Probably license reasons.

Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Was going to ask that too, but QuiGon is probably right...

Though to me at least it's kind of odd to think that would be the case, I'm probably being niave but I find it difficult to believe it would be hard to get licensing for a GPS... then again what do I know.

Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

I'm not saying that licensing is not correct but it seems odd to copy the interface exactly but the fact that you leave out the "G" in the name suddenly clears you of license violations...

Could be that Garmin wanted more money for the license if Belsimtek would put Garmin on it aswell apart from the NS430 module! Who knows...

also, imagin a planeCrash and the Pilot says he 'learned' using the GNS 430 from DCS... maybe Garmin wants to avoid potential lawsuits

If that can happen, that is utterly absurd.

I always wondered that to be honest. With Garmin, not fine, without the Garmin in the name, totally fine?

There could be several reasons. The most obvious is licensing issues; if you want to use Garmin's registered trademarks commercially, you need their permission. Which usually costs money. An other aspect could be possible publicity reasons. If Garmin should feel that a simulated version of their products give an unfair/inaccurate representation of the real world product, they might not be interested in allowing use of their names or proprietary IP.

They are trying to apply the FSX/P3D/XPlane paradigm to DCS, that's a bit weird and I'm not sure they'll find the same type of customers here, but oh well, let's see. The Mi-8 is a great module after all.

In a general note, and not necessarily speaking of this case, it's always left me nonplussed how much vendors were trying to make a profit of so many little things in these other sims, aircraft (OK), sceneries (very much OK too), aircraft add-ons like this GPS (err, why not), subscriptions to navigation charts (eh? for hobby simmers, really?), push-back tractors, ATCs, fuel estimation tools, ambiant sounds, good-looking clouds, weather engines, online courses on how to fly an add-on (I've seen it, I swear it exists!), and more :D They're surely creative.

That being said, the day a good developer sells a nice C152 or a Schweizer 300, I'm buying it! :)

System specs: Win7 x64 | CPU: i7-4770K | RAM: 16 GB | GPU: GTX 980 Ti 6 GB | Thrustmaster HOTAS | MFG rudder pedals | SATA3 SSD | TrackIR

Hanging out of the door of a Schweizer 300 with my Sig P210 would beat the Huey any day! And maybe even the Mi-24P. (and no, this is not one of the wishlish thread derailments that seem to pop up everywhere these days).

I was told the Garmin in the L-39 was removed because it was an older version of the NS-430 module.

I believe the release for the L-39 was in error, least for now. We will see if there will be any info on if or when it will come back.

huh intersting if BSt is adding additional features for $$, would be wondering if theyl go a similar route with other variations of thier aircraft to boost thier capabilties or such.

though at the same time this is worrisome as this is essentially going down the mini DLC/ micro transaction route.

additional features for $$

Would be more worrisome if they didn't charge for new products that must've taken lots of manhours to achieve.

But I get ya. If you're skint, you're skint. Tough...

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

I am ok if the DLC/Micro transaction is for something obviously so complex to model. Its not like they are re-texturing some characters and releasing DCS 2018.

This is of course up to BST, but my hope is that it was just too incomplete or untested for the L-39 and it will return. They know you guys want more info on using it elsewhere, so I hope we hear something soon.

For me the Mi-8 has a perfectly decent navigation suite as it is, I just wouldn't use it.
