AndyE Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 B. Litening isnt certified for Carrier Ops nor The Salt Water environment. Are sure about the latter part? Harrier's seem to have no problem using the Litening when deployed to the salt water environment of the LHA's/LHD's. You can't kick *** without tanker gas
Eaglewings Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 This seems totally wrong to me, as ED said they are simulating a Navy F-18C Hornet, so it should not have the Litening pod, it's the same reason why they gave the AGM-65F to the Hornet.I gather from the mini update that the ALTFLIR targeting pod is still being worked on. If this is the case and no change along the line by ED, it means we will have option to select either the litening or the ATFLIR. So it is a win win situation for us users. Kev2go Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) well, they also gave us USMC skins from the get go.. who cares ?` if you think it's unreal on a USN Hornet, don't use it it would have been unreal in the past, however ever since the Last 2 USN squadrons ( VFA 131 and VMA 34) retired their LOT 20's and are currently transitioning ( or have already) to Super Hornets from 2017 and 2018 respectively. These Lot 20's have since been recently passed on down to the USMC squadrons. The Lot 20 Hornet in DCS has BUNO # 165407 , that specific example formerly belonging to VFA 131 which finished its last legacy Hornet deployment in 2017. Doum76 Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 Crap, we are getting pods with the Hornet now :( Gotta find a way to politely fire the midget wingwalker i hired and tied up over my left wing with a High-Definition camera to act as a pod. :(
3poch Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 (edited) It's more along the lines of, the Litening Pod Systems are coded, and it's compatible with the Hornet, so why not, Dude, that is the exact argument that a lot of community members have made basically since the Hornet was announced in 2015, and the answer was always a hard. no. It wasnt planned, but plans are subject to change, I dont see why you'd complain about MORE content. I understand plans change, I’m speculating on why they changed. And I’m a little confused, no complaint was expressed. In fact, in my direct follow up: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3743265&postcount=63 “Notice please I do not pass any negative judgement on ED, I’ve been around long enough to know how things work here. Im happy we’re getting LITENING and as far as I’m concerned we’ll get the new toys when they’re ready. I know it’s hard work, the guys making this stuff are modern wizards.” The ATFLIR and New IR System are on track, the A-10C will likely benefit greatly from this as well as the Upcoming F-16CJ That’s great if they are on track, and I’m excited for new pods and improved IR rendering. But I still think adding the LITENING to the Hornet is a plan B because we’re not getting either anytime soon. And again, since everyone is so sensitive about this, I’m not complaining, or mad, or even annoyed. Either we’ll have it all soon and I’ll be wrong (which would definitely be great), or autumn 2019 will start creeping up with both features still mia, in which case I will consider my suspicions correct. Matter of fact, that’s all. By the way, I recently (finally!) installed your updater utility and it’s fantastic. Didn’t you used to have a link to it in your signature? For any new guys unaware of it: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 Thanks! Edited January 6, 2019 by 3poch

Eaglewings Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Is there a chance to get LITENING in next OB update? Will be great...Highly in doubt of this happening. Ed wants to finish up with the Target of opportunity and prebrief modes for HARM and them begin work on integrating the litening targeting pod in the Hornet. This is according to Wags recent update in the Hornet mini update section. TGP is still weeks away in my reckoning. Eaglewings Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Wonder what´s coming on Wednesday.Difficult to tell what this Wednesday will bring. I believe they have moved the current open beta version to released version, if not this Wednesday update might be for that. There are other parallel fixes and add-ons going on beside the major one I would think. We wait and see. Hog_No32 Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 With the Litening brought to the Hornet, will we see an increased laser range ? Depends on what range you are talking about? The laser designation range of our Hornet will dramatically increase from zero to xy NM :music_whistling:
Top Jockey Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 really looking forward to any pod to be honest, dumb bombing or having to rely on other forms of lasing is a pain +1 here. Bought the Hornet on past November and I do like it a lot, but actually never droped an LGB yet. Although it is possible to use other forms of lasing, for me the fun factor isn't the same as controlling the full targeting process, via the cockpit's MDIs by the pilot. DracoLlasa Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 yea i think ED realized that not having a pod is a bit of a drag for a lot of us. I am thankful they are doing the litening pod now, hopefully in a month or two we will have something to work with. Wags was clear there it is a complex switchover, easier then doing the ATFLIR, but still not something that will happen 'right away'. falcon_120 Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Fully agree! Yep, though at least it gives you some play in MP where you have many times JTACs lasing the target, in that case that is much better than finding the target yourself, so it is a nice skill to add to your tricks.
