Reading some various web sites and threads, there appears to be a concern about having to spend several minutes manually starting the aircraft each time. To ease some concerns:

1- If you wish to start on the ramp/FARP, you can either manually start the aircraft (as seen in videos) or press a key for an automatic start sequence. The option is yours.

2- You can start on the runway or FARP with all systems up and running.

3- You can start in the air with all systems up and running.

Hope this alleviates some concerns.

I'm sure that will relive alot of peoples minds. I will be doing a ramp start every time to keep it as real as posable.

So we can't have a Charlie's Angels 2 startup? ED damnit!! Think of the realism!!! A cold air start is mandatory!!! Reamism my ass with those 4, we need a fifth one: in the air, all systems off, and female pilots.

Ramp start is mandatory

I was impressed with ramp start procedure of some flight game.

Once you experience start procedure , you should want it.

Yea, but every once in a while a man (or woman) needs a quick after-lunch shoot'em'all, so those come in handy :)

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

But can you start in the air witout any of the systems running? :) Would be a fun challenge, start at 5000 meters with every system off :D Would it be possible to make it without ejecting? Can you even autorotate with every system off?

Oh.. FF beat me :)

I think what would happen is, since you cannot control the chopper withouth hydraulic pressure, you would overspeed the rotor before being able to enter stable flight. Or hit the ground first.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Someone around here who has Mi-24 expierience said that it was impossible to control the chopper in total hyd failure. The Ka-50 is of comparable size and weight, so i think that applies to it as well.

If you start from 5000m, no airspeed and no spinnig rotor, you would surely fall like a stone and the rotor wouldn't start to spin by it self.

And without a spinning rotor, the blades would surely hit each other or the fuselage.

But i'd say you have at least 50 seconds before hitting the ground, so you might have a very little chance to start the engines and establish controled flight.

Is negative pitch possible with helis (the non rc type)?

No.

Wow ! I think we've come up with a new way of deploying helicopters that overcomes the troublesome flying to the battlefield ! Just fill a transport plane with heli's and chuck 'm out in the required zone ! :joystick:

I wonder why they never thought of that before :megalol:

James Bond did it. :D

And

guy.

Anyway, it would be a fun little thing to try with the Ka-50.
