Low Blow Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 ED recently announced some upcoming VR improvements. Can it please shed some light on whether these will be limited simply to fps improvements/decreases in stutter or also other quality of life changes such as improved ability to detect aircraft beyond 5 miles, cockpit readability etc. I am aware that some of these things will naturally improve as headset tech develops but my question specifically relates to what ED intends to do on their end to improve the VR experience in DCS. ED Team NineLine Posted January 26, 2019 ED Team Posted January 26, 2019 Once we have an idea of what works and what doesn't, we will share a more complete list of fixes, if we share too early, and something doesn't work, parts of the community end up being less than forgiving. So once we are farther along with these improvements, we will share more about them. VR is a very important feature to us, and we are working hard to improve the quality and performance. Frag Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 We also need to remember that ED has to deal with the hardware limitation of today's VR headset. Those are still early in their life and have all kinds of limitations. But can't wait to see DCS again in 10 years from now with all the hardware improvement that will happen. It will be incredible :)

I think flight simming and racing sims are going to be where VR finds the highest adoption rates. The statement is appreciated. I have to say, at least for me it does help keep things on the side of eagerness rather than impatience with the way you guys have been making clear statements of features that are being worked on even if you can't go into the finer details until said features are near completion. So once we are farther along with these improvements, we will share more about them. I'm afraid I find communications from ED sadly lacking at times. What you're saying, in effect, is: We are attempting improvements to VR, but at the moment we don't know if they will work. We don't want to give any specific details because if some items don't work, some people will be upset. Can you not see a bit of a contradiction in your own argument? People are understandably interested in details, why not just state: We are attempting A, B, C. Nothing is guaranteed. VR is a very important feature to us, and we are working hard to improve the quality and performance. Thanks, good to know. A. The splitting of graphics engine and simulation engine B. Vulkan api full implementation. C. Ongoing optimization and also any VR optimization that can be achieved utilizing the implementation of Vulkan. At a guess.;) These are the things we know ED are working on. SharpeXB Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) improved ability to detect aircraft beyond 5 miles, cockpit readability There is nothing ED can do about the low resolution of VR headsets. Only improved technology on that front can help those things. I think flight simming and racing sims are going to be where VR finds the highest adoption rates. Certainly this type of game can be appealing in VR. The trouble is PC VR gaming beyond such things as racing and flight sims which only make up a small % of the overall market. The future of PC VR gaming is far from certain. The lack of really appealing games and apps puts the technology in a chicken and egg dilemma. While VR improvements would be great I just hope ED puts them in perspective. I’m sure many players don’t want the overall development to suffer chasing a technology that may still fail.
