The bigger the patch the higher the dissapointment for any delays. So this patch must be really big

ED has always delivered, not always the day we have wished for, but we all have been very happy at the end. So keep on being patient… You can do it

You're wrong. DCS is free and so are the updates. Only DLC modules' (esp. EA) updates go with any obligation toward the customer.

So this is a very important question, that might leave people with existential dread.

Will the forum change name to DCS World 2.8 as soon as the beta patch is out. Or only after stable hits 2.8?

Friday patch day. Hmmm, what do you think of the chances that everyone will be calm and relaxed if some bugs appear over the weekend when they can't be fixed until Monday. Somewhere between slim and none!

Lol yeah well with the additional time they are taking seems they are taking great precaution to keep that from happening.

I remember old times some 20 year ago, when Oleg the Great, leaving the Moscow office on Friday evening, released some IL2 patch by himself and left for home. Server immediately crashed upon demand so no one got the patch, and it was before a long weekend combined with some national holiday. Comment from Ubisoft was like "well Oleg surprised us all". Awesome times.

Agreed. As much as I am looking forward to 2.8, but 20+ years of IT experience have painfully taught me that releasing anything on a Friday is a bad idea. Don't do it ED. Take your time, take the pressure out and wait until next week. Chances are, we'll all be much happier with the result

20+ years of IT experience has taught me that the Friday release ban relates to not wanting a production outage or major issue over the weekend and not having people available to fix it... That isn't the case with DCS, people can always roll back, it's a beta, get it out there when you think you're done, waiting over the weekend isn't going to achieve anything...

Well I wasn't just talking about end-users, I was also (and in fact primarily) talking about the stress they put on their dev/support team.

While we're waiting let's remember the forgotten celebration of the first birthday of the one-and-only Multicore Development Report, born on 15th October 2021! 

We have no idea what technologies 2.8 will include, but based on that report a year ago I had high hopes back then to have 3.0 including MC and Vulkan integration by now, not 2.8...

Anyway, patience is golden, so waiting for the patch.

Last word on multicore was that it's in closed testing, it it might not be that far off. Or it might. Changing the underlying design paradigm of the whole engine is hard.

True, and the last technical word on Vulkan was the development of some kind of hybrid technology to be able to use Vulkan and DirectX together with a special graphics API to test parts of the new technologies. Since then no more details came out as I remember.

I'm really curious what VR optimization will be included in 2.8. I hope this is not restricted only to the clouds...

I'm sure that after introducing 2.8 ED will (or at least should) have to make a new development report on multicore and Vulkan status as detailed as the previous one was.
