Dana 152mm SPG, Merkava IV tank, 3M54e and 3M54e1 submarine laucher antiship missiles added, Mi-8 door Gunners, Spitfire MkIX pilot (not textured), RPK-500 bomb :) and more

I'll ask again, does anyone know the context of his post?

Items left out of the 1.5.5 changelog? Stuff that's planned for 2065? Things we aren't getting this century?

Am I the only one at least a bit interested?

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

New 3d models:

Mil Mi-8 side and aft gunner, Pilot RAF

OK that's a step in the right direction :D

But they're not functioning in any form, right? Just there so they're ready when the code controlling them is added?

I always compare DCS: World Release vs Beta / Alpha version or New versions by Modelviewer to check any ED and 3rd party EDM new or updated 3rd models into the simulator. All has include actualy into the simulator (active or on hold). Check the Unofficial Roadmap.

*Ahem*

Did they add Mi-8 door gunners in 1.5.5

First thing I've just checked after reading about it. Looks like there are no gunners yet, but some interface is being prepared for this feature, for example new controls - switching to gunner position plus a bunch of AI-gunner-related keys to assign.

Earlier released new MiG-29A model got 5 new skins. New Wingflex animations, builtin afterburner flame model with textures, normal maps on airframe, taxi/landing lights and new fuselage external fuel tank.

(gear damage models, correct compressor + turbine blades and correct mach-ramps, intake grates, LERX louvres and nozzle animations still missing)

IF it's not updating try this -

Open your DCS World OpenBeta\bin folder. Shift + rightclick anywhere in the folder, select Open command window here.

This will open cmd. Type dcs_updater.exe update and press enter.

Or use Skatezillas awesome launcher found here >> https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

It is, the problem is that after the update the module manager won't load, nor the mission editor. Things are off with the options and keybindings as well. I reverted to 1.5.4 and currently redownloading the whole update. Thanks god for fiber connections.

OK... so, yeah... updated the OB to v1.5.5 and something MASSIVE seems to have happened to the rendering engine. Neither positive nor negative per se, even FPS-wise, but things just look... different. And I'm not talking about the GUI either.

WTH? What's your take?

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Care to elaborate more? Any screenshots?

Not sure if screenshots do it any justice, or even show what I mean. Are you running the OB yourself by any chance?

Not yet, having problems. I'll give a look as soon as they're solved.

I don't see anything strange or different. It sort of feels a bit sharper, but I'm sure it's just placebo effect.

Any precise feeling you're having I can reliably test?

A side by side photo comparison from 1.5.4 to 1.5.5 would be nice

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Msalama, You sure You didn't forget to turn terrain mods back on :D? Anyway, haven't noticed anything unusual to be honest, although we've got new terrain shadows option now ("off"), so maybe they did change something in "default" and "flat" as well and this is what caught Your eye.

Back to the Mi-8 topic for a second, I was completely surprised to see an option for removal of clamshell doors, and less surprised, but glad to see full animations of both rotor and tail prop implemented at last. The patch was massive, so I guess it contains many more features not mentioned in the changelog.

Missed that option. What does it do exactly?

Which one, 'cause I mentioned two? :D

About terrain shadows, no idea. Switching this option, I was looking for changes in appearance of forests and towns, haven't noticed any, at least none really apparent. I'd guess they might be visible in mountains, though, as we're progressing towards a mix of dynamic and fake, "baked" mountain shadows, as on Nevada map.

Would have to do some flying and testing, but don't intend to do so, as with my not-so-powerful computer, I'll leave it at "flat" or "off" anyway to maximize performance. I'll wait for guys with better rigs to make comparison screenshots.
