nope tried that too, tried opting in to the WMR for Steam VR beta, i will try rolling back to SteamVR stable and see what it does

yep rolling back to the SteamVR stable release (1.16.10) gives you back the motion smoothing options

bug report here:

Motion Smoothing UI for WMR :: SteamVR General Discussions (steamcommunity.com)

Ah, so it's fixable.

Not entirely sure why we opt for the Beta's anyway

I'm not sure where we are in this discussion, but it is certainly all working well for me.

In WMR, Auto and Disabled work as they always did, and Motion Vector works like 'forced' did.  So, all good here.

The options for AUTO, FORCED for motion smoothing  are no longer present in SVR. So if youi set the below:

image.png

There is nowhere (in the UI in SVR) to control it. It does still work, but it uses whatever the previous setting was.

Yes, I know that.  See my post 3 above.  All works normally in the WMR settings.

Not the case with me.

As I said in my post a few up, all these settings except per-app which we don't seem to need - work fine for me.  I've tried them all.

Yes they work, but you CAN'T control them from SVR they are no longer in the UI, so if you set "SteamVR per app setting" where do you set that?

I set use SteamVR per app in WMR for SVR anbd change per app in SVR, using your method every WMR app will use the same settings right?

That assumes you wish to use the same settings for EVERY application that uses WMR and SVR though doesn't it? And that's not the point, the point is the BETA removed the SVR settings, they need to be fixed...

but you have to set them for all games... rather than having granular control depending on the game

You don't use per app, it doesn't do anything.  And, yes, every WMR will use the same.  I really don't know what the issue is here.  You can set it to Auto, Disabled or Forced.

I don't see why you would want to. I mean surely Auto or Forced - depending on your preference - will be fine for all games.

Whilst I kind of see your point, the point is the fliexibility was available and now it's not. Alyx is one gamne where I woiuld use Auto and guarantee 90FPS, DCS I'd rather force to 45FPS

err no, the only reason i used forced at all is because it has some useful characteristics in DCS, otherwise I would like my full 90FPS 🙂

Agreed, it would be good to have that flexibility back, but all the talk about things being 'broken' (not from you) is OTT.

so it sort of depends on the last state you used; if you were for example doing performance testing .. and you had selected it to disabled, then it would look very broken all you will notice is ragged irregular frame rates ...

it s not that it is broken (though i bet even money steam did not intend to remove that part of the UI) but it will look broken

I disagree. Forced is best option as Stuart said.  Best to have a rock solid 45fps than something jumping around at 45 or 90.  If we were close to getting a solid 90, fine, but atm, I would say forced.

Fully agree with this, have been using Motion Smoothing on and forced to 45 fps for some time now.

I get very smooth performance with some pretty high graphics settings.

Yes. Broken is probably the incorrect term, but the context can be determined from reading the posts. At least there is an option to get back the missing functionality via reverting to SVR stable as SOH has pointed out. As long as the patch is good today, I'll be happy. Apart from having to endure the break dancing clouds for some while longer no doubt 🙂

Sorry Stuart, not sure what you mean.  All options (apart from per app) work fine for me switching between them.  Doesn't matter what the last state was.

I think I must be misunderstanding what issue people are having here.
