DCS World Weekend News Update Discussion

I am so glad I took every Friday off for the rest of the year and a few weeks as well this coming holiday season. Even though I work from home and have access to 'check stuff out' during work hours it would be hard to focus right now...45% dl'd and taking it's sweet time.

Did anyone else notice the glare from various glass sources in the promo for the map expansion?

It looks like grass on Caucasus 2.5 WIP screenshots, just in yellow-sandy colour.

My hope is that they added pillars that support bridges, and shadows that are also cast on bridges (instead of beneath them), continuous power lines, improved LOD for the power generators that used to pop-up only moments before one would pass them, more than only gray colored cars on the roads (up until now, all non-gray cars were only parking), etc. Stuff like that... :)

Of course, totally looking forward to the new NTTR map. Cannot wait!

1) Nope, road bridges still seem to 'float'. without supporting pillars, and shadows of crossing cars are cast underneath. The "spaghetti bowl' looks especially bad in that regard of shading (even though I only checked with flat terrain shadows enabled). :(

2) Power lines in areas where they were disconnected (e.g., west of LV Strip) are still untouched. :(

3) Didn't check.

4) Only gray cars are allowed to drive still; red and yellow cars are only parking... Also, dual-lane highways still have oncoming traffic on both sides... :(

However, seems a lot more details popping up left and right, new textures, grassy areas, perimeter fences around airports and construction sites, etc (even though the look of the fence textures seems to be of a lesser quality than the surrounding textures), beautifully detailed new airfields. Overall, great update!

Oh, and super smooth frame rates - seems to be a tad more optimized now.

The performance is really better now. Everything on max, even view range, and I never get below 60fps. Not even with mustangs cloud mod.

Thanks ED!! I love an early Christmas present. There goes those jobs around the house I had planned.

Is there a list anywhere of the of the new airfields, location, runway headings, tower frequencies, nav aid frequencies etc.?

Not even a picture? :( lol

Most of the Map is Desert..

But there are patches around airfields, and in the suburbs..

Pretty sure I'm not the only one who would love to see what the F10 map looks like zoomed out with all the airfields. :music_whistling:

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

Probably caused by the large size and the fact that everyone is downloading it at the same time. I should be around 4 MB/s, but it was stuck at around 1 MB/s last time I checked.

Unplayable with Oculus... Framerate >10 :(

Check Nvidia drivers. Last version is buggy and causes fps drops especially on 1060, 1070 and 1080.

Try if an older driver can fix it.

It's not a driver issue. Many people have tried other drivers already - same result.

Ok, I have Nevada key, but was waiting for the proper merged release (2.5?) to use it. Now that 2.5 was pushed to 2017 and we got the NTTR update today, I would like to install this 2.0 alpha.

Can I use my modules in 1.5 and 2.0 in parallel without spending another activation?

It's great that they updated the terrain and airports BUT it is totally unplayable now for VR Worst hit to my frame rates since I was running a GTX 295!!! I think it is a combination of the new Oculus 1.10 runtime and the Nvidia drivers? The ASW function of Oculus is totally screwed up in DCS.
