Bog9y Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I have mine set to 199% in the steam vr setting for DCS. PD in dcs set to 1.0. You got 199% and 6x MSAA? with a 2070 Super. Which VR headset have you got because there is no way I could run this with a 2080 super and my Reverb
zaelu Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 One odd thing with this shader fix and the one found here: The first time I load a mission DCS starts and run. But when I just restart the same mission invariably it crashes the game. Constantly. reptile92 Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 It can be controlled from _HMD.hlsl setting ENABLE_DIFFUSE_SS, default is 4x. I posted a comparison sceenshot on my site here: http://www.kegetys.fi/dcs-shaders-perf-mod-update/ (it looks even better in the headset) Is #define ENABLE_DIFFUSE_SS 8 the good syntax? I can't see anything in DCS log when activated.

If what you're after is 8x, you need to use the value 4 - #define ENABLE_DIFFUSE_SS 4 // Albedo texture supersampling. 0=off, 1=2x, 2=4x, 3=6x, 4=8x Edited April 21, 2020 by Hippo System spec: Intel i7 12700k @ stock, ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 12GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), WD Black SN 850X 2TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 Evo Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS Prev System spec (leaving here because I often reference it in my posts): Intel i9 13900KF @ stock, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24GB GDDR6X, Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C18, Samsung 980 EVO 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD (system drive), Samsung 970 EVO 1 TB NVME M.2 SSD (games drive), Cooler Master ML360 Illusion CPU Cooler, Asus XG43UQ Monitor, Oculus Quest Pro, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals

Hippo Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 With this can we disable msaa? Unfortunately - no. If only... From the OP: Another new setting is supersampling for the albedo (diffuse) textures for objects. This is a very performance-cheap way to get improved clarity especially for the cockpit labels and stuff. So instead of having to supersample the entire rendered scene to get more sharpness, it will sample the diffuse texture multiple times. With this I was able to reduce the pixel density a lot without getting a blurry cockpit, which in turn allowed me to turn on 4xMSAA and everything looks better overall with improved performance. speed-of-heat Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 so what is the recommended PD or SS with MSAA 4x and Diffuse 8? PD is an in game setting I always set it at 1, SS is set in SteamVR and is graphics card dependent mine is currently set at 108% which leads to good results for me on my hardware... i'm using MSSA 2x and Diffuse 4 at the moment and thats the problem with your question the answer is very heavily hardware dependent, so you may have to fiddle SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

Reasonable advice on the whole, but it annoys me that he doesn't seem to grasp PD and SS settings. A PD of 1.5 is NOT the same as a SS rate of 150%. A PD of 1.5 is equivalent to 1.5*1.5, i.e. 2.25 or 225% in SteamVR SS. SteamVR rate of 150% is roughly equivalent to a PD of 1.2.
