I always wondered ...

 

What is the average age of flight simulation enthusiasts?

 

 

If you would take the member count of this forum per age band...

How would it look like?

 

11 - 20 : x members

21 - 30 : x members

31 - 40 : x members

41 - 50 : x members

51 - 60 : x members

61 - 70 : x members

71 - 80 : x members

81 - 90 : x members

91 - 100 ???

This would be millionth time such a poll appear, most of them gets shut down quick too if memory serves me right :D.

 

I'm a month short of 34, and majority of the posters on forum seem to be 30 and sometimes quite significantly above.

 

Still there are many 20s and even teens too, but funnitly, regardless of majority of us being 30+, it seems here on forums we all act like 12s anyway :D.

Im pretty sure the average age here, is significantly higher than the average age of gamers, that purchase games, which is in the early 30's.

Wouldnt surprise me if the average age here is closer to 40.

Indeed. I may get older but it doesn't mean that I have to grow up.

 

As for the poll/question, yes it has been done many times and, IIRC, 31-40 is the middle ground for the people that responded.

Here is some data from Youtube. The vast majority of views are from random Google or Youtube searches, the entire point is to rope in new players after all, but it should still be representative of who is here.

 

The part that worries me is male vs female ratio. That is a big problem.

The female numbers are also limited by the fact that women on the internet are subject to a significant amount of boorish behavior that probably prevents many of them from admitting their gender.

 

rehtnap and mizzy are the only, admitted, females that I can recall being seen around this forum.

I have bad experiences with polling on this forum here. I almost got a mental depression after I did once a poll on a topic that i thought made totally sense but it seemed the community was offended by it. The reactions were destructive.

 

So I didn't here and am hesitating to do a poll.

 

That being said, I am really curious what is your age :-)

Are we all veterans or are there also young people interested in piloting stuff, who take time to study a manual of 500 pages and fly ...

My father and I both fly online! He's a retired Colonel from the USAF that flew fighters in Vietnam. He's 78, I'm 46 :)
