What happens to the Thrustmaster F-18 stick ?

Recommended Posts

Is this project still relevant ?

No news from Thrustmaster regarding the new stick since a long time now.

Notting on their Twitter account except for gaming sticks used with Ace Combat 7...

Nor have I heard anything from DCS or Matt concerning a new HOTAS after the beta release of the F-18.

Can we still expect something in 2019 or is this project already dead ?

The stick was presented in June 2018 and since then nothing...

Quite strange...

It should normally be interesting for both Thrustmaster and DCS to commercialise this product...just like with the A-10C.

Yeah, I´m also wondering why they haven´t thrown the stick onto the market yet. AFAK Wags has the prototype in use already...

Probably waiting for the F-18 to come out of early access.

From my point of view this would be a bad decision by TM. I'm now used to my original WH stick at the Hornet already so no need to buy the Hornet stick. I would have done it when the release of early access and the stick would have been at the same time.

The throttle would be more interesting now. I just believe that TM is going to miss the right point of releasing the stick. Or they are secretly working on the throttle as well. Just my 2 cents.

The only thing I can think of for the continuing delay to announcing a release date is they are possibly working on a new gimbal.

I have a TMW set and I think that if you compare side by side the F-18 and the A10 grip the only advantage for the first one is cosmetic, the amount of buttons and switch is lower so you would be changing something that works with all the modules for something that only fit perfectly in the F-18, AV8B and in a future tornado. I will stay with my TMW, thinking the same for the throttle too.

A brand new F-18 set would be awesome and it’s probably that I would buy it knowing the disadvantage.

I’m using right now a T50 and the only drawback is the lack of a Hat switch with push button, an issue easy to overcome due to the number of buttons in the grip BUT...if I could have that specific kind of hat this grip will be the perfect grip. This is just and nothing more than MHO.

Is not my intention to bring another brand or grip to this thread, just to make my point about what happens when you have one of the best grip but this grip has less or different features than the top one grip in the market.

This would be incredibly awesome. Even though mine is still working good (after 1x of greasing it up) I again get the feeling it get´s a little sticky. I dislike the idea of frequently greasing it up (1st time went fine without breaking the cables) so a new gimbal would be something (if well done) I would buy.

It is not true...sure the real life Hornet stick has less buttons, but they stated (and showed) multiple times that the Thrustmaster Hornet Stick has the same amount of buttons of the warthog stick. They simply added buttons that are not there in real life to match the same (i think for target users), and to me it seems a wise decision.

I didn't know that, awesome.

There are some rumblings about TM making a really good stick and throttle to match up with the TPR pedals, something substantially better than the current WH. I really cant find much of anything other than wishful thinking to support that; anyone have anything to add in that regard?

I just hope they will offer multiple grips options like they the for their wheel rims. You can buy a wheel base and then choose wathever rim you like (gt, f1 etc etc).

I also don’t understand why they simply didn’t do that in the past...back in the cougar days they promised flanker and f15 grips which never showed up.

I'm also puzzled. TM has something up it's sleeve. I'd bet its going to be a metal Flight Stick rather than a plastic one - along with a bundled F/A-18 Throttle. And, I wouldn't be surprised if they are planning on introducing Hornet MFD's as well. In any event, when it hits the market (in whatever form it's offered), I'm buying.

Instead of doing a stick, why not do an air-to-air focused throttle set up based on the F-22 throttle that can be used for both twin and single engine fighters?

Given we have the F-15E, F-16, etc coming I'd prefer a functional solution than a cosmetic one.

I kind of miss my TM Cougar throttle with the radar knobs.

Lol, I commiserate with you folks but I wasn't trying to start a rumor, I was trying to learn if one I had seen popping up had any substance. It seemed to fit in well here despite the subject because of the trend of the thread. There IS something odd about a joystick being announced so long ago and not being released: You've got middle eastern outfits best known for vaporware and missing ship dates beating Thrustmaster to market. I was also kinda wondering if the thing may have been killed...

Edit... Not saying it's been killed, that's strictly random conjecture on my part as a possible reason for it not shipping yet. It would explain a lot.

I'm over the F18 stick already. Now I want an F-14 stick with an axis slider/button for the DLC system.

Oh, and matching throttles with AB detents and the correct wing sweep controls and cover :)

Virpil is going to try to release an F-14 stick this summer.

I’m completely over waiting for the F-18 stick. I just dont care anymore.

Yeah it's vaporware at this point. I don't think we'll ever see it. But at least we have a few companies stepping up. That new F-18 HOTAS certainly has my eye...

I just noticed that in the target software I downloaded a week or so ago that the F-18 stick is in there. Don't know if it's been noticed or mentioned before but its in there.

Has been mentioned on this very thread multiple times :)
