I know they don't usually include mods, but maybe they can make an exception.

Been away from the forums for a while do to health issues. But imagine my surprise and excitement to find that, that Great mod maker Upuaut has gone and made a Bell 47 mod. My hat is off to you sir.

 

The Bell model 47 series is the helicopter that made me fall in love with rotary flight. So to honor this iconic helicopter I've made a skin pack depicting one of the first television shows to feature this beautiful aircraft. Namely "The Whirlybirds"

 

I've already uploaded to the user files, so as soon as ED checks it, it will be in the list.

 

I made two skin colors; one based on a fan organization (though I searched I can not confirm this is the actual color. After all the show was shot in black&white), and a white skin since this is the way it looked on the tube. Hope you enjoy.

Just read all about Whirlybirds than got sucked into Gavin MacLeod being a guest star and then started reading about Gavin MacLeod as Capt Stubing from the Love Boat and on and on... Seriously though, awesome skin and will install it.

I can't get this to work with OvGME. Any tips, or will it not work like that, and I must drop into aircraft folder.

It would be a little hard to suggest tips, when you haven't described what you did to install it with OvGME. Which should work. Off hand I would say something is wrong with your folder structure you're trying to get OvGME to load.

 

 

Any other info would be helpful.

I followed the OvGME thread and have other mods that are working. So I installed this mod the exact same way and it doesn't work. I am trying to use on 2.0, not sure if this is the problem.

It works in 2.0 so that shouldn't be the trouble. Check the spelling of the folder structure you made when making this mod OvGME compatible. A capital letter or space where is shouldn't be will send the mod to the wrong place.

I just installed the Bell 47 mod this weekend, and I have to say it's a great piece of work. Flight model is very believable and the 3D model is excellent. The work of all concerned is very much appreciated. It must be very draining to produce a mod like this, but hopefully the appreciation of the community will give you the encouragement to continue your work.

The movie version has lyrics, the TV version does not. "If suicide is painless" is part of the lyrics.

Yeah, I saw the movie after seeing the TV show when I was a kid, and remember being surprised that the theme tune had lyrics. The TV show was a little bit lighter in tone than the movie, but both were great, and more importantly, made that Bell 47 (even though I didn't know what it was at the time) one of the most iconic aircraft out there.

 

 

On another note, I can't seem to get my pilot's body showing in VR, is there one do we know?

Anybody fancy building a set of floats for this beauty, they could easily be placed on the airframe using a weapons pylons setup and would cover the skids completely, so they would look right.

 

Basic model and a texture file for each, a right and left float, it needs 2 so that any lettering can be placed correctly on each side. USCG, US Navy, Police, lots used them.

I got it figured out. I did copy bin folder, thanks for checking. I had the wrong folder arrangement.

Most excellent Mod. Thank-you very much.

This little bird has dramatically improved my learning curve for flying Rotary Winged aircraft. I can actually land the Huey now without leaving a scorch mark on the ground. I plan on spending lots of time in this Bell 47 Beauty. Its not overwhelming for a Newbie and has lots of features without being too complex.

Sadly this is now broken. The textures will need work.

You must copy the bin folder again.

However, DCS will crash loading the Bell. As ai all the textures are missing.

 

We need someone to post how to fix this. It may need to have the fixed textures re applied to the model as well.

Well this is just a continuation of a let down day. I know Upuaut dropped forward progress on this but perhaps you can reach out to him for a fix. I know you guys have had communication in the past. Was so looking forward to this bird in NTTR and Normandy. And as of now, she is sadly grounded.

I'm sorry could you be more specific as to what problem you're having. It runs fine for me in 2.1, player, ai, client. Also can you tell me what problem with the textures...I don't see anything wrong.
