SkateZilla Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Are you guys kidding me? Therer´s no update...and yes, I have tried the solutions provided above already before posting here such like this one: will this update be published in waves (which would pretty uncommon for ED actually)? I tried this for DCS World 2 and DCS World 2 open Alpha...which is the actual one which should have been updated. Any ideas? DCSWorld 1.5 Open Beta Not Release, Not Alpha Missed that option. What does it do exactly? Default is Ground Rendering Shadows I Believe FLAT is Baked Shadows Off is OFF Clamshell doors off is the Doors on the back of the MI8 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Phantom453 Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Hopefully in this release for the Mi-8 there should be a whole new selection of cargo types you can sling underneath and working wipers as well.
MemphisBelle Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 (edited) DCSWorld 1.5 Open Beta Not Release, Not Alpha oha, so it´s no miracle that I cant update if I even not have 1.5 open Beta installed  :megalol:  Edited November 4, 2016 by MemphisBelle BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
BavarianPilot Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Love the bumbing wings on the F5 while taxiing. And the clickable radios such a great feature for the vr pilots as well. I love it :joystick: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.spare-time-pilots.de Twitch BavarianPilot Youtube BavarianPilot
Torso Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 OK... so, yeah... updated the OB to v1.5.5 and something MASSIVE seems to have happened to the rendering engine. Neither positive nor negative per se, even FPS-wise, but things just look... different. And I'm not talking about the GUI either. WTH? What's your take? Rift user here. I wish I could provide a scrnshot but I agree there is a huge difference in the color/sat or something after update. I actually am happy because I always felt in VR things got a bit washed out vs monitor. But the second I loaded into hangar menu I immediately said to myself 'whoa, an undocumented change?' So I just wanted to provide my take and agree with Msalama..some overall rendering change has taken place.
Phantom453 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Like the new clickable radio menu. I see you can only access the radio menu while in the air and both the radio and communications menu while on the ground. Nice Is than new?? Can also now adjust volume & helmet volume effect in game (same as adjusting key bindings from Esc menu).
Phantom453 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 I have to ask - has the new terrain relief mesh resolution been applied?? Has been a while since I've played on the Caucasus map and terrain seems much smoother. I'm not sure. some places I would say yes, others not sure? Could be placebo.

Terrain Mesh Resolution increase is w/ Caucasus T4, Which wont be released until 2.5 at least. msalama Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 some overall rendering change has taken place. I replied to another post and said it was probably just placebo, but then deleted said reply, because I want to re-check this when I have more time. Meanwhile, anyone else noticing any differencies or was I just talking out of my rear end there? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Meanwhile, anyone else noticing any differencies or was I just talking out of my rear end there? Yes, can't put my finger on it but I've removed other terrain mods and am now running with ED's only as I find it more satisfying compared to before. I'm sure it won't be long before someone with experience will come along and provide the details yay on nay.
cthulhu68 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Do top edges of mountains look different? I remember hearing terrain resolution change would improve the detail there noticeably.
joey45 Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 With 2.5 The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. NeilWillis Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 I think any such terrain update would have been mentioned in the change log. Clearly, we're still waiting for 2.5 for the terrain mesh and map updates we have been told to expect. There wasn't anything in 1.5.5 in that regard.

Phantom453 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Wouldn't be the first time changes don't make it into the changelog. Very true!
probad Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 the update size would have to be heftier than this if there were real terrain changes. would be refreshing if you guys based your speculation on logic instead of your personal interests for once
MemphisBelle Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Wouldn't be the first time changes don't make it into the changelog. it surly happend already, but it must'nt happen actually. Because this would make the reason for a changelog itself unnecessary. A changelog is not just a phrase with a couple of words that sound nice. Its a brief description of what has definately changed in a certain Softwareversion up to a certain level of development and the enduser can expect this to be valid and not left alone with "it could be". Art-J Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Well, the changes mentioned in the 1.5.5 OB changelog are there for sure (at least I hope they are, because I recall one old exception when that wasn't the case :) ), so fortunately it's not "could be" category per se. However, once again, there are bunch of changes not mentioned in the log (flying my favourites - warbirds, Korean birds and Mi-8, for the first time I actually stumbled upon more undocumented changes than documented ones :D). So it seems to be a DCS-tradition of each changelog being an "introduction to changes, with some stuff to discover yourself", rather than a valid record. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

So probad, exactly what size would the update need to be just to update just the map terrain relief mesh (a.k.a. just the map mesh - not textures)? Edited November 6, 2016 by Phantom453
