I am running the G2 at an SS value of 60% at the moment and loving it. I covet an SS of 100%.

At the moment 60% and 100% super sampling are both luxuries I cannot afford at the cost of FPS.

For sure the lenses are superior and it does make the image sharper regardless of super sampling.

The colours are much better than my old G1 and the head tracking is much much better.

The settable physical IPD results in better depth of field.

I also like the comfort but I had no problem with the G1's comfort.

I feel there is more "goggle" in my view with the G2  when compared with the G1 and is probably due to the mark 1 eye ball being further from the lens.

I am a glasses wearer and used prescription VR optician lenses with my G1, for me this makes a serious difference.. G2 VR optician lenses ordered but 4 or 5 weeks away.

After I receive the VR opticians then I will look into the FOV mod.

Not sure about the headphones. I am sure they are great when your mates are around shooting the banter in the background. but the missus talking to the cat?

Not sure.

I wasn’t expecting any real improvement in image clarity or quality. It’s all the other stuff that makes the G2 superior to the G1, i.e. comfort, audio, hardware IPD, tracking, build quality and controllers.

Yeah, I'm all about clarity improvements and I didn't really see any overwhelming DCS+G2 reviews on clarity compared to G1 which is why I'm not actively jumping into the purchase queue. I'm more looking for a 3090 to improve my G1.

Love my G1 only gripe I have is the cable thickness when sitting friends inside VR.

I liked the cable thickness of the G1, It had a military feel about it. The G2 cable in comparison is almost a non feature when rolling your skull to 7 O' but hoping for a clear 6.

I wear my cable onto, over and under the left shoulder.

I opted for extended earbuds plugged into my onboard Creative sound.

I  prefer the noise isolation I get with it, and plenty of volume and adjustments available to me.

I removed the headphones from my Reverb G2.

Would full ear coverage headphones work with the G2?

God... I miss the solid thump of the Huey blades.

The whine of the kamovs electronic systems.

The Screach of the Gazelle engines.

when it comes to sounds in DCS..... I have had enough of the sound of the masses!!!!!!!

I WANT ROARING POWERFUL DEAFENING ENGINES back in my game play!!!!

I will add it to my G2 to do list. 🙂

The isolation I totally understand as a preference, but volume? I have to have the device volume at 50% - DCS components at various levels - to stop my ears being blown away! Are you sure you have the WMR volume up? Check by pressing Windows button on controller.
Even at 50%, I don’t really hear external sounds, and the freedom of not having more plastic stuck to my head/ears is, for me, one of the bonuses of the G2 and the Index when I had one.
But, as always, each to their own.

Yeah I am sure. Could be the sound perhaps can be some different from headset to headset.

Tempted to do the same. I used ear buds with my rift s as the built in sound is dire, however the off ear G2 doesn't seem quite right to me now, even if it is better quality. I think earbuds are more realistic as pilots use those under their helmets. I had the "hear like in helmet option checked" as it again adds more realism (I do turn his off for warbirds as they seem too quiet in DCS at the moment). The hear in helmet option and off ear noise doesnt seem quite right to me yet, but I have not spent much time in G2 so jury is still out.

Interesting.  I physically could not stand the sound being any louder than 50% on device with DCS volume set at 90%.  It was the same with the Index which had a similar (same?) audio set up.

I've been playing Alyx, and man, the G2 is just incredible.  I'm at 100% setting, everything on Ultra.  Just awesome!  It's practically like I'm sitting in front of my 4K TV (almost). 🙂

For DCS, I'm able to get the locked 45fps and at the 100% setting too.   But it's in Alyx that I really see the full potential of the G2.  I'm so glad I got it!!!

Yeah I had my second play through of Alyx right after getting the G2, but it was at 50% res. Planning on a third here soon and going to go with 100% res.

Yes. Which is now unfortunately awaiting an RMA as it "died" and no longer wants to connect to USB on anything...

I saw somewhere on youtube that lots of G2s are getting killed through the sequence of unplugging and replugging the computer with the power pack attached. Power pack is disconnected first and reconnected last or else it can short. I think this will kill loads of G2s if thats the case!

Interesting. Could be related. WMR now insists the device is not connected to a superspeed hub/port. Which it most certainly is. Anyway no VR for me as no stock at present...

I have my G2 USB plugged into a powered USB3 Hub with individual on/off switch for each port.

I just turn off the switch on the port when not in use and leave the headset power plugged in. Turning the USB off kills the power also, at least the power adapter is no longer warm so I assume it kills it.

Good to know. I'm never sure. It seems that paper instructions with the order to plug things in (that came on the outside of the box) was to ensure that people don't plug it into the power before attaching to the PC. Seems like that can cause shorts. Not sure exactly what the risk of that is but not great  all the same...

Is there a specific order to connect headset cables to a PC
  • Connect the 6-meter cable to the headset first before connecting to the PC or power supply.
  • Leave the 6-meter cable connected to the headset after initial installation.
  • When the headset is not in use, disconnect the power adapter from the 6-meter cable.

My assumption is that means do not have it powered on when connecting to the headset end rather than the order for plugging in to PC and power supply.

I've always unplugged the power connection when I'm not using the G2, (just to keep the annoying WMR from firing up every time I boot up, and don't want to use the headset).

agreed, you would not want to have power when connecting the 6-meter cable to the headset.  but it also sounds like you want to have power off even when you disconnect & reconnect the USB to the PC.  after you reconnect the PC USB portion, then reconnect the power.

That is annoying, but I just let my PC sleep, I never switch it off, so the WMR issue doesn't occur.
