This is normal for starter projects. Even Rift was delay its product much longer than was anounced in the beginning.

I'm looking at this as positive, better later but better.

DCS and Pimax

The longer the final version is delayed, the more I'm inclined to just wait it out for Gen 2 of the Rift.

Either way, regardless of timing, it's going to be a tough decision. A wide FOV high resolution HMD will be tough to pass on.

I'm afraid with what is announced from Oculus and even Vive they both working on cheaper VR which is in essence 200$ 2K All in One with 6DoF.

That have business logic because such device holding believe it or not 70% of VR market. This is good and bad in same time.

Good because will make VR more affordable and even more lower the price for entering in to VR world what will in the end increase VR community what in the end lead us to better titles and software support for VR and better software implementation for some VR technologies which are existing but not supported yet.

Bad for hardcore gamer's which expect much more significant step up from what they have already from Gen 1 VR.

So far Pimax 8K is promising project, it is kickstarter so such delay is normal. Just to remind you how long Oculus delayed Rift and how long we need to get CV1. There was much more skeptic to VR in general thena and most of them are today VR addict who using Rift.

I am actually happy about the delay, I was really doubting they would make their January estimate. If given the option I will decide to wait for the final product.

Yeah, I thought they were crazy given the state of the development - per their blog. I opted to receive it in April. But realistically, I imagine it'll be more like Jun-Aug time frame.

I agree.

Point is they working on product and they are finalizing V5 now. Soon will be publicly represented.

Hardware need to be completely finalized before delivery. After that few software upgrades could be done online.

If this means that they will use the funding to deliver a polished consumer product, I will wait. I will hate it tough. This unit has so much promise.

From Pimax4K experience and how it was with that Pimax4K didn't change as hardware but they continuing software upgrades till today.

You need to have in mind Pimax8K today is much more experience bigger and financially more powerful project with much more chance to succeed.

Wow. That's good news. I'm sure Wags provided them at least version 2.5 to showcase.

I was glad to hear Pimax chose to demo DCS at CES. This should give up some great information we've been looking for on performance, although the meat and potatoes numbers will have to wait until the testers get their hands on it which hopefully will be soon after the show since it will be necessary information for many before filling out the new shipping survey.

I didn't find the tested channel's review and opinions very encouraging.

I think I'll probably pass on this one and wait to see what the established manufacturers come out with this/next year (even if it's just news of what is coming). My Rift will do fine until then.

I hope thats the case! Wags has been kinda quiet since the initial post. Its a great opportunity to promote DCS at CES as well.

It would be awesome if they actually produce a proper consumer product. However, their claims about hardware requirement strike me as extremely optimistic.

The Tested review was prototype 2 and did not have IPD adjustment. Vegas will be prototype 5. We have requested that various "testers" run tests with Proto5 before a 2nd shipping survey is sent out. Pimax has agreed that "testing is the final examination."

As far as passing on this one, you have no choice. This isn't a retail product it's a Kickstarter. You can't buy one at this time. You may get a chance late this year thanks to those of us funding this development. As a Rift owner, I will not be unhappy if Oculus responds (don't see that happening this year). I hope they do because one thing is for sure -Pimax is not my last vr headset -just my next one.

Dear all,

While it's too early to know exactly what will come from it, we are in touch with Pimax regarding their 8K system and how we can best cooperate for an amazing DCS VR experience.

Thanks,

Matt

The ED Team has been pretty quiet. Are any of you going to be at CES?

Here's the latest on the Prototype Pimax 8k:

https://www.roadtovr.com/ces-2018-pimax-8k-hands-on-long-way-kinks-to-iron/

In short, has promise, but still some "areas of opportunity".

One thing I especially like about Oculus and HTC, when they develop a consumer device it is pretty much rock solid in all areas.

I think maybe Pimax has bitten off a lot with their promises, trying to make too huge a leap in such a short time. Look what HTC is doing, bringing a Vive Pro to market this year that is mainly a small resolution upgrade, no change in FOV or other advances in the display technology.
