@ Mustang - I suppose only the noise41 file can be used "out of the box" for NTTR, right? Does it have any negative impact on your Caucasus mod?

I don't think it affects Caucasus in any way, only the NTTR and Persian Gulf (I don't own the Normandy map but it *might* affect it)

Mod tested and confirmed working ok with todays DCS update 3 2.5.2.18307.

 

edit: little update to package, fixed a small problem in terrainoptions41.lua that was causing some graphical anomalies on terrain surfaces on far areas of the map.

Holy smokes Mustang...Nevada is beautiful again in 4k and VR.

Got the wow factor again in VR.

No fps loss at all.

edit:in fact FPS seems super smooth now.Can get 90 in VR looking at sky again!!

The 'softness' of NTTR at altitude always bothered me, it's less prevalent in PG but I'll definitely be giving this a try.

After more extensive testing of the this terrainoptions41.lua on Caucasus, Nevada and Normandy I have to say that even though it doesn't have any impact on framerate, it does unfortunately induce noticeably more microstutters. Non-issue at mid-to-high altitudes, but quite a deal for those flying low and slow.

 

The file contains excellent tweaks, but but only if the gfx card is up to snuff for it, which my 1070 is not. Oh well, I'll get back to it after next HW upgrade :D.

Tested for compatibility with todays 2.5.2.19641 openbeta update and found no problems, it is still needed since the stripes are still visible on terrain without this mod.

The terrain mods will only pass IC if the server allows it (see circled part in image below "require pure textures = no") the 104th and Buddyspike servers for example allow the use of them, if you want others servers to follow you should contact the owners.

FYI, when I clicked on the Download button for that file, I got that pesky "Microsoft Critical Alert" that ya cant seem to get rid of. I had to restore back to a previous image to get rid of it.

Yeah it's Mediafire and it's way of doing things, think it's time I moved away from this download platform to something less intrusive (google drive)

This thread should be sticky! In fact every excellent map mod should be sticky. If there are another great mods like this, then please let me know guys! E.g. I am looking for a mod that improves the graphics of roads (I think they should be brighter).
