A regular eye sore has been the horribly dated AI aircraft textures which have remained the same since the LOMAC days. The C-17, B-1, B-52, Su-17,, S-3, Mig-23, etc all come to mind. Not advocating for a high-fidelity upgrade but their textures certainly could use an update to make them appear less out of place in DCS, especially when up closer to them.

Almost all of the old heavies (B-1B, B-52H, Tu-95, Tu-142, Tu-160, IL-38), S-3, SH-60 were all in the 2021 roadmap to receive new 3d models. So hopefully they deliver soon. As I have noticed they have been releasing more ground assets this whole year. To add to that, so far none of the listed ground assets in the 2021 roadmap have actually received new 3d models yet.

I don´t know how ED has the time to model four or five variations of SuperCarrier class but not to model a new S-3 or SH-60...

Money:P

I agree with the OP, we could use updates to those models.

Don't worry, a S-3 is in the works, since a few years by now 😄

Maybe the update is more of a serious upgrade and perhaps these AIs might come with better functionality and well excuse me, my memory, it was confirmed AIs will eventually get damage model ... so it's much more than just the textures, and that's the correct way to do it rather than something in-between quick.

SuperCarrier was meant to be as a paid module, while the AIs for the DCS World core probably won't come with a fee.

Even though, I've said I've would have directly supported these upgrade ATC/AI Functionality/AI Logisitcs/AI Graphics/CSAR efforts myself if necessary to speed it up, it's just that the majority probably wouldn't be too excited having to get paid update for upgrading DCS's what's considered core.

I think ED could learn from the mantra "don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough". As it stands, based on the white paper a few months ago the requirements they have set themselves for new AI models is so ridiculously high it is no wonder a single model seems to take a month to develop.

In my opinions they would benefit from loosening this slightly - as much as I like the quality of models, I would be much happier with half the quality but twice the volume of models released.

I'd settle for updated AI flight modeling. Though, it's weird that something as iconic as the Bear has been left untouched.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

Only problem with this is the fact that once everything is up to "half the quality" ED would now have to start-over and make brand new 3d models again to update them to a more modern standard. I can see what they are doing might be more time consuming but in a way future proofs their work. Half quality 3d models only solve the problem temporarily.

Also I notice that ED seems to like releasing new 3d models in batches so fingers crossed ED releases them all in 1 batch. Though I see they usually release about 3-4 refurbished models + 1 brand new ground unit.

If we don't get a high-fidelity upgrade, what is the point?

I was adding an AI CH-47D to one of my missions yesterday and got kinda surprised on how good/detailed it looked.

Did ED silently improve this 3D model recently, or have I just missed this before?
