imacken Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 yep no argument using the shaders mod is a compromise, but on mid range hardware, its sort of essential to keep the 45FPS in most scenarios with "reasonable quality and smoothness" ... i would love to run without it ... but in a straight choice between running with the MOD and VR and without the MOD at TrackIR i choose VR...that said my MB and processor and memory funds are nearly complete s my view may change then :) I think that sums it up perfectly, Stuart! wilbur81 Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 (edited) Regarding Water If you back off the water graphical setting to "MEDIUM," you lose all of the white caps and cool surface features. You get better FPS (in 2.5.6) but a worse look than 2.5.5 set on high, which had no FPS penalty and all the cool surface features (which, in my opinion, already looked great!). It would be cool if the new water "MEDIUM" could be the old (2.5.5) water "HIGH," with the old whitecaps, surface features, etc. But I know that is probably easier said than done as I'm a programming ignoramus. Harlikwin Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Sure on the feedback side, but you're still forgetting like many of us, it's OpenBeta, it's not obligated to be optimized, IMO. Is stable obligated to be optimized? Just curious, because as you know OB becomes stable a month later, bugs and all. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Andrei Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 I'd say today's patch somewhat helped with freezes, however FPS is still not nearly as good as in 2.5.x. I'd say still -30% in the ballpark. Gryzor Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 With new update, the performance is the same (stuttering fest specially in caucasus using TV sensors or IR in A-10, K-50 and F-1. How is possible to have 20 or 30% performance lost and stuttering in loading terrain (causcauss specially). I don´t understand. In addition, rendering in one eye in VR continues, it distracts a lot (however, great lighting at night) I hope that stable version will recover the performance lost, at least, the same we had in 2.5.5. Now most missions are completely unplayable. Yes, clean version, deleted metashaders and fxo, top end PC specs, etc..

Ziptie Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 (edited) My performance was back to normal after today's patch / hot fix. Out MP server ran butter smooth for the entire time I was in there, which was knocking on the door of 6 hours. Server has been up for over 8 hours now and continues to perform excellent. Still the issue of clouds and objects on the edges of the peripheral VR display flickering, disappearing/reappearing but steps in the correct direction. speed-of-heat Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 looking at the frame timings, when VRFPS works, the CPU is what is killing it, which used to be frame times of 10-12ms and under 2.5.6 is 18+, with regular red spikes (e.g. 22 plus), The GPU is also hit harder than it was under 2.5.5 similar but without the red spikes SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO YOUTUBE CHANNEL: @speed-of-heat

toutenglisse Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Similar loss here. From 40-45 down to 20 or even less on instant action F-18 8v8 On Samsung Odyssey + The F-18 8v8 instant action runs near flawlessly in VR (except some occasional stutters due to heavy static clouds), unitl I activate "wake turbulences". With it activated it roughly cut in half GPU usage and performances. (see picture) The same low usage/perf phenom. also appear if several FW190A8 are rendered in field of view (engines running).
Hippo Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 FWIW I am also suffering from worse performance in the latest OB 2.5.6. For my test I flew a mission where I did a straight in landing into Anapa from the south. A very simple mission, my F-18 is the only object in it. With 2.5.5 I am able to sustain 80 fps almost throughout, in 2.5.6 as can be clearly seen from the GPU % util, around halfway through the mission ASW kicks in and I am often at 40 fps. The GPU is experiencing around a 10% increase throughout. The CPU utilisation is harder to evaluate, but also appears higher.
