Raised_Dead85 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 :helpsmilie:Im really low on cash, truck repaires and huge upgrade! But anyways i do have some cash reserved. Well ive been flying online with just my cougar hotas! It does everying i need but it has some exceptions like in real life you wouldnt only use your stick to do everything in cockpit. I am interested in purchasing foot pedals. Should i get the pedals? Or just save money and just use the joystick power to do the steering on taxi or flying. If i should consider getting them which should i go for the CH pedals or the Saitek ones? Kuky Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 If you fly a lot rudder peddals are worth having. I personally have my home made version that's attached to cougar. They don't do much when flying jets, unless you're on the ground but if you ever get yourself flying Oleg's IL-2 series or upcomming BoB Storm of War... you will definitely need them. Oh wait... choppers need them pretty much all the time also :D PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
IvanK Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Pedals are the way to go. I have used everything from CH, Hall modified TM elites and Saiteks. The best all round that are readily available in my opinion are the Saitek pedals.

Highwayman-Ed Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I have the Saiteks too, and they're pretty good value for money. No problems in 12 months... Ditch3r Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I have CH pedals and don't know how I ever flew without pedals. I agree that the CH pedals are a little close together, but you can't beat CH customer support! I haven't tried the Saitek pedals, but since all my bad experiences with their joysticks I'm a CH man now. https://www.youtube.com/@ditch3rgames
Shaman Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Since you have Cougar, wouldn't be better to get replica of F-16 pedals? Here they are: http://home.arcor.de/p.madel/simped/simp001.htm click there Technical Details for more.. if you dig you shall find this: http://www.dhs-electronic.de/simf16ce.htm also check these threads: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=20092&highlight=cougar+pedals http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=20092&highlight=cougar+pedals 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
VMFA117_Poko Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Nice finding Shaman. I didn't see it before. Pitty it's compatible only with Cougar.
RedTiger Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I second the Saitek suggestion. I have those and they're very comfortable and work well.

warthogmadman987 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 If you just fly, then I would get them, but I sometimes like to race, so i use my racing wheel petals for my rudders, and the work fine!
S77th-konkussion Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I find pedals indispensable, but that's just me. I use CH gear. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
VMFA-Blaze Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 How is it going RD..... I personally have Simpeds..... These are no doubt the best match for your Cougar... One thing though these might not be that good a choise for you though.. They are the most expensive and take along time for delivery... They're precision made by hand.. And its a one man operation, from a small shop in Bavaria... If you have the cash and the time though its well worth it.... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
bogusheadbox Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Saitek all the way. Good spacing, good feel and programable. Good price too !!
Raised_Dead85 Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 Very good feed back thanks guys. VMFA-Blaze well its going just fine so far just finishing my year of service. Ill look into what your suggestion about simpeds and ill also look into all of the other suggested advice from you guys. brewber19 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 CH FTW! I've tried CH and Saitek pedals. As others have mentioned, CH pedals are a little too close together for comfort after 2 hours straight flying BUT...they are much smoother and more precise than the Saitek...and I prefer precision over comfort so, Saiteks got e-bay'd and went back to CH ;) The pots are getting a little dodgy now (2+ years old now I think) so when BS comes out I might replace them with shiny new ones (or replace the pots may be). -sulan- Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 If you just fly, then I would get them, but I sometimes like to race, so i use my racing wheel petals for my rudders, and the work fine! hehe I also used racing pedals for rudders, and for IL-2 I duct taped the steering wheel on the side of my chair for elevator trim. :) Worked perfectly, I used to have a pair of CH pedals (the basic ones) and I thought the racing pedals worked just as well... (As did the CH pedals and flight yoke for racing btw ;) ).. I think ruddering with the twistgrip thingy found on many sticks works pretty well in IL-2 and lockon, but rudder pedals are much much better and more immersive! And for BS it'll definetly be a must I think.. I'm building my own rudder pedals right now, with toe brakes and all, and me brother has a usb pic-processor circuit design that can be programmed for handling sim-gear. :D I'm also planning to build a collective! I'll post some pictures some time... Anyway, pedals make alot of difference I thinks!! You should definetly get them, the Saiteks look very good (I've never tried them myself though)..
Raised_Dead85 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 So you guys are telling me that fighter pilot or bomber pilots dont use pedals that much except only taxi? |Windows 8 64bit|I7-950| |X58Mobo| |1T HDD| |18gigs PC3-16000 TC 2000mhz||Nvidia GTX 660 Ti Graphics||Cougar HOTAS-CHPedals/TIR5ProClip|
rocketeer Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Rudder is definitely a must. I have a CH one, but the spacing is bit too close, and the pedals don't have enough resistance. I believe Saitek ones are spaced wider apart, and there is a knob to adjust the resistance. These are the two affordable ones in the market. My A10C cockpit thread
S77th-konkussion Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 So you guys are telling me that fighter pilot or bomber pilots dont use pedals that much except only taxi? No-one thing they are used for is when wind is causing excessive yaw during landing. [sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=43337&d=1287169113[/sIGPIC]
leafer Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I don't know about fighter and bomber pilots, but I heard Marine pilots use pedals to work on their thighs on those long flights. So if you see a flight of Harrier yawing from side to side then you know what's up. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Raised_Dead85 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Leafer lol! THAT IS AWSOME to know though! Because i flew a four seater cessna and using the pedals to turn left and right scared the crap out of me! Instead i just used the steering wheeling looking thing. Where you pull toward you, you go up and push down go down! But i think different sized aircraft have different effect! :) |Windows 8 64bit|I7-950| |X58Mobo| |1T HDD| |18gigs PC3-16000 TC 2000mhz||Nvidia GTX 660 Ti Graphics||Cougar HOTAS-CHPedals/TIR5ProClip|
leafer Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 haha I still remember the bank that scared the crap outta me on my introductory ride on a Cherokee. I was supposed to bank and turn away from Van Nuys airport but got really scared cuz it felt like I was going to fall out. My instructor kept telling me to bank the plane more and each time I'd bank only a lil itsy bitsy more. Second ride was much braver though. heh Oh yeah. Definitely get rudder pedals. Get Simped if u can afford it - the best you can buy as far as I know. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
