Has anyone figured out where this is yet? The apron in the lower left of the airport and the runway with a parallel taxyway with RETs looks a bit like Tabqa airbase, but the city doesn't fit in.

yes, its aleppo. nope its not.

It doesn't look like Aleppo. The apron on the airport in the screenshot isn't part of the actual airport, and the whole terminal area (from a screenshot a few pages back) is missing from this screenshot.

It has to be Palmyra. The airport looks a bit off (it could be early WIP after all), but the layout of the city and the temple ruins in the foreground gives it away:

This extra ordinary map should be extended. Syria + Israel + Sinai peninsula = the holy grail.

I served in the Golan Heights (also enjoy very much traveling there).

Some of the world greatest battles EVER took place on this map (and south) !!! Most notably the dogfights: Israel 88 - 0 Syria.

Now I understand what did Wags mean by saying developer of Syria map has done very good job for low altitude flying.

I sure hope the performance while going low will be as nice as this map is.

The maps in DCS are very small, they should be at least 2 times bigger.

I dont think a "world map" would be the best option. If we could have a cluster of maps linked togheter it would be nice.

Imagine if we could fly from west of Turkey taking off from a carrier, then go east, then north to Georgia, Ukraine, Russia; or south to Syria, Iraq, Iran to the Persian Gulf.

We could do ferry missions for starting campaigns, or even a change in theater during the campaign.

Anyone know how close they are to pre-purchase?

And got screenshots back which I posted. To my map area question they said to keep an eye on the news. Looks like they don't want to disclose this information yet.

Wags said in the interview that their very long time goal is to get whole world technology to DCS.

I'm worried that this map may have the quality of the Normandy map.

You mean because it is made by the same dev team? DCS standards should be on a much higher level than they used to be.

That's exactly what I mean, and the Normandi map is not a distant past and what it was, it is.

How will it be, we will see.

Afghanistan will be an awesome map for helicopter missions. Deep valleys, turbulent mountain winds, hot and high altitude operating environments. It would be great if in the new maps they could implement brown out situations; even white out in mountain regions, this would add another critical dynamic to helicopter operations.
