Anyone noticed this F-16 model?

It seems like it is a new 3D F-16 model? :D

How can you tell?

is it me, or is it a static model?

*Very* likely.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

It is obvious. Look at these canopies, light effects, nozzles, texture quality...

This is the current model.

Looks like the canopies show the early bug with reflective textures being solid with no alpha/transparency.

The rest is most likely "placebo" from the new shaders first implementation.

Just my 2 cent. :dunno:

ED has some work done for an eventual DCS F-16 for several years. The model might be part of this. We even got a few pictures on the forums. Whatever they advance for full production or not (has stopped giving news about it) we dont know.

There is "HR" code on the tail of that models.

But in DCS there is no such a skin.

I have also seen this: "Other aircraft are in development such as the F-16, F/A-18, and AH-64"

http://thebattlesim.com/

I know it is a different sim by ED. But according to this site DCS has every released modules on TBS. So it is a quite possible F-16 and AH-64 are planning for DCS.

Interesting, yet I doubt ED could contract an F-16 for DCS, they might have done one for TBS, the military product, but there were vivid discussions about a lot of things the military simulator has, and DCS has not, and may never get.

For example, Combined Arms is basically a rework of a functionality in the ANG trainer to train JTAC and Artillery support. It was accidentally in the A-10C Beta for one patch cycle, but was not contracted for DCS so subsequently removed.

ED later built Combined Arms with "similar" functionality... Can't say if they got an agreement with the military or did a complete rework from scratch.

Doesn't matter anyway, the canopy reflections, definitely look like the old reflection map bug with 0 alpha value.

That was with the Nevada map first or second alpha release, if I remember correct.

TLDR:

I won't get too excited about a texture or model, just as it is an F-16. They tweaked the Nevada map and objects quite a bit over time, to optimize performance and not every texture, hires model, detail might make it into a final release... :dunno:

Taking their time with it tho.:pilotfly:

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

If they're actually working on an F-16 for TBS, then it shouldn't be a problem to just copy the model to DCS and replace the old one with it. I don't think there are any legal problems with that.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Depends on what is contracted in terms of Intellectual Property, permissions for use in commercial products other than TBS, etc. Legal is often more complex than we think.:noexpression:

Probably just a new static or AI model.

ED have made no secret of the fact they're slowly upgrading all the old LOMAC-era models to something newer and nicer.

The current F-16 is a really old model.

Yeah, But none of the models had Cockpit Renders Teased..

Oh come on, that was 2008, so not only before DCSW but before DCS:A-10C (standalone).

"Everything is subject to change" in this case most likely means it was scrapped completely and we will never see it, and for the sake of mental health we should stop believing anything else until there is an official announcement.

So please guys, stop bringing up that damn Viper. We should be thankful we will probably get an F/A-18C at some point during the next two years. And even that might still change if you ask me. Because "EVERYTHING".

Then I probably misunderstood this post. Might have to do with too little caffeine in the morning....

I would't mind everyone (regardless of the reason) to stop posting links to those pictures. They just cause people to hope for something that most likely will never happen.
