Raven68 Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) I think they mean the speed of development... (but then like you I ask - "why ?") In all honesty that question truly can't be answered here in these forums for fears of warning or ban. There were expectations for a lot of things by now, but relatively speaking things are still quiet. :dunno: Edited July 2, 2016 by Raven68 1 Intel i5-9600K @ 3.7GHz; Gigabyte Z370XP SLI Mobo; G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4080 16GB 256-Bit GDDR6; Thermaltake Water 3.0 Certified Liquid Cooling System Windows 11 Professional Pimax Crystal Light /TrackIR 5 in case VR dies; Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog w/ Thrustmaster T-Flight Rudder Pedals
Gliptal Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Are you looking into the A-10C lighting problem? It was reported more than a week ago and there's no indication you're even aware of the issue.

There were expectations for a lot of things by now, but relatively speaking things are still quiet. :dunno: I think you're getting a little paranoid. No one is getting banned for justifiable criticism or fair comment. As for the bugs that have been introduced with the latest updates, it is all due to the VR requirements, and you certainly can't fault ED for embracing the new technology as we already have the best of all game environment for VR in DCS World. It is unfortunate that Track IR has suffered a few setbacks, but they have already stated that they have a fix and we'll see it soon. Having introduced an entirely new graphics engine, new map, and all the issues that raises, I don't think we have a lot to complain about this year. Of course there are a a lot of areas that still need, and will get, attention, but when the merger between 1.5 and 2.0 comes along, I am sure we'll soon see all the other issues addressed. Don't expect miracles!

msalama Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 for fears of warning or ban Ummm... no. But if you try to lead folks to believe you _know_ why things are in a certain way, or start to demand ED to do what _you_ think they should be doing, then I'd guess you'll get burned pretty sharpish. But asking questions and/or presenting critique in a civilized manner? No problem whatsoever, at least from what I've seen so far. So chill ;) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. There were expectations for a lot of things by now, but relatively speaking things are still quiet. :dunno: As people have said, we dont ban people for asking in a mature manner. I think the biggest thing right now is what was needed to make the old map compliant with the new mapping system. And with that, and what they have had to do, they decided to do a lot more to the old map than they had originally planned. I cant say more than that, but you guys shouldnt be dissapointed. As for modules like the F/A-18, if you have seen the live streams of Wags, you know they are in DCS, you should alos know ED doesnt give any sort of dates or guesstimates any more, we see how some people take those as written and stone, then go to those 'other forums' and cry about missing delivery dates like they were 'promised'. Just know that everything is proceeding nicely, look at DCS WWII, we keep getting surprised at how far they are. Just need patience and realize ED doesnt give out that much info, not because they arent progressing, but that's just how they do tings. That means two things for me a) inclusion of Crimea, and b) a total overhaul of not only the mesh (mountains, ridges, etc), but also bringing up town and airport details to NTTR level - since EDGE can handle it. Again, only my speculation (wishful thinking, really), and nothing official. :music_whistling: PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com

But when I look at the northern part of the map in the mission editor and notice all those NDBs right in the middle of (currently) nowhere that weren't there just a few months ago ... hrm....
rrohde Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Good point, Flagrum. But when I look at the northern part of the map in the mission editor and notice all those NDBs right in the middle of (currently) nowhere that weren't there just a few months ago ... hrm.... To be fair, a large part of the time for NTTR from what I've gleaned from various places was actually the behind the scenes redevelopment of the terrain engine, the gfx engine, and the tooling to build maps for the new terrain engine. SoH had pictures way way back showing a lot of art assets had been done, but in the end of Jan 2016 Newsletter, there was a line about upgrading it to the T5 terrain engine. I suspect the reason why Black Sea (and 2.5) is taking a while is what was originally going to be a port has instead seen it become a testbed for T5 while ED continue to build up their codebase and make things better. I'd imagine once they've got a solid base, actual map development will be pretty quick in comparison as it's mostly art assets and terrain data. Suits me fine though, I'd rather wait and have ED do their magic behind the scenes so I can have lots of cool stuff in the future, than have something a bit rubbish now. StandingCow Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I was really happy to hear the amount of work going into the free default map for a few reasons. - First impressions. this is the first map a lot of people see when they play and watch streamers/youtubers play. - Lessens the impact of segregating the community between different maps in the MP realm. More people will be happy playing the default map since it will be just as high quality as the paid for ones. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo

ED Team NineLine Posted July 2, 2016 ED Team Posted July 2, 2016 Nice to hear. I'd still like to see a bit more feedback on bugs and such though. I mean, as a simple user it's not that annoying, but imagine being a campaign or mission builder. But again, its Open Beta. I know some of these sneak through to release, but as much as it sucks to say, its part of the world we live in, the sandbox. Most times, when the bug blocks gameplay, it gets priority, it doesnt mean its easy to fix. I see Yo-Yo, c0ff and others commenting all the time, the comment on issues and problems the best they can, but its not so easy to simply say what is wrong and how long it will take to fix. And if they do say something, and it doesnt happen exactly in the time frame they stated or guessed, they hear about it. It's certainly a double edged sword most times, damned if you damned if you dont. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

Some bug reports are missing official comments or the "REPORTED" tag, and I don't know if it's because they already know, they haven't seen the thread, or they don't care at the moment.
ED Team NineLine Posted July 2, 2016 ED Team Posted July 2, 2016 I'm not expecting a "yes we will fix it" by any means, but rather a "yes we're aware". Some bug reports are missing official comments or the "REPORTED" tag, and I don't know if it's because they already know, they haven't seen the thread, or they don't care at the moment. Yes, I would like more people that have the power to, to change the titles to reported, but its not actually policy, something more so I have asked some to do, some do, some dont. Again, its a bit of a double edge sword. People get grumpy when they see reported, and its been reported for a long time, not all understand that it can be a priority thing, or some other issue holding a fix back. So I do see on one hand why its helpful to change, I can see from some at ED why they dont want to or dont bother. A number of our testers though, me included will cruise the bug sections making sure that things are reported, etc. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Pocket Sized Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 1.5.4 Appreciation? From what I've seen, not many people seem to realize just how great 1.5.4 is. The problem is most of the changes are under the hood and hard to notice. Easiest way to see how much it's improved is to play a few hours on the beta and then switch back to 1.5.3... chances are it won't take long to go back. Summary: 1. New sounds. In the cockpit, it no longer sounds like the engine is being shoved into your ear. There's wind noise (which changes with AoA!), ground roll, buffeting, etc. The wind noise really gives the impression you're moving through a substance, rather than magically floating around. 2. Overall stability. I've had many cases where I'm doing a long flight in 1.5.3 only to have it cut short by a game freeze or crash. Worst feeling in the world. I'm not saying 1.5.4 never crashes. But you'll find a massive decrease in the number of crashes/freezes while flying. 3. Servers no longer accept inaccurate position/velocity data for aircraft. Instead, it uses the last known position/velocity and holds the aircraft there until good data is received. This is HUGE. Instead of warping 20 miles back and fourth during lag, planes will continue in a straight line until the lag ceases, after which they will move to the correct position (usually not too far away). This means you don't have to worry about parking too close to somebody while rearming/refueling. You'll never lose the lead aircraft during lag. The tanker will never freak out and kill everyone trying to refuel. Am I exaggerating how good this update is? Am I late to the party? 1 DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
Texac Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Indeed. 1.5.4 was a great update! Yesterday I was able to take a look at the Mulitplayer and it makes much more fun to fly in formation now or refuel with others in the air. I had a lot of fun watching our flight with the Replay function which finally works now! There are probably a lot of great changes within 1.5.4 and I really like the new update! Together with Starways Textures I had a lot of fun watching at Caucasus landscapes. Great work on that ED! - My Skins/Liveries - Improved F-16C Texture Template • Texac on YouTube •

Pikey Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Indeed. It was a pretty big one @OP, it was slightly jaded by a lot of view problems and the feeling in our group was that we were excited by the changes but also tiring of the testing in equal measure. I never really got to test the multiplayer changes as not one server on OB was carrying enough players to really see if there was any warping, but I'm stoked to see if it has any major effect on Blue Lag. DCS is the tease that never ends, it's a completely original "marketing strategy" that has me hooked!! :) Hopefully it gets pushed to stable this weekend! ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
