I have looked to see if this has already been posted but can find no thread relevant, when we drop troops off in the huey the troops can often run into the tail boom and just snap it off. This can be overcome to a certain extent by hovering to insert infantry but more difficult especially under fire.

I should mention this is using CTLD however they are still ED infantry.

You can edit a line in the CTLD.lua to drop troops in a wider circle around the helicopter, avoiding colissions.

 

Look for this lines:

 

if _spawnBehind == false then

 

-- spawn in circle around heli

 

local _pos = _point

 

for _i, _detail in ipairs(_details.units) do

 

local _angle = math.pi * 2 * (_i - 1) / #_details.units

local _xOffset = math.cos(_angle) * 30

local _yOffset = math.sin(_angle) * 30

 

_group.units[_i] = ctld.createUnit(_pos.x + _xOffset, _pos.z + _yOffset, _angle, _detail)

end

 

else

 

local _pos = _point

 

--try to spawn at 6 oclock to us

local _angle = math.atan2(_pos.z, _pos.x)

local _xOffset = math.cos(_angle) * -30

local _yOffset = math.sin(_angle) * -30

 

Where you see i´ve changed the value to 30 and -30, you can change it to a higher number and test it.

Thanks for the hint, the problem is rather when they start going after their business, and start running in whichever direction. Also if you fly and land with other helos in formation around you, other helo's troops embarking can kick your tail down too. Would be nice, but I'm not sure your suggestion would help in this case?

It's not only troops, I also had a few SAM vehicles drive into my Hip in BF after enabling the SAM site.

Yeah, but physically this is not as unrealistic, as troops tearing off helicopter tail. Your question is rather why they drive into you, our question is why is an (AI) person enabled to break it off? We wouldn't care if they would headbutt themself out cold, but leaving the helo intact...

You can disable the "run against enemies" in the CTLD. So when you drop them they stay in a wide circle instead of running.

 

Also you can drop them and take off inmediatly, ala "Vietnam"

You can select the "Pilot Can control Vehicles", and make them move where you want, change ROE, etc, while flying.

 

Or use a friend as CA.

 

For me the best is edit the lua for a wider drop circle and take off inmediatly after the drop.

Thanks for all the workarounds but please lets not get into discussing the finer points here. It is a bug I would really love to see addressed and not dismissed because of filling the thread with discussion:)

Of course is a bug, no one denies that. But in the meantime there are ways to workaround it and enjoy droping grunts.

same problem with ATME helo rescue script. it's a DCS bug for a long time

troops, break the helo once spawned around....AI troops should not be blind.

looking at your video : as a spectator it is ... quite a funny vid. after superman ...now SUPERinsurgents !

 

...but it's so frustrating in games and MP Missions.

 

it should be a priority bug to resolve for sure.
