DCS F/A 18 HORNET worth the buy and is good simulation of the jet ?

Yes, it is by far the best multirole DCS NATO aircraft.

It is very very capable in DCS compared to everything else, and she's definitely not finished. Definitely a must have.

it is the best simulation of a Hornet I know (and I can imagine).

If you look for a Hornet simulation, your search is over.

yes it is a must buy for those who like modern jets.

I use to add a "imho" after those statements but here it is not an opinion it is a fact.

I cannot comment on how close it is to the real thing, I leave it to the pros. From a consumer pov, it does almost everything a modern jet in DCS can do -- BVR, dogfight, drops dumb/iron bombs, rockets, high-drags, clusters, optical/IR/laser guided munitions, anti-ship, anti-radiation, and what-else-did-I-miss. It can land on a carrier, oh and take off from one of course, and air refueling. And it does a pretty awesome job in every single one of them in a neat single-seater package. Of course it is not perfect but it is the best bang on the buck I would say.

If you ask me, there should have been a bundle of this with the Super Carrier.

Let’s just say the hornet has the ‘standard everything’ you could learn in a modern US fighter plus carrier ops. Pick the others for variety, like harrier for vertical takeoff, tomcat for flight characteristics, mirage for an European flavour, thunder for a pleasant surprise, viper for its bubble canopy and efficiency.

I’ve played DCS world since it’s inception and before (early KA50 and A-10C stand-alone) and I’ve never become so addicted to flying a module. I spend hours training to do landings on the Supercarrier module (a must in my opinion), dumb bombing, dog fighting, it does everything you could ever want to do in a combat sim and is competent in all its roles.

Sorry for being a bit off-topic here.

  • For STOL and some exotic favour, I would recommend the Viggen,
  • For a jet-propelled warbird with crazy amount of  missiles, I would recommend the Turkey
  • For VSTOL, I would say get a real chopter. 😄

Best and most versatile and most complete fixed wing modern module to date. So much to deep dive into with this module. Make sure you get the supercarrier as well since it adds so much more to it. I think the problem is not which one to buy and fly, its which one not to: they are all so good and flying and trying to get proficient in one detracts from another with an entirely new set of challenges.

Same story on my end, been with DCS for quite some time.

I did learn the KA-50 fairly early on at least to where I could fly some combat with it.

The Hornet is the first jet I have taken the time to learn enough to be able to fly combat with it and absolutely loving it.

I'm flying the F18 a lot these day, I would not even call myself a noob with it, I'm pre noob, can fly and shoot with it and that's about it.

But I'm torn, as a Norwegian I love the F16, but it doesn't do carrier, and carrier is awesome. And now that I have the full length winwing stick, it kinda ruins my impression as the F16 got this space ship style side placed stick. So it feels "wrong" to move that big center stick around. So I think I'll stick with the F18, and learn it proper.

Emphatically, "YES!" ED's DCS Hornet is spectacular! I completed mission 9 of Baltic D's "Raven One" campaign yesterday and was reminded of how special the Hornet is just because of Naval Ops alone. I own the Viper, the A-10C, Flaming Cliffs, and the P-51D.... they're all amazing too... and rarely touched. 🙂

For me it's the #1 jet in DCS - by far:

- Beginner friendly - but yet will take you right through to advanced. (Start off from ground, do basic BVR. Then go to more complex systems and work from carrier, and more complicated scenarios).

- Modernish avionics and systems.

- The option to perform in multiple different roles & self escort on multiplayer

- Combined with Supercarrier - enough said

- AOA performance

- Formation flying and AAR characteristics

- Is pretty much 'close to completed' - very few things remaining to be implemented

- Can be used by a less competent player, and can be well refined by someone with more skill

There are other aircraft that are capable of having their niche. (VTOL, Multicrew, speed, etc) which the hornet doesn't cover - so there's no aircraft that 'does it all' - but as for 'covers the most' - the Hornet is the first aircraft I would recommend to anyone unless they had a very specific desire - and probably the aircraft that most people I know spend more time in than any other module - even the ones that have them all.

Well worth the money by any standard. Super premium, fun to fly, and full of high-tech explosive goodness.

Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
