I have been playing DCS ever since the LOCK ON (or Lock Up back then), so a long time. I find servers just as boring now as I do then. I mean server are freaking boring. I can't spend more that 10 minutes in one. There is no rhyme or rhythm to them. Most of the time you join in and the "mission" is half way through and everything seems like a gong show. As well what do people really do? They take off, point the plane towards where the enemy is and they shoot a missile at each other and see who's missile hits. BORING!!! There needs to be more tactics to it. Like a single player campaign but with multiplayer. If you choose a squadron, you have a mission, keep to it! Nope people just do what they want.

What there needs to be is tactics. Also risk. Something in the neighborhood like a point system. so lets say you have 10 planes on your team. Lets say 2 of them are A10s. If that A10 team sets out on their mission and successfully completes it that team gets 500 points. If you wander off your mission and just feel like doing whatever you get 0 points. But if you lose an A10, a replacement will cost you 300 points. Until you replace it, that pilot that got shot down will just have to sit and wait until he has a plane he can fly. Anyways, something along those lines. That way there is risk. You don't just take off like a twit and go shoot whatever you feel like. Otherwise you don't help the team out by acquiring points and you risk getting shot down and sitting out a while until your team can buy another plane for you to fly. This way DCS will have some strategy that is forced upon you and when there is a risk to getting shot down (sitting out a while) it makes you play the game smarter. Just like watching a sports game. Its always better to watch if you bet money.

I am just ranting because I feel DCS is pretty stagnant because the lack of fun involved. I don't know if the devs ever thought about doing something like this but IMO it would enhance the multiplayer gameplay immensely. Its never any fun when there is no goal....or should I say a goal that takes organization and strategy. Any tool can jump in a plane and shoot at something.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Blue Flag, look it up.

I second that, BLUE FLAG is probably what you are looking for. its almost like a dynamic campaign where you have to work together with others(CAS, SEAD, CAP, helos....ect) to complete strategic objectives to help your side win the overall war, resources matter, and you only get a limited amount of lives, and if you have a live human controlled JTAC....its a whole new world. so people tend to fly a little different....and a lot less like COD. And if you get shot down, you better pray that there will be some brave helo pilot who is willing to go into the line of fire to save your ass, so you can get back into the action and go make a difference. S@&*t gets real out there.

Aren't some posts BORING! I mean, like, we need more interesting posts that say exactly what i want them to say.

I can't be bothered enlisting into a virtual squadron, cuz, like, that's just boring, even if they would provide exactly what I want in the way of interesting posts and missions that start when I show up and stuff.

Man, life sucks doesn't it? I mean, wow, it would be so cool if everyone stopped doing what they liked, and just did stuff so my life was perfect!

You probably haven't tried Blue Flag from Buddy Spike.

Here is the web based gadget showing the current state of the war. http://gadget.buddyspike.net/

That's just one of the many cool features from the BS team. Speaking of cool things, get Simple Radio. Same place.

Failing that, try the 104th and Open Conflict. Both are my standard Go-To's when BF is in between rounds (now).

If WWII is your thing - there are a couple servers out there for that. I don't know - or care - about WWII planes, but hey, it's there.

Now, stop your cry. Slot up.

If you want to enjoy DCS find people to play with. It's like arma in the sense that it's trash on your own and there's literally like 1 good server maybe

''Fun'' doesn't really fit with ''simulator''... The most boring part of DCS are some IA behaviour and... FC-3 planes... So tired of those simplifed systems and flight model planes

There's more to the sim than clicking switches.

The fun is in executing an idea, completing an objective, in an environment that doesn't want you to.

You don't necessarily need an ASM to do that.

Chief I'm looking forward to you making missions and providing a server to remedy these problems you presented! :)

Stuge, what I suggested would have to be implemented by the devs. It's simply could not be done by making a mission. Not sure you understand what I had in mind.

If it wasnt fun, I wouldnt play/buy into it. Not sure I get that statement at all.

We just have a different definition of ''fun''.. For me ''funny'' games are the ones in which i can start in a minute or less, without reading 600 pages manuals and training again again and again to understand a system.

I mean i take a great pleasure with DCS, Falcon 4 BMS or some X-Plane 10 add-ons, but i dont qualify them ''funny''.

As BIGNEWY said, the ''fun'' in DCS/F4BMS is more given by community and freinds rather than the sim itself. (i think)

definitions of fun differ wildly yes

heres the thing though, op. you seem to think everything depends on devs coding. the fact is because a game requires player input, the player plays as much a role in the outcome as the coding itself.

if we threw dcs players into actual airplanes it would be just as much of a shitshow because its all got to do with the respective players own decisionmaking. they decide they dont want to take the time to read the manual, they decide they dont want to take the time to set up a more favorable engagement, they decide to ripplefire their aams.

you can't social engineer the lazy out of lazy people.

Surely the only definition here is enjoying yourself, if you ain't doing that then what are you doing.

I would even say that this(DCS) is so "small" a community that if you just start hanging out with people on TS soon enough you will have fun, friends, nemesis, enemies-light and learn ALOT about how to be effective/have fun :D

Oh the feeling when you hit Sweeper with a ET is some of the most fun and challeging objective you can have. Just Imagine his face(The ONE time I actually didi it )

And as mentioned on page one, try BlueFlag. The current setup might not be the best but they constantly change the mission and improve on the design of their multiplayer campaign. Pretty much everything that is described in the OP happens in BlueFlag one way or another.
