Its a BST release, I am an ED Community Manager. This is for the Mi-8, no its not currently for any other modules, nothing has been said about other modules. If you are purchasing it today, it may very well only ever work in the Mi-8. Everything is clear, the only thing that isnt clear is how many other modules you want it to work on, the answer currently is only the Mi-8.

I have no info on other BST modules, or any other developer modules. It's an Mi-8 addon at this point. A fully function NS430 GPS, BST has decided that to module a fully functional NS430 GPS for their Mi-8 is 15.00 bucks...

SO hope that clears it up for you.

NS430, for the Mi-8 only, for 14.99US.

Well, many people have been eagerly waiting for this neat piece of equipment since it's been shown as a WIP a couple of months ago, so I think most of them are happy that it's finally here.

However, I agree with some1, it IS the most what-the-hell-release ED has done so far (BST-product or not, it's irrelevant in this context). Nobody knows how much they really charge for it - after all the extra-vague description doesn't explain the pricing policy when the thing will be made compatible with other modules and that is THE information which makes or breaks the deal for many customers here. Such an aspect should be clarified straight from the get-go (and in all previous module releases - it was).

Sure we can (and in my opinion - we should) wait to find out more about it, but still - no info on BST site, no subforum anywhere here, description on the shop site yields more questions than answers and even the Community Manager doesn't seem to know what'g going on (apart from "latest news" on who made the product, I'll give you that!). Isn't it just grand :D.

Any server is locked because clients didnt own a module in the slot list?

This GPS is a module DLC so i´m pretty sure not.

Will we be locked out of servers with this DLC?

Most likely not. As far as I can tell this is a so called client side addon, something only a certain player sees and not an entire server. So far its also not possible to enable or disable the GPS anywhere, that would be the ME, rearming menu or a whole different variant of the helo. So no, its just as any other plane module, if you dont have it, you cant use it and in this particular case you also cant see it.

Only one. And everybody knows about that.

But also is reasonable to think that ED is not going to force everybody to buy this GPS module to be able to fly in servers with the Mi-8.

Dont you think?

What I think is reasonable is not necessarily the same as what ED thinks is reasonable. So I will continue to ask until ED explicitly states what can and cannot block server access.

From the official module page.

"The NS 430 GPS navigation system is an optional add-on module for DCS World aircraft."

Key word. OPTIONAL.

Everything sold here is optional. The WW2 assets pack is optional to buy.

Ok, enough for me. Better to wait for any official word.

Oh, interesting. This had notched my radar completely.

For someone like me, that has no experience with GPS navigation and systems, its still a very interesting DLC. I just have to wait for some videos I guess, to really understand what this wizardry actually is.

And the information on the module page, says it all, or?

The NS 430 GPS navigation system is an optional add-on module for DCS World aircraft. Starting with DCS: Mi-8MTV2

Thx BST, for developing this on the side

And for the hell of it. Yes I will gladly pay 15 bucks (pizza money) for an addon, that Im sure is a very complex system. They dont develop them selfs.

Edit: P.s. Perhaps this NS430 should have its own sub-forum?

In the special menu there is an option to apply to both the Mi-8 AND the L-39.

Currently I can only see the GPS installed in the Mi-8 (that makes sense).

Enjoy that piece of information.

I am a bit confused on something. Please no salty remarks (gotten a lot off of FB and this forum today), and no, I haven't looked at the manual, AND I don't have the Mi-8, BUT..:

What does this add that the Mi-8 doesn't have already. From what I've HEARD, the Mi-8 has similar navigation equipment to the KA-50 (which I DO have), and I'm wondering what does the GPS's capabilities offer that the Mi-8s current navigation equipment doesn't? This appears to be something I overlooked, or missed.

- Moving map with current position.

- Any coordinate needed at a click of a button.

- Meter precise navigation.

- Tons of extra info for flight planification.

Legacy Mi-8 has not even close navigation equipment as the Ka-50. No INS, neither ABRISS. It only has radio navigation equipment based in radio beacons and a Doppler System. All much less precise than the GPS.

Mi-8 as standard does not have GPS, it uses Doppler.

Ka-50 as you know has GPS from a previous era however, the NS430 is, I believe, based on a modern GPS with multitasking, integrated avionics.

Someone at some point must have told me wrong information then.

Well, you can read the Mi-8 manual then and look yourself about legacy Mi-8 navigation equipment.

No INS, no GPS, No ABRISS or moving map.

Is based on ADF and radio beacons, and a simple but effective Doppler Navigation System with substantial errors if the navigation is not precise enough.

So a GPS is a navigation device that improves dramatically the Mi-8 capabilities.

What maps will this work with. Only Georgia (I fly mostly Normandy at this point). Once it is released for 2.1 will it work with Normandy also?

While the NS430 purchase page loads just fine, there's no "buy" button that I can see so I can't actually purchase the thing. What gives I wonder?

I'm based in Finland if that makes a difference. Is this release for the U.S. only at this point?

Let's hope for a GTN 750 for 2.x. :)

But seriously, the 430will be a great addition for many of the aircraft. Also need a compatible HSI or CDI.... preferably an HSI. Will that be included?

Here's GNS430, but I assume that ED would just replace the gunsight with it.

Note the Garmin CDI in the picture. HSI would be nicer.

If WAAS is the only SBAS supported in the 430 it won't do you any good in Normandy or Georgia.

Assuming that the GPS satellites are operating, it should still be good for LNAV and it would still provide guidance for ILS.
