No approach lights at airports. There is only taxiway lighting. Despite the correct landing procedure and communication with ATC.

So, for example, no ALSF1s at Nellis? All four runways should have it... haven’t tried 2.5 yet. Do the new maps have the proper signage to mark taxiways, runways, etc and lead off lines?

It's not only about airports lights, but every lights in DCS. For example for me landing light doesn't do anything, I can't see where I'm going when it's dark. I can see on external view that the light works, but it doesn't do anything... There is also a bug with that light and it goes through the floor of a cockpit and lights up all the panels unless landing gear is 100% up and closed (because then light goes off). Also, try to land on a carrier at night, it's impossible to see the lights of it unless you're very close to it.

Thank you ED for working PAPI lights on Caucasus!

But The airport lighting needs more love.

Some airports not have approach lighting at all, only taxi and rwy lighting.

Approach lighting turned on only from active direction, after contact ATC - for single player or for multiplayer host (2.5.0.14304.321 is unable to tur on RWY lights for MP clients).

We lost bidirectional runway ending lights at Batumi. (green for approach, red for taxi; I would love when this bacame standard for Caucasus map.)

No red lights at the end of Beslan's active runway. Difficult to taxi to the end, then turn back.

(The surface built in lamp has place for 4 lightbulb. IRL turning pads have lighting and PAPI lights exists from both directions)

Only 4 tower lights at Mozdok. (Now misplaced the rwy08 approach lighting.)

For the airports that don't have approach lights, is that just because the real airports don't? Many runways do not have approach nights, and for those that do there are a variety of systems. This seems easy enough to incorporate.

Now that I think of it, I can't remember noticing airport beacons in DCS.

Checked this. No rotating beacon for example at Anapa.

No runway edge lights.

Taxi lights are illuminated, but can only be seen from very short distances, like when you are below a few hundred feat when landing. Even when they can be seen they are unrealistically dim.

its now April, Still no Runway Edge Lights in OpenBeta 2.5. Night Operations are impossible without NVG. Are we going to have runway lighting ever ?

Is this being addressed ?

Thanks

Night lighting in general is being addressed. The towns have been improved, I guess the airports are on the list. As for the aircraft issues, this is down to individual modules.

The cockpit dome light on the huey works fine, but the hog cockpit flood does not.

Now there are lights, but you need to ask ATC for start engines and approach.

! BUT when you on short FINAL you got ATC clearance for landing and the light go off  only big reflectors lights are turned on.:megalol:

Just checked and can confirm there are no runway lights at any runways in Caucasus in the current 2.5.2OB. There are taxi lights, but no approach lights or runway lights.

Runway lights in Nevada are working okay.

to Nealius: Even Soganlug has RUNWAY lights in 2.5, but the default state is off - you need a ramp start aircraft/incoming aircraft to turn on more lighting

Approach and runway lights need a revision, Sochi is big enought airport to incorporate approach lights,

mozdok rwy08 approach lights is buggy since 2.5,

This was at 4-5am I believe. Taxiway lights are there, but no runway lights. And there were not even any taxiway lights until after I contacted ATC.

PS: I just flew it again just now, and there were runway lights. So it must be just flakey and buggy?

And I didn't even contact ATC.

Ramp start and departure from Vaziani. Arrival at Batumi. I had no runway lights at either. Batumi's runway lights came on as soon as my wheels touched down.

Set up a quick mission to practice landings at BESLAN on RUNWAY 10 at NIGHT.

Mission Date 1 Apr 2018 2300 Full moon

Runway lights* only became visible once I was very close to the runway (possibly on touchdown).

Mission Date 14 Apr 1018 2300 New moon

Runway lights never became visible.

Are the runway lights dependent on moonlight?

Taxiway lights were visible.

imho all ground lighting is far too dark (using Oculus Rift). Gamma = 1.8.

*I mean the white runway edge lights.

There is a light tester mission for Caucasus here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=210991 (Caucasus map/Missing approach lights)

sit in a Su-25T (or other) and use the "LA" F10 custom radio item in the communication menu,

this will activate "takeoff from parking hot" AIs in all 21 airbases,

tadamm: all runway lights will be on in single player mode

in multiplayer my latest experience in OpenBeta is: there are runway lights even around 12h in good visibility conditions, related thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=201610 ([REPORTED] Runway Lights by night works only server side)

Agree with previous poster.

(SP, using VR, very simple mission with just the player's F-18 )

After further testing, the lights do come on if I call inbound. But, they only become visible from very near, and are not nearly bright enough (imho).

My question is, why does it have to be like this? Why not just have all runway lights on all the time (at night)? Does anyone know if there's a config file somewhere that can achieve this?

I agree with Hippo, it would make things a whole lot simpler - all lights on all airports & carriers - on all the time.

But, if you have to make it complex, or make it sort of real. Lights on for all night - no ask, and on when bad weather, low ceilings all day - no ask.

I'm actually host to H24 server using "real clock time" (thanks to HAVOC COMPANY for that) and the airpot lighting it's a big problem for us. Most of the time the light is off and a lot of pilot get in trouble for that.

I really like to have a "flag" inside mission editor for the airpot option, like taxi, runway etc ..... overriding the "logic" if there is a kind of that, even if it's not working: D

When approaching the Stennis carrier on the Persian Gulf map, it seems that the Stennis’ lights can only be turned on during dusk and night. But during rainy day conditions it is too dark (at least for me) to safely land on a carrier without deck lights. It would seem to me that the possibility to turn lights on should depend more on the actual weather and sunlight conditions, and on whether you are landing on an airfield versus a carrier, than on the time of day.
