anything that doesnt have a manfest file, or modifies a module to fail the manifest check will be blocked from loading.

Basically:

-Any Mods/Modules w/o a manifest file inside of the DCS World Program Folder, Blocked, Will not Load at all when DCS Starts Up.

-Any Mods that modify a module's manifest, Integrity Check Fail, Will Block you from Using DCS World on Integrity Checked Servers.

Placing in Saved Games does not Require a Manifest File, for Full Modules or Mods to other Modules, as Saved Games Folder is not Integrity Checked.

A manifest file, is what is used to check a software's files to make sure they have not been tampered with.

A manifest file in computing is a file containing metadata for a group of accompanying files that are part of a set or coherent unit. For example, the files of a computer program may have a manifest describing the name, version number, license and the constituting files of the program.

-Without a Manifest File, DCS World will not load any Modules within the DCS World Program Folder.

-If Files do not match the information in the Manifest File, the Install Fails Integrity Check.

So basically my simple JSGME Mod to replace the db_countires.lua file in the games Scripts/Database folder should work, there is nothing to stop it.

But it doesn't see it, its weird.

That´s why mods inside root folder doesnt work but inside saved games yes.

Thanks Skate.

Try:

/Saved Games/DCS.<install>/Scripts/Database/db_countries.lua

Script files are definitely protected.

Test again inside 2.1.1 and you will see they are not working.

Only in saved games the mods are detected.

I'm telling you all that the mods folder does not have to be in the Saved Games folder. Like most mod users, we have it in the DCS World folder. I'm not saying you can't have it in the Saved Games folder, but your folder for your DCS mods does not have to be specific. As long as you know where your JSGME application is, and where your mods are, it should be OK. I haven't done it in a while though. 2 years. But from what I remember, it depends on the pathways that you set JSGME up with. However, for sake of organization it would be a good idea to have your DCS mods folder either in Saved Games, DCS World, or maybe your Desktop, for some.

I've never had my DCS damaged from mods. The only problem I have is when mods get outdated from DCS. Because the many different changes to the 51's glass files, I've had to drag and drop, delete, and also rename some files to keep my beloved Skulleader's cockpit mod functional with the DCS updates. But for damages to DCS World, none yet in my almost 3 years with this awesome simulator.

FYI, I have Win10, so maybe it's different for Mac users or other platforms? I'm not trying to be a prick, and say what all the grounds are, but I'm stating MY grounds.

If this changes with the coming of 2.5 so I can't leave my mods folder in DCS World anymore, then I will change locations and pathways.

I realize that some of the above has already been said, but I'm putting my 2 cents in.

It seems illogical for DCS to deny access to certain files by the use of JSGME or such applications, when you can simply overcome that by replacing them manually.

I wonder if you can set up 2 JSGME applications for this version of the game, one to mod within the Saved Games folder and 1 to Mod the game itself, only one way to find out ... will let you know.

If I get what you mean, you're asking if JSGME can be used for 1.5.7 mods, and another JSGME for 2.1.1 mods, yes, you can do that. At this point, I simply cannot mentally play DCS if it doesn't have my favorite texture and sound mods. I never go unmodded.

Or you could just try this if you are using DCS2.

Put your new skins and new mods into the appropriate files in the Saved Games Folder, no need for JSGME or anything else really, just do it manually, its simpler. We don't appear to have any other option for that type of change any more in DCS2, so be it.

Set up JSGME or that other thing in DCS2 in the usual way and use that to change other files that are not dependent on the Saved Games option, remembering to remove the Mod before an update, and reinsert when the update is done.

Well, I too updated finally to the latest build, and lost my mods. I am not any sort of computer programming type person, so tried my hand with the ovg deal, tried moving things, no joy. I certainly wish this was easier to do. I would rather spend my time building missions and flying things around than trying to figure out where to place my mods. No more VSN_(anything) for me, for now. Unless I stay in 1.5, where everything still seems to work. But 2.1xxx is so nice...

Sorry, no cool signature here.

Hi all, just updated and my mods stopped working, I was getting the msg in the mission load screen that I am missing mods, that I have.

I copied my entire 'aircraft' and 'tech' folders to my saved games/mods folder, still getting the message.

Is this what others are experiencing? I'm late to the update just for reasons like this, but this evening I decided to join the mess.

I fixed it by deleting the mods from Eagle Dynamics/DCS World 2 Open Alpha/mods (I'd forgot to do that) when I moved them to Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/mods and restarted my PC.

Cheers for the help

Tell me this:

Can I load up mods in my SAVED GAMES folder, and still access multiplayer sessions with integrity check? (As it would only load from the core game folder?)

Depends on the MOD. Liveries, yes.

Posted
But the english cockpit mods are still not working via saved games folders, right?

i think cockpit mod works in saved game

you just put it in liveries folder

i.e. saved game/dcs.xxx/Liveries/Cockpit_xxx(depending on the cockpit model edm file name)/english/
