This looks amazing and i hope it ends up becoming an official product with a proffessional flight model. need some bomber action in mp. also will we be able to plan navigation and fuel burn with reasonable accuracy? how about bombing accuracy as it was more area of effect irl

the lanc has enough fuel to get it to northern africa from the UK so it should be able to get anywhere and back on all of the maps in DCS, The navigator is a very busy man but yes it should be possible to calculate range fuel burn and make a flightplan with some research and maths skills, Bombing accuracy is as it would be in the aircraft, probably more precise in DCS as people arent truly in danger from flak but the searchlights make it impossible to see anything on the ground if you get caught in them anyway.null

We’re getting it for Christmas ain’t we?

According to my Google translate that bit about not wanting to rush to a deadline probably means you’re going to surprise us all and drop it, along with accompanying bomb-trolley, tractor and Hurricane escort just in time for Christmas? Oh yeah, I expect that’s what’ll happen here.

I can see it now, I’ll be creeping away with a bowl of Christmas pudding, binding four engines and all the tits n bits to get airborne instead of watching The Great Escape or The Wizard of Oz on the telly. Struggling to decide which to fly first. The Lanc, the Hurri or to set up brandy soaked tractor races around the airfield? Very much looking forward to all of it.

We’ll be needing an add-on to the Channel Map of course, to include Lincolnshire. Flares or Target Indicators so the Mossie can do it’s PFF stuff. Could all be pretty good but I’m getting ahead of myself and carried away with the chrimble spirit. Keep up the good work I say and well done. Worth taking the time to make things right and it’s looking pretty good.

Merry Christmas.

Hurricane isnt something that we are doing, it is a separate mod group but we like to fly it with the lancaster to recreate the battle of britain memorial flight display team that operates both in the skies of the UK and europe, bomb tractor and trailer will be with the lancaster though. Tractor racing makes for photo finishes with how slow they are 🙂

nullDamage model work in progress, no bullet holes in the wings at the moment but the systems are damaged underneath as you can see, who knew that big fuel tanks caused big fires?

I was having a chuckle, sort of, as I would like a Hurri in DCS so I hope the mod group keep tinkering.

Have to envy you being able to re-create BBMF flypasts. Could fly the 'Trenchard' if someone would make the Dak flyable 🤐 that's another can of worms I shouldn't open 🙂.

My neighbours uncle was a tail-gunner on Lancs. I've been lucky enough to meet veterans that flew on them as well as on other types. Every one I met was a diamond and was an absolute honour for me, some I knew better than others. Grandad was RAF. I watched the two Lancs fly together with a tail-gunner at Duxford and a couple of years earlier I had a proper earful in The White Hart from a disappointed tail-gunner after he'd made the trip to Biggin when the Lanc went US and couldn't display. He was one of six brothers that had all joined up and the only one to see the war out. Their poor mother. Another fella I knew was a Spitfire test pilot. He'd been up with Alex Henshaw who'd placed a glass of water in the cockpit, barrel rolled and he swore he hadn't spilt a drop when they levelled out. In a Lancaster, imagine that? Obviously, most of it wasn't fun flying for those lads, some of it doesn't even bear thinking about. Does no harm to give thanks and remember them in whatever way.

Like a lot of us I had family that saw service and as I get older I seem to get soppier every time I hear an old warbird fire up or fly by. Can't wait to hear the 'Merlin Orchestra' of this Lanc. I'm buzzing to see all the progress. It's obviously a labour of love and must be a blast (pardon the pun) to be messing with. Hope the AI behaves well. Not sure how I'll manage as my navigational skills are only surpassed by my mathematical ineptitude 😐. Gagging to have a go.

Oh and if there's a spare supercharger around could you pop it in a little tractor for when I get it please? Cheers.

ETA: Happy New Year, one and all.

Its funny you should mention that, We flew the 2018 RIAT display doing the trenchard + for this years december virtual airshow, should probably remaster that and post it at some point but screenshots should suffice for now, Will turbocharge, supercharge and extra charge the tractor for you 🙂

Not to push it, but we will need a racetrack for the tractor races.  Something with a long tunnel like Monaco?

Also if there is a tractor template we could do racing team skins.

I wonder how tractors handle elevation changes?

But thank you so much for the Lancaster.

“Project Tractor” 😆

Wondered if you’ll be able to use the same transmitter & receiver in this as in the Mossie?

… the Lanc, of course, not the tractor. 🙂

Already added, the same T/R1154 radio set as the mossie so will be faily simple if you already know it,null

Can almost smell the musty electricals  Not sure how the earlier pics slipped my mind.

I’ll have to pull my finger out and learn to use them properly. Grandad was a WOpAG for a time (Coastal Command) and would’ve known them inside out. To my shame, what I know about them you could write on a stamp, if you could still get one. I dropped myself into a three night rabbit-hole with those sets last week. Trying to tune in to .ogg files transmitting from Bedford trucks. Had a night under the UV lamplight tuning in to recordings from the era, didn’t seem right to drop any house through the system. Signals all worked out eventually. Of course, I couldn’t explain to the missus why I’d been up half the night.

”I was very busy, (hypnotised), trying to send a signal to myself, (go to bed), sometimes in morse through a translator, from an airfield I could’ve driven to in less than an hour in the real world and had a good nights kip. Sometimes I even flew away from the signal on purpose so I could switch into DF and watch these needles flicker. Even found the little lamp for them on the side”.

Funnily enough all this is met with a chuckle and a smirk and we go about our day but I know I’m gonna have to spend more time on those radios. I set up some (unstable) snap views so they can be fiddled with when flying but it’s a bit hair raising. I tried them on a server with someone in another Mossie who was sending me Morse no trouble at all. Apart from the fact I couldn’t decipher it . It all works though and whoever did the job on those sets did a blinder. Good to see them in this too. Will breathe more life into the Mossie as well as the Channel and Normandy map I’d have thought? All good. And we’ll have Lancs, with all that comes with them.

Hope the team have decent chairs and plenty of tea for what must be hours of clicking and tapping wire-frames getting it all built. No rush o course, some of us still have a way to go with all the dit-dahs and all that.

looking bleedin marvellous, keep buggering on.

Using 3d laser scans to improve the quality of the model and improve scaling. the scans for this particular section were abit messy but there is still enough detail to see the longerons and the square in the wing where the emergency dingy is stored. Scans with less area can be more detailed to the level where you can see panel lines and induvidual rivets but due to the nature of the scans (this one with holes was 22 million polygons), its not feasible to do with larger components such as a whole wing

Mind boggling to see what goes into some of this modding malarky. In a good way. I'm gonna need another HOTAS for those extra engines.

Watching the love going into this project is so heartwarming. The lanc was my favourite bomber as a kid, no idea why.

Same, I remember winning a huge airfix kit of one when I was about 7-8 I spent hours and hours screwing up building it 😂 but this looks really good!
