VampireNZ Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Also deleted the saved games folder and noticed an improvement - should def be highlighted as something to do with a new build. I can't say for absolute certain it was the sole reason for better performance, as I also completely disabled Windows Indexing at the same time - but combined it def made a difference in 2.1 NTTR. TBH DCS is running the smoothest it ever has for me now - I could even increase my PD to 1.5 and get same if not better performance as when I had it on 1.2. Interested to see what these further improvements are the devs have done lately. Vampire
EntropySG Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Its a huge gamechanger. After deleting the savedgames folder (and putting back input, so I dont have to redo the keybinds) I can crank up everything in nevada again! 1.7 OD, MSAA, AA, everything on and my fps never went below 45 flying low over vegas!! thanks ED!!! nrgized Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 The metashaders folder isn't the only folder that could cause issues. There is an fxo and another folder that contain cached items. But I wouldn't doubt that the options config might cause issues if not fresh so the simplest to tell people is to just blast the entire thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

VampireNZ Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 (edited) Ugh, the thought of having to set up all my controls again - guess they could be saved and restored? You guessed right! Just rename the folder - start DCS and it will build a new folder for you, then transfer over your binding settings/views/missions etc etc. I wonder if ED could replace the appropriate folder/files during an update and leave everyone's 'stuff' in place? Thanks, I may give that a try and see if it makes any difference at all on Normandy for me. I know when DCS is first set up it assigns some multiple assignments to things, like some of the axis settings across all controllers - does one need to go in and wipe those out of the new config it creates prior to copying those back over, or just copy and paste back over what is there? Not at my PC so can't tell you the exact file, but I just copied my old key binding file, mission folder, views folder etc back into the newly built main folder and it replaces fine. I know there is a bunch of stuff in that top folder that doesn't get built automatically by DCS. No need to do anything in DCS during the rebuild to your control bindings before placing your stuff back in there. I did reset all the main settings thou such as graphics options in the main menu. BigMillerTime Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 I have heard it so often, but just don't understand it: why do you need 45 or even 90FPS in the VR? I have both a screen and a CV1, and anything above 30 FPS appears smooth to me. I don't see any difference between a screen and VR in terms of needing twice more FPS in VR, these statements just puzzle me... That is as long as you turn this damn ASW off, with ASW it becomes unplayable once it drops below 45 FPS. Wolle, I'm with you. Usually anything above 30 - 35 results in a very playable state w/ ASW. I think the icing on the cake is shooting for at least 45fps and running ATW instead of ASW, which resulted in less artifacts when moving at high speeds and no longer seeing glitches with the HUD.

Having said that I placed 40 B-17 's in a big formation to carpet bomb an airfield, I also had 12 Spits and 4 Bf109's on the map and it stayed steady @45 fps even when the bombs dropped and that was a lot of bombs!! The same with Nevada now, solid 45 even over vegas at night with high VD. ram0506 Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) Its not the Open Alpha folder you rename, its inside of that, try renaming the metashaders folder and leave everything else as is. Mmh, shouldn`t make any difference performance wise, if I rename the whole Alpha folder or just the part with the metashaders? Important thing is, that the metashader folder will be created new on game start. And that was the case in my attempt. Edit: Ok, did a second attempt. Reused the old alpha-folder (that I renamed before) and this time renamed only the metashader folder. Now my old settings were again in the graphics settings with deferred shading disabled. I enabled the shading and the game restarted. Indeed the performance seems a bit better now. Still have to disable AA and AF and still some hickups circling over bigger cities, but overall performance is better. I now can set visibility from medium to high and set shadows from off to low. That wasn`t possible before without getting in some troubles. Of course still not the performance I`m hoping for, but improvements are hopefully on the way.;) Edited June 2, 2017 by ram0506 1 I7 6700K, Asus Z170 Pro Gaming, EVGA GTX1080Ti SC, 32GB DDR4 @ 3000, Win10 64, BenQ EW3270ZL 2560x1440, VPC WarBRD Base + TM Warthog Grip, TM Warthog Throttle, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals, Oculus Rift S
FragBum Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Well oddly enough I have had a short break and after initially finding some issues with settings maxed out after upgrade, happens a lot. ;) I came back to fly the Gazelle and Huey and even tweaking settings down to get good frame rates the immersion seems even better, I've got more tweaking to do so I'll see how that goes, guess ED also have some tweaks to do too. But seems overall better and 3d space seems better also. Didn't notice that the fans on the buildings ventilators spin ever so slowly in NTTR under DCS 2.0.x :helpsmilie: Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Cibit Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 They definitely did spin in 2.0 but it is still a wtf moment. FragBum Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 (edited) ^ I went looking but didn't see that got lost in the thought of the way cars appear and disappear kinda like subatomic particles. After that I was lost in a virtual world, I have pretty good frame rates in Rift better detail and to me improved immersion. The models seem to, in some way fly better. Well Gazelle and Huey, even took the P51 out. Shadows now seem very well behaved even if they are turquoise. :P The Dev's have done well, tally-ho must fly. :pilotfly: Edited June 3, 2017 by FragBum Typos Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. VirusAM Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 (edited) 2.1: (Much) better FPS in both NTTR and Normandy Hi guys...yesterday i received my long waited oculus rift....you are right when you say that the experience is impossible to describe...amazing. Anyway i am not satisfied with performance...my pc can easily run dcs world 1.5.6 and 2.1 at 120fps at 1080p (120hz monitor) and 60 at 3440x1440 (21:9 curved monitor)...in dcs 1.5 i have 22 fps on the ground and around 30 in the air (a10c weapon training mission) and lowering graphics option does not help much. I thought that with 2.1 i could not stay in the 3d world at all (in 2d i have much better fps in 1.5 then 2.1 if i don't use vsync) but really surprising i have stable 45 both in nevada and normandy and flying over vegas does not change anything...i am really really surprised, but probably it only means that 2.1 is much more optimized for vr. I still did not understand if the limit is the cpu or gpu is there an easy way to understand it? Wolf8312 Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 Are you sure the performance itself is terrible and not just the stated fps? I get very low fps according to the fps counter but it runs fine and must be hitting the 45 target, as its very obvious if you fall below (judder etc). Point is turn the fps counter off and judge it for yourself as I honestly dont think the fps counters in DCS/VR are very reliable for some reason. ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
