLYING the better.

Hi Ciribob,

did you manage to test out your fixes ?

This has really added another level to our flying and immersion factor, especially mixed helo flights.
